My dentist of several years sent me to Jay Platt for the extraction of two teeth. The first thing Jay Platt wanted to know is if I was planning on getting implants from him, and I said no, my family dentist would be putting in implants. He numbed me and came back about 10 minutes later. From many years experience with dentists, I know when I not numb, so when he started yanking on my tooth, I immediately felt pain and raised my hand. I told him I felt pain, so he gave me more novacaine, but instead of waiting 10 minutes like before, this guy started yanking on the tooth right away! Again, I felt pain, raised my hand and said, "I can still feel that." He was behind me, and I could feel and hear an abrupt move that he made, and then I saw the plastic glasses he was wearing FLYING THROUGH THE AIR AND LANDING ON THE COUNTER ACROSS THE ROOM, followed by him saying, "I'm going to have to come back then!" in an obviously irritated manner. I would NEVER go back to this guy again. He's RUDE!!! read more

Dr. Platt pulled a tooth and put an implant in after it healed. The office staff is wonderful, following up to see how I was doing after each procedure. The work done on my tooth by Dr. Platt was very good and I didn't feel any pain. read more

I had four failing teeth removed and implants done by Dr. Platt. He and his well-trained office staff were professional, helpful and supportive throughout each step of the process. Both my children had wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Platt and my son also had an implant, so I'm very familiar with Dr. Platt's experience and expertise. I would add that I'd struggled with the failing teeth for quite a while in hopes of avoiding the implant process and now only wish I'd done this sooner. Dr. Platt removed a tooth and in the process chipped another tooth. He did nothing to fix the chipped tooth and didn't show any care or concern. My chin was left with a giant bruise that lasted for a few weeks. Dr. Platt did a good job on my kids' wisdom teeth removal years ago, but this most recent surgery was a disappointment. read more

Before writing this, I took the time to look over the other reviews and, if there is a common thread that runs through those that describe a less than favorable experience, it is fear. Fear is a legitimate emotion but, if it impedes your ability to get along in life, I think it might call for a serious intervention. Some people are not able to drink responsibly. Others cannot control their anger. Still others do not have the capacity to love themselves. These are pathologies, conditions that need to be acknowledged--and treated--by professionals. Dr. Platt is an oral surgeon, not a psychologist. And my own experience--a tooth extraction that occurred just last week--could not have been more different than the ones described by the sorrowfully plaintive bleating of these gloomily outspoken naysayers. From the moment I walked into the office until, approximately 40 minutes later, when I walked to my car, I had an exceptional, if not ecstatically transformative, experience. (And I was never expecting the latter.) The reception staff were all smiles and asked how I was feeling. They asked about the weather and we made small talk about events of the day. I made a cup of tea. I sat down in the comfortable waiting room. I felt completely at home, aside from smelling the faint, antiseptic odor of isopropyl alcohol that was more reassuring than anything else. I was called out of the waiting room and directed into the dental chair five minutes before my appointment was scheduled to begin. The dental assistant was wonderfully engaging and sympathetic, fully explaining the procedure that was about to begin and helpfully answering my questions about the cadaver bone mixture. (Apparently, many patients are squeamish about this as well. However, I was very curious and she was very helpful and very well-informed on the topic.) She prepped me for the "numbing" procedure with a strawberry-flavored lidocaine stick and a few minutes later Dr. Platt walked in, pleasantly greeted me, and gave me two injections of whatever it is that REALLY makes you numb, warning me helpfully that the needle may, momentarily, sting the roof of my mouth, which it did not. There was more friendly and engaging conversation with the dental assistant and shortly, Dr. Platt arrived to get down to business, which he did with an earnest professionalism that I fully expected and which immediately reassured me. No, Dr. Platt was not there to discuss the weather, politics, Kim Kardashian or my new Florsheim shoes with me. He was there to perform the exodontia of my first molar from the maxillary arch, safely and efficiently. What the writers of negative reviews in this column more than likely cannot appreciate is the fact that Dr. Platt, like many other dental and medical professionals like him, are the sole earners of the salaries of everyone else who works in that office. This is a daunting responsibility. Without Dr. Platt's work ethic, there would be fewer folks in that office who earn far less. Could any one of these shrill complainers ever do the same? I think not. Their tender feelings, no doubt, would melt under such relentless pressure. Back in the dental chair, we were finally joined by a second dental assistant and Dr. Platt removed my tooth so quickly, efficiently and painlessly that I was in the parking lot headed to my car before it struck me that the whole operation was over--in less than an hour! Look, I am human and, truth be told, I was quietly fearful about the operation myself. Aside from wisdom tooth removal, when I was put completely under, this was my first tooth extraction under only local anesthesia. But the sincere reassurances of the staff and the professionalism of Dr. Platt allayed any fears I may have had. My daughter is scheduled for her wisdom tooth extraction next month, and my implant date is set for the summer, both with Dr. Platt. In summary, I can safely say, without hesitation or reservation, that Dr. Platt and his staff are friendly, courteous, professional and efficient, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need of excellent dental surgical assistance. read more

I had the most miserable experience at this dental practice. Dr. Platt is the most obnoxiously arrogant uncaring little man. He and his staff treated me in the most unprofessional manner. There were only two women on his staff that were nice to me Monette and Linda. The others were rude bullies. I had an extraction and dental implant placed done separately. Dr. Platt was very rough with both procedures. I experienced pain for weeks afterwards even though these were uncomplicated procedures. I had extractions and implants at other dental practices and NEVER experienced this much pain even though they were much more complicated. His office never called to see how I was doing afterwards. When I came back for follow up, I asked him about the lingering pain and never got an explanation. He just dismisses you. I only went to Dr. Platt since my dentist recommended him. I told my dentist afterwards about my experience with the practice. He has apologized several times and his staff was horrified to hear about it. I wish I never went there. read more

i went here last year to get an exposure surgery done and Dr. Platt and his staff were amazing. Every time i came in the ladies in the front office greeted me with a smile! i was a little nervous about getting my IV but Dr. Platt and the nurses made me feel comfortable and before i knew it i was waking up with my mouth feeling super weird. Our son recently had his wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Platt. This at least the fifth procedure someone in our family has had done at this practice, so my opinion is based on lots of experience. We could not be happier with the quality of care and the treatment we receive in this office. Everyone is professional, but also pleasant. As my son was recovering from the anesthesia after his procedure the assistant was attentive and patient. The tone in a medical office is set at the top, and the staff follows suit. I went to Dr. Platt for a consultation regarding my jaw. I never went to a doctor who had less personality that Dr. Platt. Let me start from the beginning. After waiting for about 30 min, I see him walk in the room so I smile at him. Dr. Platt's personality is so dry he couldn't even return my smile, or even ask how I am. He asked what my symptoms were but I honestly felt like he tuned me out. His time with me was a rushed 10 minutes. When he examined my mouth I mentioned to him that I gag easily but he never acknowledged my concern. He just put his gloves on and examined me. It made me nervous that he didn't explain to me what he was going to do. I don't think he wanted to take the time. It would have been nice if he acknowledged my concern about gagging or took a second to explain how he was going to check my jaw. But he didn't. I also felt like he was rough in examining me as well. He mentioned the phrase "unload the jaw" I asked him to explain to me what it meant. He seemed irritated that I asked and briefly explained it to me, but then interrupts and says "I could spend an hour explaining it to you". Never ever have I had a doctor treat me with such little respect. Honestly, my veternarian shows my dogs more concern, respect, and warmth than Dr. Platt did towards me. I never had a doctor make me cry before but he did, he made me feel that bad. I would look around for another oral surgeon who can at least do the basics: Be friendly, attentive, and explain what they are going to do. I don't think that is asking to much. Although let me end on a positive note, he has a really nice staff working for him. Too bad their personalities haven't rubbed off on him. read more

Honestly I'm in shock that this office has a 5 star rating. I was turned away because I thought my appointment was 2:30, but I made a mistake and it was actually 2:00. I arrived at 2:15...15 min early (according to my mistaken 2:30 appointment) to fill out paper work and after 5 minutes of filling out the paper work a staff person told me I was late and had to reschedule. The staff was cold and uncaring about my infected tooth that I was so looking forward to getting out. She said I could reschedule for 1 week later...no thanks...my tooth was killing me! and was unwilling to do anything. I'm still a bit shocked that she sent me packing over 15 minutes. I called their competitor who was happy to fit me in. I cant comment on the quality of work they do, but its obvious the front desk staff could care less! Part of running a quality business is understanding when a patient makes a small mistake that they are sent packing! I had more work that needed to be done, but they will lose that too. read more

I'm shocked Dr Jay has a bad review. I have had dental anxiety my entire life...to the point to where I have had 5 broken teeth and too scared to do anything about it. It got to the point where i couldn't eat or sleep and decided i just had to suck it up. I called highland dental clinic as they were recommended by just about everyone I asked. they advised me to call Dr Jay Platt for a consultation. The ladies made me feel comfortable, and after I explained my pain and dental anxiety, they scheduled an appointment right away. I brought in the wrong kind of x-rays, but because I attempted they didn't even charge me for new ones! My appointment wasn't even a week later. They opened at 7 am that day just to get me in. I got really anxious and even started to cry; they were so nice calming me down and comforting me immediately. They put the IV in and before i knew it i was done. They even called a few hours later to check up on me! how nice was that? I will be going back if i need any future work. Professional, Courteous, and made me feel at ease. side note: I had no insurance and they charged me $700 less than other surgeons I had called. read more

Having an extraction and an implant is certainly not the easiest thing in the world, but I found Dr. Platt and his staff to be very competent in doing everything that needed to be done. It is one of the most hi-tech offices I have ever visited, with the staff using the latest in equipment to complete these procedures. If you want someone to have a chat with you with warm fuzzies, this is not the place. They are running a business. But if you want competent service I highly recommend Dr. Platt and his staff.
