I discovered Jay and his fantastic work on the internet while googling destination weddings. I thought to myself, I wonder if anyone has ever been married in Antelope Canyon? I googled it and Jay's photos came up and I was immediately blown away. I thought, this is really cool BUT certainly there is no way I can afford to do something like this. I sent Jay an email asking for prices to different locations, expecting to not here back and if he reply, that it would be way out of my price range. To my surprise, Jay resounded back within a few hours. Even more surprising, it was right on the edge of my budget! I thought, Wow...what a great surprise this will be for my fiancé, she is going to love this! I wasted no time. I locked in the dates and location with Jay by putting down the deposit and then surprised my fiancé with the plan. To put it mildly, she was blown away when I told her, but she really didn't have an idea how cool it was until I showed her Jay's pics and explained our plans to fly into Arizona and pretend to be models. She cried. For the next few months it's all we talked about. (Honestly, we took the pics in late August and it's now late February and we still talk about it. It's that cool.) From the moment I told her, we both were extremely excited but also very nervous since neither of us are models or have any experience modeling. We are just your average couple. We wondered, will we look good? Will we look bad? All things that crossed our minds and more! Despite those concerns, we knew we wanted pictures of us in a beautiful but iconic location that would capture our special moment...our recent engagement! Fast forward to August 27, 2018, we flew into Phoenix, Arizona, where we rented our car then drove to Page, Arizona. We rented the dresses for my fiancé from Jay/Annie as we loved their options and I just rented my tux in Austin, Texas and traveled with it to Arizona. No issues! We stayed in a hotel next to where Jay and Annie were staying. We met up with them the next day and enjoyed talking to them about traveling and photography. Jay told us the plan for the photo shoot on the next day and after some conversation, we left to go enjoy the rest of our day and prepare for the shoot. QuickTip: Get lots of sleep! You will be shooting all day til dark. It's fun and worth it! The morning of the shoot went great, Annie did my fiancé's hair and make up, which was very nice and helpful! This is included. Annie is wonderful. Once ready, we hopped into their rental car and headed over to the tour agency. We joined the pre paid tour for Antelope Canyon, (you pay in advance through Jay) once we got to the location, we just followed Jay and Annie's instructions on what to do and when to do it. Pretty easy! Jay is very experienced at the locations we shot at and is very quick and methodical, as is Annie who will work with the dress and lighting as well as touch up the hair and makeup. I was amazed how good Jay is with his cameras and his ability to get you into the right poses for great images. Just trust him! During the shoot, we went to three locations, one of which I wasn't quite sure of...it was very windy, her hair and dress were blowing everywhere and I remember we both thought, this location is a complete bust and these photos are not going to be good. I told myself, over and over...."just trust Jay, certainly he knows what he's doing". But honestly, I was just expecting to choose all the photos from the two other locations. lol Wrong! When we got the first images back for the first review, I was blown away by how good the images at the 3rd location came out! Absolutely stunned! While the first two locations obviously had the beauty of Antelope Canyon and the beauty from Horseshoe Bend, the third location didn't have any of the iconic back drops, the scenery was still beautiful but it focused more on us and our chemistry. Which at the time, I didn't get. After seeing the photos, I got it and now these photos are some of my favorite. Like I said, trust Jay. It was awesome to have a mixture of posed images but also impromptu images that show us laughing and our personalities. Thank you Jay...you were right! You and Annie are a great team and are both great at what you do. For those considering Pre-wedding photos, go for it! Choose Jay Studios. You won't regret it! Jay is a young, talented, and very professional photographer! My husband and I did our pre-wedding photo session through Jay's Studio, and it was such a memorable experience. During the time when we were planning for our wedding, we were specifically looking for photography studio for pre-wedding photo shoot that provides full service not only for the photographic session itself, but also include formal outfits, hairstyling, and make-ups. We are from Sacramento, and so we were looking around bay area for photographers. We found some from bay area that provide full service, but the reviews online weren't good at all and when I checked out their work from their website, it did not give me that "wow" feeling. And then I expanded my search area to Southern California, and came across a website that has great feedback about Jay's Studio, so I looked into Jay's website to look for his work. From what he posted, his work were very stunning and impressive. He has this unique taste in his work that catches my eyes. I shared my findings with my husband and he made a "wow" comment. So we decided to contact Jay and asked for the price quote. The price was very reasonable (in fact, the price was either cheaper than or equivalent to most American photographers who do not provide full service like Jay's Studio does). We then scheduled the time with Jay's Studio and decided to drive down south few days for our photo shooting session. When we arrived to the studio, his staff greeted us and sat us down so Jay could come meet with us and discuss what we want for our pre-wedding photo shooting. The photo shooting package included 1 indoor and 1 outdoor location. Normally people would do the indoor one inside of the studio, but I want something more than that. Jay suggested that we can pick another location as indoor photo shooting portion, such as inside of the hotel. We then thought of Langham Hotel at Pasadena because that was where we were staying at. Langham is such a beautiful hotel that has a lot of great scene we could use, but that costed us extra because the hotel does charge for using their facility for professional photo shooting. And for outdoor, we liked to do it on the beach, so Jay suggested Santa Monica beach which was about 40 minutes drive there from Pasadena. After all the discussion, his staff then took me to the other side of the studio to pick out outfits I would like to use for the photo shooting. They have a huge room with all kinds of formal dresses. The package included 3 outfits, but I wanted to use my own wedding gown for one of it, so I only needed to pick 2 outfits from the studio. With so many selection, I have no idea where to start and what I wanted. Jay's staff (I think it was Debbie??) was helping me out a lot. She pulled out few dresses based on the shape of my body and my tone color. She also suggested me another wedding gown to use at the beach so I didn't have to get my own gown dirty. So after trying few dresses, my husband and I decided on 1 red lace gown and my own wedding gown for use at Langham Hotel, and the wedding gown that she suggested for the beach. And then on the day of photo shooting, we went back to the studio early in the morning to get dressed up with my own wedding gown first. Annie (Jay's wife) was the hairstylist and makeup artist. She chatted with me for a bit and asked me to look through the magazine to see what kind of hairstyles I liked, she then figured out something for me that fit my personality. I was stunned to see how fast and how well she did the hair and makeup for me. I love it a lot!! After that, we drove to the hotel and began our photo shooting there. With my own wedding gown on, my husband had black tux on. It was our very first formal photo shooting, so we didn't even know what to do in front of the photographer. But Jay was very professional. He kept talking to us to make us feel more comfortable. He was very talented because he didn't have to think for long but he was able to tell us what to do very quickly and caught us on the best pose and expression. We first started on the bridge inside of the hotel, and we requested to take some photo with the piano, then went to the stairways with the huge chandeliers, and then out to the Japanese Garden in the back of the hotel. Later on, I changed to the red lace gown, and my husband changed to a gray tux. And Annie helped me to change my hairstyle and makeup to match the red gown. We took some photos outside of the bar of the hotel and at the atrium. After that, we needed to get ready and head out to Santa Monica beach, so I changed to the last white gown and my husband changed to white tux. Annie added hair extention on me and changed my hairstyle once again. At the end we changed to our casual outfit for the last portion of photo shooting. From the great experience we had, I would highly recommend anyone for pre-wedding and/or wedding photography from Jay's Studio! read more

I am so glad we hired Jay and his team to shoot our pre-wedding and wedding photos. Jay and Annie were really a pleasure to work with! Jay paid great attention to detail and was very creative in his work. Jay has an eye for beauty, and captured everything beautifully! I initially hired him to shoot my pre-wedding photo locally (Los Angeles area) but once I saw his work for his previous pre-wedding shots, I knew I had hire him to do a destination pre-wedding photoshoot in Hawaii. The second time when I met up with Jay and Annie to go over the detail for the pre-wedding photoshoot, they have already done their homework and came up a list of location in Hawaii for us to choose for our photoshoot. During the day of our pre-wedding photoshoot session, both Jay and Annie were completely professional and extremely punctual and that was why we were able to take pictures in 5 different locations in the Oahu Island in 1 day.Taking photographs with them was a lot of fun because they knew exactly what they were doing and knew all the great spots, lightning and angles to take pictures. After our pre-wedding photoshoot, we were really nervous to look at the pictures because i am not photogenic but the pictures turned out beautifully and stunning. I even upgraded my package to hire Jay to shoot the picture for our wedding day. This is one of the best decisions we've ever done during our entire wedding planning process. Everything was happening so fast during the wedding that it was all a blur for us but thankfully Jay and his team were there to capture so many great moments. Moments we didn't even know existed until we looked through all of our pictures. Overall, I am really grateful to hire Jay as my photographer for both my pre-wedding and wedding day photo. My wife and I (will be known as "we") have known of Jay and Annie for many years. Several of our friends and families have used them for photography and also makeup. I believe this review will be helpful to many of you since Jay and Annie is one stop shop for makeup, pre-wedding photoshoot, and during the wedding photography services. We have used Jay and Annie for a couple occasions ourselves. The first time we had commission Annie was during the month of October in 2015. My wife had requested for Annie help her do her hair and makeup for our wedding (Part 1, we had total of 3 to include most of our friends and families near and far). Annie was informed of the style that my wife wanted. I was amazed at how Annie had transformed my beautiful wife into an angel! As for the second time we had used the dynamic duo of service, it was our part 3 wedding day, which had additional people involved. There were 5 bridesmaids (including the maid of honor) and 2 aunts. Because of the larger group of ladies, Annie had brought in reinforcement to help tackle out makeup duties for the bridesmaids and aunts. Annie's plate was full because my wife had Annie stay the whole day of the wedding for touch ups and changes of outfits. The ladies were ready for their closeup, just as my wife wanted. Before the wedding, Annie asked for everyone's picture and what kind of hair and makeup we wanted, to make sure her helpers had experience with the makeup style, hair style, and ethnicity of the bridal party. Jay was busy as heck that day doing photoshoot that whole day. There was 200 people at the wedding, 12 people in the bridal party, and tons of immediate families members to do family photos (poor Jay was by himself doing all the work). As for the wedding pictures (3rd part of the wedding), came out phenomenal! I didn't see Jay take a lot of pictures except during the time of getting ready. The rest of the time, he was like a ninja! He got a lot of great shots of the whole wedding. My wife had said before our wedding expedition, if it is not Annie who does her hair and makeup, she would not hire anyone to do so for any parts of our wedding. (She has been a bridesmaid in many weddings and was not happy with her hair or makeup that any makeup group did. My wife is an amateur with hair and makeup at best but she felt like she would have looked better as a bridesmaid had she done it herself). We found Jay Studio on pinterest and fall in love with his work. I contacted Jay and hired him for our engagement pictures in Chicago. We had such an amazing experience with Jay and Annie. Jay was very professional and flexible to suit our needs and wants. I wanted to have nighttime and daytime photoshoots, in 5-6 different Chicago's landmarks. I threw a crazy idea and asked Jay what were his thoughts if we were to start at 3am (yes, at dawn) to take advantage for our 'night time session' and our photoshoot would continue till 8-9am for our daytime session. To my surprise, he said: "Let's do it!". He had never done it before and was very excited to experience it for the very first time. And so, we did it!!! During the photoshoot, Jay showed great attitude and professionalism. I was extremely exhausted by the time we reached our 3rd venue. However, Jay was able to lighten up the atmosphere, maintain the momentum, and continue to give encouragement to produce amazing pictures. Not forgetting Annie! Annie is a hidden gem. Annie started my make up + hair session at 1:30am. The thing I like about Annie is that her make up technique is flawless. She can highlight and accentuate your face contours based on your face shape and preference, and still give you the natural look that you want. Annie also used extremely good make up brands on her clients such as Giorgio Armani, Cle De Peau, Chanel, Shu Uemura, etc. Annie is also unbelievably fast in retouches. She did more than 3 times of retouches during our engagement photoshoots and she was able to be creative with different look on my hair as well! Overall, we are really satisfied with Jay and Annie. Unlike other photographers that require you to find your own makeup artist/ hairstylist, Jay's package includes an extremely professional make up artist AND a few gowns/ dresses that you can borrow for the photoshoot. We had our pre-wedding with Jay and Anni at Iceland and Prague this year. It was an amazing experience. We used our pre-wedding photos at our wedding in May, and everyone was surprised and motivated by our photos. Before talking to Jay, I have explored 3 or 4 photographers at the same time, and they are all absolutely great. After the comparison, I knew Jay was the best and have most experience no matter inside or outside the USA, especially Iceland. During the trip, they are not only an excellent photographer and makeup artist, but also the best tour guide I have. They were familiar with every beautiful place, delicious restaurant, amazing hotel, and can always make the best plan for the whole journey. Anni was really really patient, and experienced, she just listened to my expectations and gave me the best hair and makeup style every time. So I knew I would love the photos even before we did that. She recommended lamb hotdog in Iceland, it was the best, ever hotdog I have in my life!!!! I don't even remember how many we bought, maybe 10 or 11 haha. Jay is a very talented photographer! To my mind, a talented photographer has the intuition to frame a great composition out of ordinary places and Jay definitely has that ability. It's about seeing beauty that normal eyes don't see. From my experience, this is mostly a talent that can hardly be learned. We also appreciated how patient Jay was when he guided us how to hold various kinds of postures. Being no model, it was by no means an easy task for us. I hired Jay and Annie to be my wedding photographer and makeup artist. It was the best decision I made with my wedding planning. Annie and Jay arrived all prepared on my wedding day, Annie is very gentle and attention to detail while applying my makeup. Jay and his assistant used different type of cameras and lighting equipments to capture every moment of my wedding. I received almost 1000 photos few weeks after my wedding and they are amazing! From makeup preparation to bridal party, first look, ceremony, wedding couple portraits, first dance, guests' expression during speeches.. Etc. Jay and Annie are amazing!! When we first told Jay about our pre-wedding photos idea: Ice castle, he didn't hesitate but said "let's do this". He did some researches for us about some attractions in Utah and suggest what type of dress and suit we should wear. On the shooting day, it was a snowy day; but Jay and Annie showed their profession and patient to guide us and assist us making poses. So when I told my husband about how I rly liked his work he surprised me with his services for our beautiful wedding. We had a drone caputuring beautiful shots outside our homes before the wedding and at the venue.
