I stopped for lunch one day while in the neighborhood because I'd read in an ad in the local food magazine that this was a great small local lunch spot for soup and sandwiches. The number of vegetarian lunch sandwich options on the menu was underwhelming (only 1, out of probably 10, so I went with a croissant egg sandwich with cheese and tomato. It came with a huge pile of scrambled eggs on top and a fair amount of cheese, but was served open faced, with some halved cherry tomatoes warmed slightly if at all and unseasoned. Expensive for what I got, not very flavorful, and difficult to eat the way it was served. As a vegetarian I would not opt to go here again for lunch. Note to owner: Thank you for your consideration and comment on my review. I understand and appreciate that it's a small place and everything is scratch. As stated, I specifically went for LUNCH not breakfast items. The lunch sandwich menu I referred to in my review is correct - only one of the 10+ options on the lunch sandwich option was vegetarian the day I went and the ingredients didn't appeal to me so I moved to the breakfast menu and chose the croissant. My review helps others understand this isn't a particularly vegetarian friendly place to get lunch items at this time. read more

Delicious French style croissants! Flakey, buttery, rich flavor even in a plain croissant. Owner trained at a French culinary school. Can dine in or order to go. Had a savory breakfast open egg croissant sandwich build your own. Ordered mine with Gouda, ham, arugula, avocado. The arugula was fresh with a hint of light citrus dressing. Perfectly ripe avocado. We had the most bizarre encounter and probably will not return. When we arrived the cashier was not friendly. When asked questions about the menu they were clueless. We asked if they could slice the loaf of bread we were going to purchase and she looked at us like we had 5 heads then said no. Ok wait, let me get this straight, you are a bread company and do not offer to slice the bread? So it gets better, my husband orders the jerk chicken sandwich and in the description it does not state that it has mayonnaise. We ask them to make one without and they were actually going to charge us to fix it. Then someone walked out took the plate remade it brought it back and guess what.. still mayo on it. I purchased a French baguette and found it to be overly priced and the quality was not that good. The bread did not have a good hearty crust, more chewy; and, the inside was too dense. I did not try their sandwiches do I am basing this review solely on the bread at this time. Did NOT meet my expectations for the cost at all, could have gotten a better baguette at Publix for a 1/3 of the cost. read more

I ate here for the first time after discovering this place based on other Yelpers' reviews. I had the breakfast special with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, bacon and spinach on sourdough bread. My wife ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and I had order the chicken bacon avocado but I subbed the chicken for jerk chicken, and it was WONDERFUL. I could taste all the flavor in the sandwich, and for the FIRST time my wife and I didn't need to add any side condiments to the sandwich. Beautifully made. I have passed by Jax Bread for a while now and decided to stop in. Wonderful decision. The staff was nice and friendly. Has outdoor seating and some indoor seating. The inside is clean, small and seats 15 in total. There are some chairs outside too. The food was great, we had croissants and apple pastries. I'd definitely go back to try something else as their bakery case looked delicious. My daughter devoured the chocolate croissant. The staff was lovely. This bakery has quickly become a family favorite since moving up to JAX. It started with the cinnamon brioche with cream cheese frosting enhanced by citrus zest. Then the African Sweet Bread - a beautifully crafted bread not too dense and perfect for toast or sandwiches. There is always a loaf in our freezer. Then the French sourdough... Everything we have tried has been delicious . There is a restraint when it comes to sweetness that separates them from the usual bakery fare. Staff is so nice and accommodating. Ordered ahead for Thanksgiving breakfast and guests raved over the brioches, pain au chocolat, sweet bread and chocolate bread cake. Again an independent small business bringing another delicious food viewpoint to JAX. They also serve sandwiches that based on the descriptions sound wonderful. Got the coronation chicken for a friend recuperating from surgery who loved it. Hopefully will start down that list myself soon. read more

The best sandwiches we've ever found. Great portions and such unique and wonderful flavor combinations. The pastries on display made it hard to pick just one, but we ended up getting the triple chocolate slice, and it was big enough for us to share. Our 3 year old enjoyed it as much as we did. It's amazing what you can find if you just open your eyes and mind and belly. Snuggled right in between some other businesses on Bay Meadows Road is probably one of the best bakeries on this side of I95. Fresh baked goods along with great coffee is perfect.
