I used to come to this place many, many years ago when I was a student, and now it's nostalgic to return as a parent with my kids. Pre-COVID, this spot was really cool (no pun intended) because you could actually watch them make the rolled ice cream right in front of you. However, more recently they've switched to a door-ordering model, so you can't really go inside anymore, which is kind of sad. I miss the unique, open space where they used to make the ice cream right in front of you, but I understand the safety concerns. They say that they're under construction, which it does look like they are, but looking at the photos on Yelp it seems like they've been "under construction" since 2023 which seems a little unlikely... I loveee this spot! Discovered it a few months back and been obsessed ever since! My go to is the Nutella strawberry banana and it's perfect every time. The ice cream is always nice and flavorful and the fruit is always fresh and pretty! I do wish they were open during the week as well but definitely worth visiting on the weekends! October 14, 2023. The only rolled ice cream shop in town. Atlantic and Garvey at Monterey Park next to Daikokuya restaurant. They only open Friday 7pm to 12pm and Saturday and Sunday 4pm to 12am. Their shop is under construction so orders are just taken by their door. As of now their phone from yelp and website is not accurate and we told them about it so they will check in on it. We decided to just visit the place and happy to see that they are open. Rolled ice cream only, snacks are not available for today. This place is still operating as if we're in covid times.... you can't go inside, nowhere to sit outside. Ice cream rolls! After eating dinner around the area, my sister and I were craving for some desserts. It was a cold night but that didn't stop us from wanting some ice cream! They are a small shop. The shop was empty while we were there. Even though we were super full for dinner, we still grabbed 2 flavors especially since they had a deal going on. BOGO! Sweet! We got the milk tea and cookies n' creme. The milk tea tasted weird. Maybe because we're just used to drinking it instead of eating it. The boba was chewy. Cookies n' creme tasted old. The Oreo crumbs and the brownie bites that came with it tasted old as well. Textures for both flavors were not creamy like they should be. They were more on the icy/harder side. It was cool to see how the ice creams were rolled. I felt bad for the workers though because I'm sure their arms were tired from all the work they put into making these rolls. This place gets 5 stars as to how they make the ice cream rolls, and as far as presentation is concerned. The available toppings gets 5 stars, but the flavor of the ice cream was just average. I had to try their Halo Halo, since the name and their ingredients were similar to a Filipino dessert. It had coconut jelly, jackfruit, coconut flakes, whipped cream, condensed milk, 2 strawberry wafers and ube ice cream. It tasted similar to a Filipino halo halo. The only reason that I did not give this place 5 stars is because I am accustomed to a more flavorful ube ice cream. My son enjoyed his Thai Tea Oreo. It consisted of Thai tea Oreo ice cream with Oreo crumbs, mini mochi and condensed milk. He said that it was good but, the mochi was harder than most. Good ice cream roll. Located right by Daikokuya and is a great place to have dessert after lunch or dinner. You can just walk there. It is the only other food spot in the plaza other than the dimsum upstairs. Not sure how we would find this place if we didn't know anybody who had been here. This was the second time I've had ice cream rolls, the first being Chelo. I wasn't expecting much since I wasn't impressed the last time I had it. To my surprise, I actually did like it. We got the Thai Tea and Strawberry Cheesecake specialty roll. The strawberry one comes with 2 strawberry pocky's, fresh strawberries, whip cream, and cheesecake bites. I never order strawberry ice cream, but I took a couple bites and it wasn't bad. It had a nice flavor to it and didn't taste artificial or sour. I didn't try the actual strawberry or cheesecake bites, so not sure how that was. The Thai Tea one comes with crushed oreos, colored mochi, with a drizzle of condensed milk. I used the five star reward program and was actually able to use a free topping, so we added boba to it. The thai tea roll tasted pretty much like thai tea to me. The mochi and boba was soft to. The oreo was crushed pretty fine, but I wouldn't have mind if it was just small pieces to maybe add texture since everything else was soft. The condensed milk was really light since they didn't add much, but maybe you can ask for more? Not quite sure. Price: The specialty rolls were $6 each. Not entirely sure, but I think ice cream was $3? They had drinks too, but I can't remember at all what the price was. Location/Parking: It is located in the corner plaza on Atlantic and Garvey with Daikokuya. If you are coming from the 10 and drive down Atlantic, the entrance is before the light. It's not that big, so I would suggest driving slow. There is little parking on the ground floor, but they have an underground parking. If you go to the lowest level, there was plenty of parking, at least on a Monday night. Service: When we first walked in, I saw a girl on her laptop, but I don't think she saw us right away. She didn't get up until we were already looking at the menu. Not much I can say though since they I just had to order and wait. It wasn't a quick wait, but I wouldn't say it took long either. Maybe a little more than 5 minutes for 2 different specialty rolls. Although I liked it, I don't see myself coming back unless someone wants to. I didn't enjoy it as much as the other place I tried in Koreatown because the ice cream was rather thick, not light, and without much flavor (for the ube). The toppings is what kinda made the ube-after a while though, the ice cream lost its taste. The Nutella one tasted like a mild chocolate. One employee was chewing gum/eating while making the rolls. I found that to be a turn off. The location has an inside bathroom (gender neutral). The business itself has seating for about 20, and behind the counter looks cluttered. I'd suggest you park in the half and half plaza and walk over Atmosphere: it's a small ice cream place. They have the workers make ice cream in front of you, similar to cold stone, but more for Asian aha. Decided to try out this place randomly one night. First of all, it was a little confusing finding where this place was exactly located in the little business building, especially since we parked in the underground garage. After exploring the empty building we finally found that it's located on the other side, where there is more parking in a lot outside. There aren't really that many options, but they look pretty solid - Thai Tea, matcha, nutella, etc. We got a Thai Tea which had colorful mochi on top, crushed oreo and some condensed milk. It was pretty good! But gosh there's so much ice cream in the little cup, it's deceiving. Also, because it was made the rolled way, I found the ice cream really hard to eat. It was just too frozen and the rolls kind of made it difficult to scoop. This is just my personal complaint regarding all rolled ice cream. I've been wanting to try this place since it's the only 'ice cream rolls' dessert place around the area. It's located in a pretty dead plaza a few doors down from Daikokuya. The place is small. My little sister wanted to get the ice cream rolls but it was a 25 minute wait, so no thanks. There's only two "rolling stations" which is why there's a wait. We ended up getting just scoops of ice cream. Their flavors are kinda out of the ordinary. We got pandan, blue mint, and pistachio. I love the texture and creaminess. For me, it's not overly sweet. The pandan flavor was pretty strong which I like. The girl said that the blue mint has Oreos in it but my sister thought it tasted more like mint chip ice cream. The pistachio was good, but not completely like the typical pistachio flavor you buy at the grocery store. Each scoop was $2.99. It's decently priced especially because these new upcoming ice cream places are charging $4+ for a scoop. Additional scoops are only $2, but the scoops they gave us were pretty big. Also, there's a $10 minimum to use your card and a 50¢ fee if it's under the minimum. Our total was $9 something so instead of paying the fee, we just added a topping which was also 50¢. I've been to a total of 4 ice cream roll places now (zumo freeze, chelo, bluenovala and here)...ok one doesn't count (zumo freeze)...since it was at the Chinese new year festival but still. I bought two flavors. Strawberry cheesecake and cookies and cream. The verdict tasteless. Ok, to give them a bit of credit, I just had bluenovala the week before, the comparison is unfair. The strawberry rolls which were made of unsweetened cream? And house made strawberry jam? Was completely flavorless. The drizzle of strawberry sauce didn't help. The whipped cream was sweeter than the actual ice cream! They added a few cubes of cheesecake and diced strawberries. I was disappointed. I paid a little over $15 for both. Truly not worth it. I should've went to daikokuya and bought a bowl of ramen. Overall I will try them a second time to see if the mixture was just off that day. Let's just hope I can update this review with more stars. They taped pieces of paper over ice cream flavors displaying their limited choices.. It looks terrible and quite tacky in my opinion. They also do not know how to keep the place clean. It costs $6 for any of their signature flavors and $6.50 if you want to build your own. Pretty standard price for rolled icecream, although for a dessert, it is on the pricier end. The only con I experienced here is that they don't seem to wipe down the tables. Most of the tables were empty when I went, but they were pretty nasty, so I had to wipe it down myself. Let's just say I think dessert places that make such aesthetic desserts should keep their interior pristine as well.
