I remember when shaved snow was trending around 2010, maybe even earlier, and thinking how unique it was compared to regular shaved ice. If you've never had shaved snow, the flavor is actually incorporated into the frozen block itself. The machine shaves it into super thin, delicate flakes that practically melt in your mouth. It's completely different from traditional shaved ice, where you're mainly eating ice topped with flavored syrup. Watching the machine shave those thin layers off the block and voilà--you have your dessert! The $8.75 price for a small is definitely hard to ignore when it costs more than some boba drinks or even a bánh mì. But considering there aren't many shaved snow shops left and Salju managed to survive past COVID, I understand that prices have gone up. Shaved snow was honestly a game changer in the frozen dessert category for me. If you've never experienced it before, I recommend trying it at least once! Location & Parking: 3.5/5 Salju is tucked inside a small plaza with limited parking, so finding a spot may take some patience when it's busy. Ambiance: 4/5 There are a few tables inside, but it was crowded when we visited around 8:30 PM--understandable on a hot summer evening! The atmosphere was lively and filled with families and kids enjoying their desserts. Definitely more of a fun dessert stop than a quiet café. Overall: 4/5 The price makes it harder to consider this an everyday dessert, but shaved snow itself is still such a unique treat. With fewer shops specializing in it these days, I'm glad Salju is still around. If you've never tried shaved snow, it's worth experiencing at least once--especially on a hot summer night.

We also get regular scoops, the pre packaged quarts, and sometimes the milkshakes too. I'm writing this review now, after many years, because I was recently SO impressed with my online order. I ordered a chocolate ice cream cake (choco cake and choco ice cream) through the app. I was able to use my $5 off cake coupon as well. I called ahead of time and asked if they can make the chick cake into a character from Sanrio (Gudetama) instead. The person I spoke to, John, was super helpful and kind throughout the whole process. I emailed him the photo ideas I had and the cake decorator was able to accomplish the task! John was in consistent communication with me throughout my two week in-advanced order. The decorator did such an amazing job and my family was so happy with the results. The cake and ice cream also tasted delicious! During pick up, the workers greeted me as I entered. I was helped by John and he reassured me that the cake was indeed chocolate ice cream/chocolate cake. I appreciated that he checked before the outside icing went on. We are very happy with the service of the employees, the scrumptious cake received, the easiness of ordering and communicating, and the smooth and fast experience of picking up the order on Father's Day Sunday. We will be telling all our friends and family about our amazing cake experience!

The matcha w/ red bean taiyaki is good, but it doesn't need the extra flair, honestly. So tasty on its own. I'm not a huge ice cream fan, but this was really enjoyable. The girl working the counter was a young girl just getting by her summer day job. She was nice but timid. It was our first time there and a little more energy on her end could've been better. Ordered the ube swirl, pineapple dole whip, mung bean taiyaki, and a custard one togo. The taiyaki that goes onto the ice cream is a lot bigger than one we ordered to go. I thought it would be as big, but when I got it, it was so much smaller and flat. Also, the taiyaki that goes on top of the ice cream was old. It had been sitting there for a while or was made earlier as it was hard and difficult to bite. The red bean inside I also assumed was a paste like how they make the Japanese version, however there were whole pieces in there. It was okay, but I thought they'd be like paste. Overall, the only thing that was good was the ube swirl and the pineapple dole whip. It was also extremely warm in the shop, like no AC in the triple digits summer heat. Had to eat it elsewhere. I most likely won't be back.

Alfonso was extremely welcoming and easy to chat with felt like I was catching up with my friend's tio. All ice cream are made in-house. We stopped by right as they opened at 1pm and Alfonso apologized as some flavors might not have set enough to be served since he came in a bit late today. He usually comes in around 5am to prep when flavors are running low. Everything we tried wasn't too sweet. Definitely will be coming back and trying other flavors! Taro -so creamy, perfectly flavored and not overly artificial. Horchata -not too much cinnamon. Surprisingly good for it being water based, just enough creaminess from the condensed milk in it. Strawberry Jamaica -if you love strawberries, this flavor is it. Paired perfectly with chamoy and tajin. Mango -so refreshing, I added condensed milk on my own and chef's kiss. Wished they offered condensed milk here! Watermelon -liked this more than the Mango, but both are good. Chamoy and Tajin paired well! Mamey -creamy but the prefect amount of fruitiness. Also sooo good. Coffee -if you love Vietnamese coffee, this one is for you. It was so strong in a good way. We topped it with condensed milk at home and it was chef's kiss. Crack in a cup.. If you don't like strong coffee, stray away. Pistachio -tons of crushed pistachio throughout. Guanabana (soursop)- favorite flavor from water based we tried. It tastes just like the real fruit. Lime -just enough tanginess. My colleague ordered this and opted for no chamoy, personally felt like it was missing something but still good on its own. We topped it with condensed milk and also chef's kiss. Vanilla -sooo creamy and good, there is depth that I can't explain. Coconut- creamy coconut milk, not artificial flavor taste. Tons of coconut shreds if you don't mind texture. But it's a bit much if you get more than one scoop.

Now I can say, I found a place that's just like the guy down the street from my abuelita's in GDL. Yesterday, we stopped at La Garrafa MX on our way to LA. As we walked-in I felt the "Mexico vibe" we greeted and were greeted by staff and customers "buenas tardes, buenas tardes, buenas tardes." Loved it! Establishment had two other couples and then our group of three. Who I presume was the owner was very nice guiding us thru his best selling flavors and providing us samples. We talked here and there and our families are so close to each other in GDL and Tamazula so we decided he's our honorary cousin. Lol Nieve de garrafa surpassed my expectations and it's the closest you'll get the nieve de garrafa estilo Jalisco. We plan to return again today on our way back home. In the future this foodie won't mind making the 2hr drive for nieve de garrafa. P.s. we kept talking about it as we checked-in at our hotel so our front desk started craving it (small world- he's gone before) so he decided to go and have some after his shift.

While the shop is pretty small, it's more ideal for a grab and go type of shop rather than a hangout spot. Although they do have some small tables and bench seating. Free street parking + parking lot in the back, underground parking as well along with free Wi-Fi in the shop. Staff here is pretty mixed. While they're friendly, they seem a bit slow at times. They can take up to 10-15 minutes per order even if there's not much customers, not sure what the exact process is but sometimes they're fast but sometimes slow, could be just a off chance experience. Most pictures you see from Tea Brick are their amazing and unique bottle designs, which you can pay a tad bit extra to get the bottle with your drink rather than the standard cups. I'd say it's pretty worth it considering it's not too much of a expensive and it's definitely worth the social media posts. It's very cute and they have plenty of designs from time to time. As a dog owner, I love their designs. They can be reusable in a sense even though there's a hole for your straw that you can't seal yourself. As for the drinks, they're not the best but not the worse either. They can be refreshing at times especially on a warmer day. Overall, a decent experience, more of a experience to get their cute bottle cups rather than the drinks. Regardless, happy overall with their decent quality drinks and their amazing cup designs.
