We were a party of four. Started indoors and after we ordered we decided to go outside to a lovely screened in patio overlooking the lake... also the table was bigger and more comfortable. We ordered the fillet steak with mashed... excellent. Next was a Grouper po'boy sandwich that was huge and perfectly cooked Next the "make-your-own" burger, it was good, but average Finally, the Chicken Hookie Melt on a bed of sour cream. Very greasy!! Pleasantly surprised! Husband and I, visiting from Englewood, stopped here for some lunch. He ordered a burger, I the Grouper Po' boy. Sweet Caroline! My sandwich was enormous! 3 pieces of perfectly fried fish, atop a bed of lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, and a couple of thickly sliced lemon wedges-- all fresh and flavorful, adorning a lightly toasted bun that reminded me of bread fresh from the oven. The shoestring fries, though extra, were worth another couple of bucks. Perfectly fried and salted to perfection. A fabulous lunch on the outdoor covered patio overlooking a lake.... We were told to seat ourself & they forgot about us. They even cleaned tables around us & never said a word to us. After 15-20 minutes we got up & left. They inside smelled like raw sewage. Good thing we left. Wouldn't advise this place. read more

$3 for a cup of soda? Went there for a wedding. Got there early to have dinner. Went to the bar first. Ordered a couple if sodas. My husband is on chemo and can't drink. We ordered sodas. Visited Jaxons on a busy evening over a holiday evening, we were a little concerned there would not be seating! On the contrary the hostess was extremely hospitable and even moved tables around to accommodate us in a quieter area on the patio facing the water. The baybreezes were great and delivered quickly. The delivery of the various dishes were delivered efficiently and gave us just enough time for chatting and catching up. Will definitely visit again when in Lake Placid! read more

The waitress was not wearing mask nor any servers, bartenders, or busboys. The waitress came up and got in my face, less than 2 feet. I told her to back off and she complied. The blackened gator bites were delicious but the fried clam and shrimp entrees were overdone while the French fries were soggy. Disappointed. We should have ordered the rib eye or filet . My husband and I have been going to Jaxson's since we moved. Food is good. Tonight I was told that I CAN NOT order from the kids menu, (I order the same items each time I am there.) I have a digestive system problem and can not eat a big sandwich. I asked to speak to the manager and was told the same. We explanied that we would be leaving. Looking for local eats? Local ambiance? This is a decent local bar with a screened, covered outside patio that's fairly pleasant for lunch. Be warned: it IS bar food, it is very local and there appears to be smoking allowed everywhere, even on the porch. (We didn't actually see anyone smoking while we were there, just ashtrays.) Not a lot of other choices in the area that we could find while traveling through. I give high marks to my fried catfish sandwich - outstanding and very generous. Visit of Monday, August 5th. I was surprised to find that there are so few restaurants with their own water view here in the lakes area that I had to try Jaxson's on the Lake. In South Florida, next to waterways, restaurants are more common than alligators. I recommend Jaxson's first because they do have a water view (see photos) and some fairly decent food. We tried the Gator Bites, which were good but the portion was small; 5-6 ounces. The $10 Fried Fish sandwich on Cuban bread was very good, an 8-9 ounce portion of fried, flaky fish. It is a Basa fillet, which isn't, as our server stated, "Panglasius, an Atlantic fish" unless they have a hyperspace wormhole in the Atlantic that connects to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. The fish is very good, mind you, no need to stretch what it is; it's a cheap, good-tasting fish. We finished with the Deep-Fried Cheesecake, a large wedge of pie rolled in a Graham Cracker crust with strawberries. We didn't order the signature Hookie Melt sandwich but it sounds very good; Buffalo Chicken tenders smothered in melted cheeses, chopped onion, and sour cream, between bread. Beers are extremely inexpensive here, $1.25 for a 12-ounce Miller Lite. Big iced teas and waters are common here; Jaxson's uses a 24-ounce cup. They also are running specials like 2-for-$12.99 all-you-can-eat catfish, hush puppies and fries on Monday night. The atmosphere on the patio is very relaxing. There are some residential neighbors as the restaurant appears to be a converted house. The view is of the smaller Lake Henry but at least it's waterfront. Oaks with hanging moss hover nearby adding to the old Florida charm. Country music was playing the entire time we were there, which works for me. Service could be hit or miss, but since this is a locals place the servers are likely not expected to be very polished. The brunette that waited on us was very attentive and patient, answering all our questions clearly, making it easier to decide what we wanted. The other server was much sloppier. Also "Go ahead and sit anywhere you like" was what we heard at all three restaurants we visited on this two-day Heartland visit. I don't recommend that because the first moments with a new customer are important and a critical moment of engagement is lost. By escorting them to a table, you can initiate a relationship, find out where they're from, tell them your daily drink and food specials, etc. Jaxson's is a great setting and a must-stop if you're in the area. I'd like to see the local restaurants devise a more local cuisine that employs the fish from the big lakes (e.g. bass, specks, blue gill), gives more varieties on gator (e.g. Gator Po'Boy, Gator Pasta Alfredo, etc.), and has at least one of the local Henscraft Winery dessert wines on the menu. And, of course, a few more waterfront restaurants on these beautiful lakes. read more

There was not a great variety of restaurants near our hotel, but this one came recommended. Ambiance is great. It has a small town, almost back woods feel and most of the vehicles in the parking lot were trucks. We sat outside on the patio near the lake. It was dar, so we could not see the water, but we were able to enjoy the cool outdoor temperatures this time of year. First and foremost, the beer was cheap and cold! I had the chicken alfredo that came highly recommended by the waitress. It was ok, a bit too rich for my liking and the noodles were overdone. BUT this is not the place to order pasta. My date had the burger. It looked beautiful and they said it tasted amazing. Service was prompt and the wing that passed by our table smelled amazing. read more

Unexpected treasure just a short hop off us 27. Doesn't look like much when you drive into parking lot or walk into bar area, but we were seated outside in huge screened in dining area with high ceilings, lots of seating and water view. Service was prompt and our questions cheerfully answered. Crab cake appetizer was moist and flavorful. Not sure what the sauce was...maybe their take on a remoulade? Gator bites were tender and crispy. Ranch dressing overpowered the mild gator flavor. The speciality, corned beef and cabbage with red potatoes, was absolutely scrumptious!!! Cabbage wedge had been braised and cooked perfectly tender. Corned beef had just the right amount of spice and stayed moist and tender throughout the entire meal. Prices were reasonable. Hmm... where do I start..? When me and the party I was with got here all the tables were dirty. There was a pure butthole smell like a septic smell. I ordered a chicken Alfredo. When it got here it wasn't even warm it was cold. The bathrooms and the tables looked horrible. The staff were distracted all night and fooling around. If you want a bite this is not the place to go. I have been here several times over the last couple of years and was surprised to see they now serve Bud Light draft beer. This was something I could never get at Jaxsons before. As the occasional weekend warrior from Broward County, there are very few places that one can visit for food and drinks. Not only is Jaxsons a local favorite, but it is a favorite of those that come to visit Lake Placid. Service and food were pretty good. Party Dog Rick was in the house last night with his crew. Sweet potato fries were yummy. Salmon was not. I did not the way it was prepared and it was cold. The veggies that came with it were good but very heavily doused in oil. The side salad was really good though. The waitress forgot to bring out the appetizer that we ordered. Overall it was very okay. A 'bar' is definitely what this place is. A bar with food. The food is okay, like Bo David's and Dock 633. If you like the bar scene, eating inside is fine because it's dark and TV's are around. Outside is real nice, on the water and all. But a warning, guests are allowed to smoke. I love this place and stop when ever I am there. The service is fast and friendly. The food is great and the drinks are always done well. Portions are big so you will be well feed. A kind a unique little out of the way place but don't let any of that stop you. Stop in and eat! No ... One of my favorite places to have dinner (or lunch). No atmosphere, but the food is very good. My favorite is the grilled pork chop. It is well cooked and very tender. The side salad is fresh and well presented. I love their black beans and yellow rice which is seasoned to perfection. The vegetable of the day is usually very good and not just reheated out of a can. I've been going to Jaxons since the early '60s and it is always a dinner option for me. read more
