    Soup and salad.

I was craving Asian cuisine and looking for someplace new near work close to the highlands. I saw Jaymar online and decided to give it a try. I was seated and my drink order was taken right away. I opted for a Modelo. I noticed the place looked spotlessly clean in every nook and cranny. I didn't see a crum anywhere. Decor was minimal with typical Japanese-esque elements. Hanging red silk lanterns and silk cherry blossom branches. Nice modern lighting gave the space an easy, inviting atmosphere. I explained to my server I was in a rush. I asked him if the hibachi menu was pretty quick. He said it could be made in under 10 minutes. I ordered hibachi chicken. True to the server's word, it arrived quick, fresh and hot. Soup and salad came first. Soup was a savory broth with scallions and mushroom slivers. It wasn't super flavorful but it was fine and I ate it all. The salad was typical, a small bowl of iceberg lettuce with a very tasty ginger dressing. The lettuce was absolutely swimming in the liquid and there was probably a 1/4 left in my bowl after I ate my salad. Too much, but I guess that is better than not enough. The entree came pleasantly presented with a generous mound of rice, nice chunks of chicken and veggie on the side. It was all pretty tasty. The rice was the best part but it was all quite good. My bill was $33 for dinner and two Modelos including tip. I thought that was pretty good for the amount of food and two beers. I have no complaints about the food or service and will likely return.

It's a new neighborhood Japanese restaurant that serves sushi, hibachi, ramen, noodle dishes and more! We were thrilled to have this new restaurant pop up on Ash and Hickory in Schnitzelburg. There is plenty of street parking on Hickory and on nearby streets. When you enter it's modestly decorated - with two small dining areas with a few tables in each. At the far side of the restaurant there is a sushi bar. Service was good but a bit slow - food came out pretty quickly! We ordered the gyoza for a starter, it came with 5 pieces and was juicy and flavorful. For our main entrees we ordered the California roll, shrimp fried rice, kids hibachi chicken, spicy miso ramen and deluxe sushi platter. Sushi was done first and arrived quickly - the California roll is really big and filling. Sushi was great - we ordered simple rolls. The ramen was delicious, deep flavor and bouncy chewy noodles, along with an egg, pork, fish cakes, and dumplings! The kids hibachi and shrimp fried rice were very good - tasted just like a traditional hibachi restaurant but not cooked on the table. Overall a good meal / total was around $75 for four of us and no drinks. Stop by and check it out!

We wanted to use our bento boxes so ordered an excessive amount of takeout from our neighborhood sushi place. All delicious. Diablo Roll (love the crunchiness & sprouts), Red Dragon Roll, yakisoba vegetables, vegetable tempura (the sweet potato & broccoli were especially good), salad, ginger sauce, & miso. Excited to eat them again tomorrow.

I can't believe it took me this long to visit a restaurant a few blocks from my house! I went with our local neighborhood council and we had an amazing meal. Food was fresh and flavorful. Plating was lovely. Service was speedy and efficient for our larger group. We ordered many rolls and the staff made sure we all got them promptly. We ordered house salads (which was covered in the BEST ginger dressing I have ever had), spring rolls, and coconut shrimp. I loved the Crazy Roll, Jaymar Rolls, Red Phoenix Roll, and literally every other thing I tried. You can dine in or get it to go. I've already planned my next trip!

I really hope the team will take this feedback to heart -- I genuinely want this restaurant to succeed. It's so exciting to finally have an Asian restaurant close to home in the Germantown/Schnitzelburg area, and I'd love to become a regular here. Here are a few areas where I think there's room for improvement: - Tempura: The batter was too thick--I found myself removing a lot of it. Traditional tempura tends to be light and crisp, allowing the vegetable underneath to shine through. Not expecting authentic here, but even a slightly lighter coating would make a big difference in texture and presentation. I've included photo of how much breading I removed. - Sushi rice: The rice was quite moist and could benefit from being a little drier and more seasoned with rice vinegar (or experiment with mirin, sake, something to help the rice). The balance of texture and flavor in the rice really makes a difference in sushi rolls. - Tobiko: The tobiko had a chewy/rubbery texture, which may suggest it's not as fresh. I understand it might not be a big seller, but perhaps featuring it in a roll or running a tobiko special could help with turnover and freshness. - Salmon roe: These were saltier than usual -- maybe due to dehydration or the particular variety used? Not sure, but definitely unusual, never had this experience with salmon roe. I'm genuinely rooting for this place. Having a sushi spot in Germantown makes me so happy, and I really hope the team continues refining the food quality.

Fantastic sushi- large rolls with lots of variety. On our first visit we got had favorites that will make it hard to choose when we return!

We've eaten here and gotten takeout several times now and our food is always tasty and fresh. Really great prices, especially the happy hour! The owner is really kind.

This place is incredible. Apparently there's a connection to Sake Blue and Sapporo. Easily just as good as both, if not better. We got the Maneater/Jordan/John You. All were absolutely superb! And more than enough for two people. We have a whole rolls worth of leftovers! What a gem this place is though. Get in there and keep these guys in business. What a shame it would be for this place to not succeed because it's tucked back in the neighborhood where you wouldn't know it was there unless you lived around here. Absolutely blown away. We carried out, and the host was so sweet and so kind. Talked with us and told us the connection to the aforementioned sushi places and helped us determine our rolls for the evening. So thankful this place exists. Ambience is super cute. Get. In. There! Favorite sushi in town now

The menu had a lot of options. They have a happy hour appetizers everyday. They're garlic edamame was fantastic so much flavor. Fast friendly service, and even though I did not have the sushi I saw everybody else's orders and they were big fat rolls of sushi. I highly recommend this little Japanese restaurant.

Food was amazing and the service was so quick and so nice I recommend for sushi lovers

Amazing! Happened to stumble upon this place, feels like a hidden gem. They have a sushi happy hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not sure what the time frame is for happy hour pricing, but we really enjoyed the sushi! The space is nothing fancy but the rolls are INCREDIBLE!

A sushi spot was needed in the Schnitzelburg/Germantown area and this filled the void perfectly. Happy hour deals are great and the rolls are big. The California roll and John You roll are my favorites. I have been probably 10+ times and will continue to support. Quick service and very friendly staff.

The food is seriously some of the tastiest Asian food and sushi I've ever had. Best in Louisville, as far as we are concerned.

Nice interior, very good service…read more We arrived just before happy hour ended so we took advantage and ordered two appetizers, one pork and one vegetable gyoza. Both were very fresh and delicious. My entree was the Kiwami Shiro (pork broth, scallion, mushroom, bamboo, egg, pulled pork, sliced pork, noodles). The broth was incredible and pulled the whole thing together. I definitely want to come here again and try more items off the menu.

Kiwami comes pretty close to meeting my criteria. Quality: yes. 100%. Excellent ingredients, tasteful decor, sturdy serving bowls, whimsical ladles for slurping broth. Weird that the chopsticks are disposable while other utensils are not. Variety: erm. Yes for people who are not plant-based. I would love to see additional vegan options in all entree categories (tofu poke bowl, please). The veggie ramen was fabulous as was the edamame. Just more. Taste: A+. The broth was complex and glorious, the kale noodles lovely, the toppings (brussels spouts, broccoli, tofu, avocado) all prepared and seasoned perfectly. Temperature: yes. Nice and hot. Perfect. Texture: noodles were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of chew, however toppings were all pretty homogenous in texture. The raw greens on top were a little strange. It would have been nice to have a crispy or crunchy element. Value: I mean, Kiwami is a ramen place on Bardstown Road. I didn't expect a deal. I paid $20 for a bowl of ramen plus tip. Not ridiculous, but also not a price that allows me to visit as often as I would like. Overall, Kiwami has earned my respect and likely repeat business, especially if they add more vegan options and offer a repeat customer discount.

I think my cocktail was called the Tokyo Pop? Not positive but you have to get it. Gin, bubbles, sake, and a hint of lemon in a flute glass. Refreshing, a hint of sweet, a hint of lemon, and extremely drinkable. It would be too easy to throw a ton of these back. But I was demure and had one. I enjoyed the calamari--my go-to here. Crispy, with a bit of heat from pickled peppers, a bit a of sweet form a sweet glaze, and a nice herby zing from mint, herbs, and scallions. They also top the calamari with a a nice portion of greens dressed in a lemon vinaigrette, making this appetizer feel close to a light meal. I am absolutely obsessed with the ponzu mayo that comes on the side. An absolutely delightful touch. I also enjoyed the chocolate cream pot. Talk about decadent. I love that it is served with berries, because you need that tartness to balance out the richness. Fully indulgent. Bonus points: I working fireplace. (And holiday decor still up--this never bothers me.) The ambiance is always lovely, with something iconic on the TV always playing. This spot is one of my fave representation of the Louisville food scene.
