Way to screw over the community of Claremont by closing one of the oldest bike shops in the area. How on earth can you close a shop located at the end of a busy bike trail in a college town, of all places, that has been there since the 1940s? And then, purchase and open another location down in Newport? After spending THOUSANDS of my hard-earned dollars at your business, I will NEVER spend a dollar more at a JAX location! This bike shop is absolutely the worst I've ever been to. Told my son's bike would take 2 to 3 days ended up taking 2 weeks. When we got it home we noticed the back wheel was never trued one of the spokes was still loose. A week later the rear rim fell off due to them not tightening the rear bolt. Took it back to have them fix it and was treated like absolute garbage. Save your money and go somewhere else that doesn't have idiots working for them. read more

The bike took 14 days to get delivered. I was promised it "tomorrow" for the last 4 days. Turns out they lied, when they admitted that some parts just came in the last day. When I called I got short b!tchy answers with no relevant information. I finally asked for the parts so I could put it together myself. They refused. Maybe liability? Anyway, the liability was me leaving the shop with a completely unsafe bicycle. Less than 10 pounds of pressure in the tires made it wobbly on the road. The gears were 2.5 gears out of tune. Bolts were missing from the child's seats. One of the pads was missing from the child seats. The bike was low charge, and I barely made it home. The handlebars were adjusted so far forward, I'm guessing they didn't move them from the shipping position. The child feet protector is installed completely crooked. The initial salesperson didn't even know you sold this bike, and neither he, nor the Trek website was accurate about what came with the bike, which prompted me to buy about 50 dollars in parts I didn't need. No one told me how to use the Bosch display, and I had to figure it out myself on the street outside the shop. The seat wasn't leveled, it was loose, and creaked all the way home. The chain had no lubrication. The bike had greasy hand prints all over it. I'm sure there will be more as I work my way through the mess. What can you do? Well, some parts are on back order. How about the rear buckets for free? If not, how about treating your next customers better. I'm a long time Trek fan, and have bought almost $25,000 worth of them from Jax alone. Turns out the joke was on me. Jax Claremont closed their doors for good 2.5 hours after I finally got my bike. Boy, writing this sure makes me feel better. :-) read more

I took my bike to Jax's for inspection due to the Shimano Crankset recall. My crankset was deemed to probably fail, so Jax's send my crankset back to Shimano. FYI, the turn around time for Shimano processing the claim and Jax' having my bike ready was 12 days. I don't say this as a negative, more as a heads up for anyone who is effected by the recall. The folks at Jax's were very gracious, and happy to help me get back on my bike. They even corrected a slightly long chain and tightened a loose cassette. The service at Jax's was excellent, and a positive experience. read more

Who knew certain bicycles would be so hard to find; pretty popular as a result of being unable to travel. After calling several JAX locations, I found the brand and correct size bicycle for my wife. I called, spoke to an employee (Amaette), paid for the bike over the phone, and headed to Claremont. The employee I spoke to you was very professional and helpful. Upon arrival, customers have to knock on the door and then wait for permission to enter as a result of the virus. This is a result of JAX controlling the amount of customers inside the store at one time. I believe the current number is maximum of two or three. The employee (Garrett) who prepared the bike conducted a safety check, installed a water bottle holder and kick stand, and then explained some of the features. Both of the employees I interacted with did an outstanding job, and I will return for future purchases. read more

I found Jax because it was close to home and convenient, but I'm going to continue going because Amal is amazing. She is so helpful and knowledgeable. I knew nothing about my bike, had no idea what it needed, and was super afraid of being judged going into a bike store. She was supportive and encouraging in my bike journey and it has made me feel so much better. I got the flat pack and bringing my bike here for a flat repair has been so so easy. Walked into your store sometime last week as I have many times in the past looking for an actual bike accessory specifically intended as an attachment, a carry-all bag none less than a pannier, while carrying in my hand a chainring assembly as a sample of weight capacity I was in need of. Can you imagine Amal, if I spelled your name correctly, the level of dismay,hurt, disrespect I felt when I, in plain sight, you cruelly decided to step back out of sight and hide. Although I noticed these tendences in the past I decided , erroneously, to look past this conduct and foolishly continued shopping at your store. I digress, Just at that moment, your male sales person appeared. I then tried in vain to convey my needs to no avail. Obviously, totally dismissive, totally out of touch/out of tune with what I was asking for, evidenced by his ill advised solution to a specific concern in regards to the chainring I was holding in my hand, claiming a "spacer"as the solution. Without asking/knowing,assuming, the type of bottom bracket in question. Then finally, the grand finale of this horrible experience , guess I'm a glutton for punishment, I inquired one last time for the primary item I went in there for in the first place, he turns around reaching for a flimsy plastic shopping bag. Oh my goodness, you gotta be freaking kidding me!!! Needless to say,sure you'll be overjoyed to hear, I will never ever step foot in your store again.. Just sad,sad, sad, at an unprecedented time, when social tensions/kindness,caring, decency is at an all time low.With no end in sight. Just freaking sad. C'mon, you can all do better that. read more

My back tire busted so I came here to replace it. Unfortunately they didn't have it so I had to order it there. As of this post it was $41 for a schwalbe marathon tire. Took over a week to arrive. Because installation is another $15 my husband installed it instead. Rode the bike today and it felt great! read more

I purchased a bike in 2021 and I have been going for service on my bike the service has been great up until I encountered a lady who looks Middle Eastern guessing her ethnicity. They must pride themselves on their customer service, because when I went in to start my search for a new bike, everyone in the shop made sure to ask if I was being helped and the young man who helped me look and answered my questions, I think his name was Garrett, was knowledgeable and helpful, getting down bikes for me to look at and looking up bikes and extras that I want on the bike in the computer. This experience reminds me of when I was a child and lived in a small town in the Mid-West and people treated you as if you were their neighbor...because you just might be. read more

I've tried to like Jax but every time I give them another try they fail to impress. This time, I took my mountain bike in for tire sealant and when I got it back they neglected to put the caps back on. In itself, certainly not a big deal as many people don't use them at all. However, decent customer service would dictate that if the bike came in with caps it should leave with them. The problem is that they didn't even tighten down (close) the presto valves. It begs the question as to the technician's attention to detail. In this case, no harm although I don't think I'll be bringing my bike in to have them work on the brakes. Next time, I'll add the sealant myself and go to Roy's in Upland for service I'm unable to do myself. I miss Bud's Bike Shop! read more

Just got a Trek bike from here that was ordered from the warehouse. Took about a week for it to come to the store. The staff seems very knowledgeable and they even adjusted the seat and showed me how to take the wheels on/off, as well as how to use the gear shifters! They seem like a great resource and I'm sure I'll be coming back! Only downside was I felt like the first guy I was talking to kept trying to upsell me on accessories. Felt like I had to say no multiple times for things I already had. So didn't feel like I was walking away having had "an amazing" experience. read more

Was turned away for having an e-bike, yet they sell e-bikes there?? I stopped by to put slime in my tires, and was turned away by the owner who stated their shop does not work on e-bikes. I was not asking for maintenance, just wanted to buy slime for my tires, which is common for any type of bike. I've purchased two bikes and multiple accessories for all of those including my current super 73; guess this shop does not like helping their loyal customers. read more

Yesterday we rode from Fontana to Claremont along pacific trail. I noticed that after eating lunch in Claremont I had a flat tire. So I took my bike to Jax they where very nice an fixed the rear tire (cost $45. for labor plus the tube). When I asked to use the restroom the lady said NO. I said I just paid you almost $60.00 and I'm going to buy a trunk bag. She said No again. Said go next store to the Mexican restaurant. So guess what. I did Not buy the trunk bag that was $150.00 Maybe she will learn what customer service is all about. read more

I had such an amazing experience with Jax Bicycle Center due to the exemplary customer service I received from the manager Octavio (OC). He was extremely professional as well as the staff. My partner brought in her cruiser bike and it was beat up pretty badly, and they transformed her bike into nearly a new bicycle. Initially, the bike was restored with many new parts and looked for the most part new. The only thing that I was not satisfied with was the rust on the front tire. I took it back to Jax Bicycle Center and explained the issue to the manager Octavio and he replaced the front wheel free of charge due to my dissatisfaction. Due to his above and beyond customer service I will always refer people to his bike shop. Thank you so much again for making my partner happy with repairing her bike! I came here Thursday mid day to get a bike stand put on my bike. I rode my bike here and it was during the pandemic so they were only taking one person in at a time which I thought was safe. The mic stand cost $15 and the manual labor cost 15 so my total was about 30 bucks. Not bad because I did not wanna deal with having to put that on myself. They were friendly and they even checked my tires and added some air to them for me for free. read more

My husband went to Jax to look at bikes for out 10 year old. The door was locked, with a sign saying they were helping a customer. We waited about 20 minutes and decided to go to Incycle in San Dimas, where we could enter the store to look at the hikes. We will probably never go back to Jax. read more

If your an avid cyclist or even ride a bike , save yourself the frustration and drive to another bike shop like Competitive edge, Incycle or Roy's. It's sad that Claremont's local bike shop fails to staff itself with any knowledgable employee on bikes or the mechanics of one. In a pinch maybe for a tube or chain , ok? Pay the 30% mark up ... Where to begin! In the event I lose some of you before getting to the bottom of the post let me just tell you that Jack, the lead mechanic, is possibly the nicest guy on earth and will not only help sort out your issue but send you on your way with some new found cycling knowledge that will inevitably help you avoid similar issues in the future. He also completely flipped my mood after a tough morning and got me psyched to go out and complete the ride I had been planning for the last week. Kudos to Jack. So... I started my morning with a flat tire. Nail straight through the tube. .5 miles into an 85 mile ride that I woke up at 5am for and drove an hour to the start. When changing my tube I pinch flatted my spare and broke my tire lever (tires fit super tight on my rims). Some amazing people stopped to try and help but their spare tube the lent me also already had a hole in it. At this point I called an Uber to ride back to my car. Pretty sure I was driving back to west LA and calling it a day. I decided to wait it out until the nearest bike shop opened at 10am (it was 745am) so i grabbed starbucks and waited outside Stan's Bike Shop in Azuza for an hour. Turns out their Yelp hours were wrong and they are closed on Sundays. I find the next nearest bike shop open at 10am and found Jax Bicycle Center. This is when my day did a 180. Jack and his team - for all the reasons listed above - uplifted my spirits, got my rear wheel sorted out, sent me on my way with a spare tube and the knowledge of how to get this tight tire over my rim (even without a lever). Jack even gave ame a bunch of great info about my route - including the last place to refill water bottles which really came in handy during the mid-day heat. I ended up doing 85 miles and over 9k of vert with no issues. Couldn't have been a better day and i owe it all do Jax Bicycle Center. Thanks guys! read more

Been looking for a beach cruiser for awhile and everything I wanted has been sold out online and in store. Looked on Electra website that said possibly in stock and to call Jax Bicycle Center, I called no one answered, which resulted in me going to the store and that was the best thing that could have happened. You knock and wait outside , which someone responds quickly. I was met by a super pleasant and helpful employee. I had a pic of what I wanted he looked up right away on the computer then went back and checked that is for sure was in stock and it was!!! He rang me up and explained how the next day when I picked up the bike would go. I had no idea what I was doing and he was orient and helpful. The next day when I went to get the bike the woman helping me too was super helpful and happy like everyone there enjoys their job. She explained the flat tire package and made sure the bike was safety checked. Such a great experience. If you are looking to a purchase a bike I definitely would go to Jax. read more

I am a regular customer bought my bike there and have continued to have service. Went to drop my bike off for service and they refused to take my bike. I explained that I work during there limited hrs but was off today and needed my gears fixed. They said I have to have an inspection with a service tech and turned me away. I had to reload up my bike back in my car and went to Roy's in Upland. Roy's is open regular hrs and gladly took my bike for service. Went in here today for the first time after completing a bike ride in the area. I am happy to say this place provides phenomenal customer service. My friend was dropping off his bike for 30 day service after he had just purchased it. While there I was talking to the bike mechanic about my gears slipping some. I was going to drop my bike off to pay for a tuneup and he asked just to look at it first. He spent about three minutes making a few little adjustments and said here it's as good as new your cables were a little loose. Didn't charge me a dime. While my friend was talking to the mechanic about what they would do to his bike I was speaking to one of their customer service reps Jacqueline. She too was extremely polite and very helpful. She got to talking to me about clipping in and the benefits that I would have and the type of clips that I should get for the style of rider I am. I have been riding for about six months have just had a hesitation about getting clipped in. Needless to say before I left the store I purchased a new pair of shoes and clips. They promptly installed them on my bike and Jacklyn provided me with some tutelage on the best ways to clip in and out. Both her and the mechanic shared some of the experiences they had with clipping in. If you want no pressure, good knowledgeable information followed up by excellent customer service Jax's is the bike place for you. Thank you Mr. mechanic for adjusting my cable. Thank you Jacklyn for giving me more information on going clip less. They say one of the most important things is to have a little good local bike store where you can trust them. Jax's is just that place. They seem to get it. They educate their consumer and intern I will go back and support their business and shout from the roof tops how excellent they are. They have awesome bikes (such as beautiful Electras), bike accessories, and also a bike shop where they can fix your ride. The people are so so nice there, and they really care about you and definitely do not overcharge. If anything, they try to be as helpful and accommodating as possible. I have been kind of going up there every day because of various things wrong with a bike I am borrowing while I am here, but they are always super sweet. I would recommend anyone coming here to buy whatever you need. They also have biking clothing. And a free air pump outside for your tires. They are fabulous! Go there now! read more

Yesterday, I went in for an inner tube, and found exactly what I was looking for: a thorn resistant thick 20" tube, and 'rim (protective) tape' to protect my inner tube! The manager, O.C., was very helpful and was also very encouraging! Thanks, O.C.! I received excellent service, found exactly what I was looking for, and will go back again for my 'BMX' needs, which aren't always satisfied at most bicycle shops.
