Being a long time customer of Hiko-A-Mon this is hopefully a one time thing. A take out order for Udon Tempura was given to me without the Udon. When asked about it the server said it was all there. After getting back home and confirming the Udon was missing I called the restaurant and a manager said I could come back and get it, or the would give me a credit tied to my phone number. read more

I recently tried hiko-A-mon with a large group. They have this really great side room that they set us in. It was quiet and we were easily able to speak across the table. The service was attentive and the menu was expansive. A lot of different options of Japanese favorites along with some new dishes I'd never heard of. Everyone really enjoyed their food. I love the fact that they take reservations. That takes the pressure off of planning a dinner. I'd definitely go back next time I'm in the mood for Japanese food. read more

I used to LOVE hiko until a horrible experience today. The Kentucky Role is advertised as Crab, Tuna, Salmon. The roll is stuffed 99% full of imitation crab/mayo, with a sliver of Tuna and Salmon surrounding. Absolutely disgusting. Chicken Teriyaki Hibachi, pretty tough to go wrong with, right? - WRONG. Chicken was dry, flavorless, rice was decent. Server was not friendly or accommodating. Hiko used to be the hill I would die on for Sushi/Japanese. Miso soup was amazing however everything else including the service was terrible. The teriyaki chicken looked like a boiled chicken breast with a drizzle of teriyaki. So dry we couldn't eat it even after ordering an extra side of teriyaki and we have had better sushi from the grocery store. I was just told that what I wanted to order for my daughter and I was too expensive and I repeatedly told the lady I can afford what I want to order and she insisted I order other stuff instead. OMG! What a lovely surprise to find this wonderful place. Located in a small mall hidden from the street by full grown trees, I almost missed the area due to the restaurant being in the mall's inner sanctum. It's near the Jade Palace which is my next stop tomorrrow.... When I arrived, it was full of people but the sushi bar was very empty. There were many seats and very roomy. You don't feel like you're packed in like a lot of other places. Service was efficient and quick. The food is excellent! I found my favorite, Age dashi tofu, served in a different way. Almost like a stew! Delicious! The chef's sashimi was wonderful as well with big pieces. There is also a full bar but I didn't partake. Maybe next time. read more

We had a great experience here! We had a larger group and we got to sit off to the side in a sunken table, which I've always ogled at every time I'm at a Japanese restaurant. This place was highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. I started with the typical Japanese restaurant salad with that addictive ginger dressing. Seriously I could drink that out of a straw. It took me a really really long time and long look at the menu to decide on my entree. I landed on the tonkatsu. It was good, not life changing, but still good! The sauce it came with was pretty tasty as well. I've heard the sushi here is delicious, so when I have some more disposable income freed up I can't wait to work my way through the sushi menu! Overall, really good experience. I really enjoyed my broiled yellowfin dinner (served with steamed veg, side salad, potato croquette, rice, and a choice of sauce, all for under $25). I don't like raw fish so I usually order deep fried rolls and the Las Vegas roll was a great one. The zaru soba was decent. The dipping sauce was salty and the portion a little small for my taste, but otherwise very solid. The environment is stellar. It's got a cozy and dim ambience, and there's even a section where you can sit in the ground around a low table. It's a nice place that's well put together with a very friendly and responsive staff. I was in a group but had to leave early and our server attended to that need perfectly, bringing out my food and check earlier. All in all, Hiko-a-mon is a great environment with a good option for Japanese food, but maybe not your best bet if you like bigger portions and less salty food. read more

Offering a wide variety of foods you can order, from rice and noodles to raw and cooked fish. If you love sashimi or nigiri order a platter, they come out beautiful and reasonably priced! Pan seared duck was the best duck I've ever had. Bento box was delicious and different with other places. Red snapper for appetizer had a tasty zesty sauce that it made it so unique. Friend was sick so we came for the udon! Was not disappointed but i was still hungry, that said i also came super hungry and generally eat a lot haha. The nabe udon definitely hit the spot and that broth was good. Came out hot, with a softt boiled egg, shrimp tempura on the side no complaints. My go-to roll at most places is the Crunch Munch but my friend was getting that so I wanted to try something new. The Crunch Bourbon was wonderful! My son came up for Labour day, so being from a state that is an ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) State and it is just as the name states.. The government controls what you get to buy... any way... He wanted to go bourbon shopping, so after he selected multiple bourbons from the store next door (I picked a couple of new finds myself) We decided Sushi was going to be our meal of choice. More often than not I am disappointed, but Hiko-A-Mon did not disappoint. We were seated quickly and started to peruse the Sushi Menu... We decided to start out with a seaweed salad and Sake. We ordered multiple rolls, from Spicy Tuna to Rainbow... I added an order of Scallops... Every thing was very good. The Sake was so good, we ordered another round. We could have eaten more, but the restaurant had filled up and there was a long line waiting to be seated... So out of concern for our waste lines and for our fellow patrons, we called it a night. Service was slow. I ordered salmon sashimi and red snapper carpaccio. It was slow to come out. And when I was done with my meal, server was still no where. He didn't come to check on me at all. Only saw him when ordering and when he brought the food. Salmon sashimi was a good portion for the price and tasted good. The carpaccio was too tart. It tasted like it has more lemon juice than yuzu juice. I would like to come back again to try other dishes, but I'm afraid the service will not be good again. Quick Take: Louisville's only Japanese owned Japanese restaurant. Very fresh sushi, they do take reservations and are quite small. Make a date night in Westport Village. Lots of "Americanized" sushi though. Details: Even though I live within a 10 min walk, I've only been here a handful of times and it does not disappoint. Lots of fun to be had in Westport Village especially if there is a concert or event (tastings at Westport Whiskey and Wine etc.). They always ask if you "have a reservation" although its usually no problem sitting at the sushi bar (my preferred spot) but a little tougher during Covid times. Highly recommend the daily sushi special rolls but you will have to get up and memorize the small white board by the bar. Overall the sushi is fresh and flavorful, but a little lacking on variety (you won't find Urchin or Fish roe on the menu). Ginger salad is always on point and they even give you an extra side of dressing. They also have bento boxes and even a surf and turf for the meat lovers out there. One of the best sushi places in the area (DKD is my personal fav). read more

My friend and I were craving sushi and we checked the handy dandy Yelp app and saw this was the first spot so we hopped in the car and left. The inside is very nice, a good spot for date night. There's plenty of space so you're not siting right next to other tables. Also it has a cozy feel to it. The service was also great. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure the glasses were full. The sushi is a little expensive so I went with a California roll. Even though the California roll is the most basic rolls to get, it was still really good. Hiko-A-Mon is a great addition to Westport Village and it did not disappoint. I went with the Las Vegas roll which included salmon, cream cheese, avocado and as deep fried... it was fantastic! Although I did not have anything to drink, their wine and cocktail list looked like it has a lot to offer, and quite the variety. Service was quick and friendly to add to it! First time coming here and I was surprised how great the inside was. The workers were very nice and friendly from beginning to end. When walking in, my friend and I noticed how busy this place was with to-go orders. There were a few people who were ready to pick up their food, but they prioritize seating us down first. That was a plus! After seating down we were taken care of right away with water, utensils, and napkins. Their menu was a bit overwhelming with it's own style. I'm usually a guy who's willing to try something new, but I really wanted a bento. They only had one option and it was something different so I went for it. The Miso here is served so cute ahah, and it tasted so authentic. I wanted so much more. When I received my bento, I was so surprised by it's presentation. It was literally in a two story box. opened it and was happy with what I saw. Yes it didn't look like A LOT of food, but it's the quality and taste is what I was going for.
