I was in town for work and had heard that Dragon King's daughter was a great choice for sushi so I had to stop by. I started off with a seaweed salad. Very fresh and very flavorful. I then had two rolls, selfish shellfish, and also a spicy tuna. Both served very quickly, fresh and delicious. I said at the bar and the bartender was extremely friendly and engaging. He helped me with some of my selections. The back bar is well stocked and beautiful. Restaurant is in good repair and very clean. Looking forward to my next visit where I can try some other dishes. read more

The bento box deal for lunch -- such a keeper! My friends and I got takeout from the New Albany Dragon King's Daughter during a recent ladies' weekend in the area. It was super easy to order online and pick up just a short bit later. And for the bento boxes, you can choose your sushi roll from a list and then get it with veggie gyoza, chips and ginger salsa, seaweed salad and the side of the day. In our case, the side was similar to coleslaw. I didn't eat much of the side or seaweed salad but very much enjoyed the rest. And for my roll, I went with The Indulgent, which is made with spicy crab, cream cheese, avocado, tempura fried. This was a filling and easy lunch. Don't miss out on it! read more

All good, The Ramen broth had great flavor, edamame was loaded with garlic. The wontons were good, typically used to the sauce to be sweeter but still good. Awesome service, spacious and cozy interior, and a fun menu. - Hot jasmine tea was flavorful and steamin' - Tonkotsu ramen was big enough for us to split. Thick garlic-y broth w/ good spongy noodles & charred pork. Very tasty and balanced, served hot! (4.5/5) - Cooked sushi was "Where Is Drew" - crispy and good mix of salmon/imitation crab (4/5) - Uncooked sushi was "Dippity" - solid spicy crab topped w/ salmon & avocado (3.5/5) They also had great 70s groovy music playing, which added to the vibe. Went for lunch on New Albany, we each ordered a sushi roll, a Black Widow and a Son of Jade. Both rolls lacked any flavor from the fish. If it wasn't for the unagi sauce on the Black Widow I would be hard pressed to tell what we were eating. Service was okay. read more

We came to Dragon King's Daughter excited to try a mix of sushi and cocktails, and while there were definitely highlights, the experience felt a bit uneven overall. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was actually really good; crispy and well-seasoned. For sushi, we tried three rolls: the Flippity, Swanson, and Spider. All of them were just okay, if a little underwhelming. The Flippity was noticeably salty, likely due to the sauce drizzled on top. The Swanson had a good size, but the rice-to-filling ratio felt off, which made it feel more filler than flavor. Same with the Spider roll. Overall, the rolls are on the smaller side. Cocktails were a win! I had the Watermelon Kimono--light, refreshing, and perfect for summer. My husband ordered an espresso-based cocktail (we forgot the name), but he really enjoyed it. We were most excited about the tiramisu--it was the main reason we chose to dine here. It was pretty good but could've used more texture to balance the creaminess. A few ladyfingers would've taken it up a notch. Service was excellent; attentive and friendly. Ambience is fantastic, with a relaxed but upscale vibe. Overall, not blown away by the food, but cocktails and service were strong enough to make it an enjoyable lunch out. Came in for a sushi dinner and left with satisfied tastebuds. Service was on the slower side but this place was pretty busy for a Tuesday evening. Very extensive menu with a nice selection. I ended up getting the Dragon Kings Daughter and My Neighbor Toto Toro rolls. I love dragon rolls so I wasn't surprised that this one was delicious. I love that it was the perfect bite too as some of these can be quite oversized. However I WAS surprised with the Toto Toro roll. Wow. From the light sear on the outside to the sesame on the inside, all the flavors were just spot on. read more

The Dragon King's daughter in New Albany is located right off of market Street. It is a lovely complement to the location in Louisville. The options are very similar and I love that they have a happy hour that's available on all days. The happy hour is between 3 to 6 and they have a special menu featuring no substitutions. As a vegetarian, I'm always pleasantly surprised Vegetarian offerings that they have on the happy hour. Today I was able to get the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious roll and the summer spring roll. The summer spring roll is so mind blowing good. It reminds you of having something fresh out of the garden with the greens and the cilantro and then it's just taken to a new level with the spicy mayo. The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious roll is spicy tofu with jalapeño that is a tempura fried roll. I think with it being fried, it actually adds such an elegant flavor. We enjoyed this with a Japanese beer, which made things even better. Service was prompt and kind. The ambiance makes to feel like you are in a special Japanese hideout. I have been to the one in Louisville and was excited to try this one. It did not disappoint. The Derby Old Fashioned was so good. The drizzled chocolate and nuts on the side sets this old fashioned apart from all the others. The edamame was good. Sushi was also good. The kimichi beef was absolutely delicious. Very spicy. I like spicy food. Mixing the kimchi beef with the fried rice was so good. The oreo roll was not good to me. Rice and oreo just wasn't a good combination to me. I will definitely return. read more

I'm updating my previous review due to the fact that DKD has exceeded my expectations in recent years. This is absolutely one of the first places that comes to mind when visitors from out of town ask for dining recommendations. Food is a unique mix of flavors and textures. The sushi is unlike what you'll find anywhere else. The cocktail menu is on point! Watermelon kimono and the 3:10 to Yuma are especially refreshing. Service is always top notch! If you can, grab a booth on the bar side. That's the darker, more private portion. The general seating side is fine, but much brighter and open. It's great! Go! read more

My wife and I are here right now...the beer is warm, the Gyoza was super cold (had to make a new batch), and the sushi was the worst sushi I have ever tasted. it was warm and tasted like I caught a bluegill and straight up licked the outside of the fish...best way to describe it. My niece, my mom & I were the City of New Albany's Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series on a Friday evening. The park is just down the road from DKD. I ordered all three of us food by placing an order online. It said it would be ready in 45 minutes. My niece & I walked over to pick up our order. We walked over & order was ready within 5 minutes of arriving (still earlier than 45 minutes) which we appreciated. My niece had a brilliant idea to ask for an extra to go container so we could each have our own "plate." The staff was happy to do that for us. I really like the two different ambiance choices at DKD! You can choose the casual side or the sleeker, sexier side. We were seated right away on a Friday night. We split kimchi, veggie gyoza, jfc tofu, and the Coco Caliente Roll. The kimchi was good, really spicy. The veggie gyoza and sauce were the highlight for sure. The fried tofu and roll were only okay to us. It is definitely a preference but I didn't think the red pepper made sense. I love roasted red peppers but I guess not on top of a sushi roll. My husband and I had dinner here tonight. We each got a delicious cocktail to drunk and munched on some edamame while waiting on our meals. This was the first time I have had edamame and it definitely won't be my last. They were delicious and I had a refreshing bourbon cocktail to wash it down with. I ordered the vegetable fried rice and added beef to it. The order was huge so I gladly took home my leftovers The service was great. Apparently the bar got a little backed up so our waiter apologized but it really didn't feel like we waited very long at all. First the positives: The restaurant is nice and clean. The service was decent. Didn't have to wait long to be seated. The food was OK. Now the negatives. The food was just OK. I LOVE Tuna Nigiri and my opinion is shaped by the quality of the tuna and the amount served, and both fall short at DKD. The tuna was just a sliver and wasn't as fresh as some other places I visit. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite New Albany restaurant. Started with the Stuffed Wontons, we almost got a second plate they were so tasty! My partner got the Flipity, that's her go to. I went with the miso soup and kimchi beef, both were excellent. They add mushrooms, onions and carrots to their miso, it's very delicious but wanted to mention it. I've been going to this restaurant for over 3 years. It used to be my favorite place to hit in New Albany. This particular visit, however, was just totally off. This was on a Tuesday for lunch and the place was not that busy. The first thing was us coming into the restaurant with an abandoned front desk. So we waited about 5 minutes and finally a young woman dressed in a hoodie and a t-shirt comes in, barely gives us eye contact and asks in a sullen voice "How many". I said two for the bar and she basically just frowns her way into the bar and seats us with zero words. Yikes. The place looks run-down. It needs a good deep-clean. The table felt greasy and the water glasses stunk like they weren't clean. So we each order the bento box lunch, a fairly safe bet. The tempura, rice on the side, seaweed salad, with a sushi roll. Only this time, it's chips and some kind of bad salsa that I couldn't eat, two onion rings with hot sauce on them that I can't eat, no rice, a spoonful of seaweed salad and my sushi roll. That's it. And it's 14 dollars! For basically what adds up to an appetizer. Not enough lunch there to talk about. And that used to be an item that you'd have leftovers from. The bartender/waiter was great, it's been the same guy for a long time and he's very good at his job. Zero bad to say about him. But we did not enjoy the meal and we're not coming back. Service was amazing! Food was mediocre at best and that's only bc the fried wontons were just ok. Spicy wings tasted like ketchup wings. Not a salt or pepper shaker in sight. The best item on the menu was the coke. Sweet tea wasn't even sweet. They have real napkins which made me smile until I went to wipe my mouth and the rag smelled like the kitchen grease rag. Tip, extra washing powder, degreaser and dawn dish liquid will help but you need new napkins bc those are done. Ambience was nice and the waitress was top tier as reflected in 2 stars. read more

Food was meh, service was meh, I did order to go... so that could have been the biggest factor. I got the bento to go and it was... not the greatest. I liked the dumplings but the sushi was weird, the rice was either overcooked or undercooked and the texture was not the greatest.
