Visited a friend's new place in Newark, got hit with a sudden craving, and let Google Maps lead the way to Jay Bhavani Vadapav Since 1998. If you go strictly by the name, "Since 1998," you'd assume this local restaurant has been serving up Vadapav for decades. Spoiler alert: it hasn't. The franchise just opened its doors two months ago. Turns out, 1998 belongs strictly to the original spot back in Ahmedabad, India! Grammar and menus also have a funny way of playing tricks on you here. The description for the Vadapav boldly promises "Fried Potato Balls cooked between two buns" for $6.99, leading us to dream of 2 vadapavs in 6.99. Reality check: it's just one. When we questioned the math, the person at the register casually produced a menu with the word "two" firmly blacked out with a marker :) The Food (Where it actually counts) was so good though. Misleading menus aside, the food completely redeems everything. Everything we ordered was super tasty with decent portion sizes, I recommend all the dishes we tried: Pav Bhaji & Dabeli Exotic Vadapav Manchurian Noodles & Paneer Chilli Vibe was casual and fun, featuring witty movie star posters hyping up their menu items. The background music was a solid plus. Service was fast and efficient too. order at the counter, and they bring it right to your table. One Small Gripe though, Water is on the house, but it's served in single-use plastic bottles. A bit of a bummer! But they are new so I am sure they will figure out a way. We'll definitely be back to eat our way through the rest of the menu.

Great food and excellent service. We had ordered: Cheese vada pav - 10/10 (reminded me of my Ahmedabad days) CTC sandwich - 10/10 (same taste; you can never go wrong with CTC) Chilli garlic bhakhri pizza - 5/10 (too garlicky; the garlic chutney base wasn't that great and the bhakhri came a little burnt) Italian bhakhri pizza - 7/10 (good taste: the middle portion wasn't completely cooked) Jamun shots - 10/10 (excellent flavor; pulpy and actual jamun natural flavor) Papdi chaat - 8/10 Dahi puri - 6.5/10 Noodle puff - 7/10 A great experience overall. Will definitely come back for the vada pav and CTC!!!

We had the butter vadapav and dabeli here and it was really good, well spiced. Nostalgia of Ahmedabad really hits!

One label written (fruit) and there was only one fruit orange sliced up. Many items looked dry and dark colored. As a home cook expert I know when you prepare a dish it gives fresh look but the non veg items didn't look or tasted fresh. Tandoori chicken dish was empty. Few other dishes tray were also empty. They serve lunch buffet till 3 pm and by 2 pm many trays were empty or very little food. Overall no taste at all. I don't recommend this place and I definitely will not go back again.

Add in the home repairs, the endless chores, and the nonstop kid schedule, and by the end of it all, I was running on fumes. Sometimes, a person just needs a small break from the daily grind. A little reward. A moment to say, "You know what, I deserve this." And on this particular day, that reward came in the form of one very specific craving: a deeply aromatic, mouthwatering, spice-loaded plate of biryani. I had been to Biryani Junction before, though it had been many months. What pulled me back was not just hunger. It was memory. Specifically, the memory of that rich aroma that stays with you long after the meal is over. This time, I ordered the Chicken Ghee Roast Biryani. I originally butchered the name in my head and called it something else, so my apologies to the menu and to the biryani gods. But now that we have the official name right, let me say this properly. This dish was excellent. My immediate reaction? Mouthwatering, intensely aromatic, and stomach-growling good. Honestly, just typing this review is making me hungry all over again, which is unfortunate because I am supposedly on a diet. We do not need to discuss how that is going. The ghee roast chicken was wonderfully fragrant. The moment I got home, I opened that takeout container faster than I open a can of soda. The aroma rushed out and filled the house so quickly I am fairly certain it woke my lazy dog from his sunbathing session in the corner. And the rice. The rice deserved its own round of applause. Light, fluffy, and beautifully coated with flavor. The kind of fluffy that makes you want to pause for a second and just appreciate what is happening. Then came the first spoonful, and that was pretty much the end of self-control. Once it hit the taste buds, it was game over. Spoon after spoon, the dish just kept pulling me back in. Now, a friendly warning for anyone who and spice are not on speaking terms: this biryani has real heat. Not playful heat. Not a gentle little tap on the shoulder. This one bites back, and it bites back with confidence. I grew up in Southeast Asia, so my palate has been trained on spice from a very young age. You could say my taste buds were raised in a reasonably spicy neighborhood. Even then, this one still had a solid kick. So no, this may not be for everyone, and that is perfectly okay. That is actually part of what makes places like this interesting. It is always a bit of a balancing act for ethnic food businesses. Do they stay true to the original flavor profile, including the spice and intensity, or do they tone it down to appeal to a wider crowd? Personally, I appreciate that Biryani Junction leans into authenticity. I would much rather experience the dish as it is meant to be, even if that same authenticity comes back later in the day to remind me who is really in charge. So yes, if you are feeling adventurous, I say go for it. You only live once, and sometimes the spice only attacks once too. If your taste buds can handle a little drama, this is absolutely worth a visit. Thank you, Biryani Junction. I truly appreciate the aroma, the flavor, and the originality.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great veg-friendly Indian eats…read more We were meeting up with a friend for dinner and she suggested this place. Most items were vegetarian, with a few vegan options so it was perfect for us. The ambiance was clean, updated, and lively, with friendly servers. We ordered to share: - Pakoda set with tea (one of the monthly specials, a nice assortment of fried goodies with choice of soda or tea--I got the hot chai) - Kadhai paneer tikka masala (had bell peppers and onions) - saag paneer (a must-order for us) - Rajmah (kidney beans curry) - garlic naan (came to the table piping hot and fresh, so good) - roti (had a nice chew) Everything was delicious, and just enough off the beaten path (for us) to make it interesting. Great food, nice ambiance and service, with reasonable prices--it's a winner in my book!

I ordered my usual favorites along with their April special, Dhaba Style Paneer Gravy paired with Rosemary Garlic Naan. The paneer dish was rich and flavorful, but the real standout was the Rosemary Garlic Naan. It was absolutely incredible perfectly aromatic, soft with just the right crisp, and it elevated every bite of the meal. Honestly, I'd come back just for that naan alone. Service was equally impressive. Jatinder went above and beyond consistently checking on our table, offering water and refills without us even having to ask. That level of attentiveness really made the experience feel welcoming and effortless. Overall, a fantastic visit. Great food, excellent service, and that Rosemary Garlic Naan is a must-try. Highly recommend!

Nowhere on the flyer does it specify weekday only. When you go to redeem the offer of course they make up the rules as they go. They cannot explain why the flyer does not mention anything about weekdays only. Its a small thing but it is super annoying and its shady. Also I have gone on a weekday (the day they sent the message). When I got to the counter the guy said that promotion is not available when I told him the message came a few hours earlier. Then he looked on his phone (maybe he did not believe what he saw on my phone) then refunded me the extra dollar he had charged me and gave me the gulab jamuns. When I told him its not ok for them to overcharge and not honor their posted specials he said, "I can't just give it to everyone who orders." Can someone explain to them how a special works and what the meaning of the word fraud is? The daily WhatsApp message also sends you the menu for the day. But don't believe it because every time I have tried to go by their morning menu they say at least 1 of the items on the menu was never made that day. Why put an item on the daily menu if you are not making it. And if it was an error (EVERY TIME) then send a message to clarify. The picture for the menu is different every week so they are able to edit it. The food in the precooked stuff is ok if you are starving. It is very salty (sometimes to the point of inducing nausea) and they pour chilli into the food so it is almost dangerous. I am used to spicy food but this is ridculous. There have been multiple times when I had to throw the food away when I got home because it was inedible. Their Chaat items are a little better because they make it to order when you order. I can't really recommend this place.

During the planning process, we clearly communicated our headcount and were assured that enough food would be provided to comfortably serve everyone , ensuring there would be no shortages. Unfortunately, the reality was very different. Several dishes ran short, and one of the appetizers, the chili paneer, was of extremely poor quality and was difficult to chew. Many guests commented on the condition of the food. What was even more disappointing was how the situation was handled. When my husband called to request additional food because the portions provided were significantly less than what had been promised, one of the owners unexpectedly arrived at our private event without prior notice. He proceeded to count attendees to verify our guest count, which was both inappropriate and disruptive. We felt this was an unacceptable intrusion into a private event. To make matters worse, extra appetizers that had been ordered were removed rather than replenished, and servers were reportedly instructed not to refill trays. During the event, we were also pressured to make immediate payment and were told that lunch service would not continue unless payment was made on the spot. This created unnecessary stress and embarrassment during what should have been a special occasion. And while carrying empty dishes with him on his way back, he hided the left over appetizers underneath them and took it back to the restaurant. Overall, the food quality, portion management, professionalism, and customer service fell far below expectations. Based on our experience, I would not recommend their catering for any private events. My above review was posted on 06/16. FYI, Earlier this evening (06/17), his management and he personally made phone calls begging us to delete it as this could tarnish their reputation to earn more business.
