Suddenly, Darryl (who, by the way, seems like a decent guy just trying to do his job) informs me that their technician, Frankel, discovered my rear brake pads were allegedly on the brink of disaster, practically grinding metal-on-metal like a scene out of Mad Max. Cue dramatic music. According to Frankel, my brakes were in worse shape than my marriage. Now, here's the kicker: Just four weeks ago, I had my car thoroughly inspected at another shop with an A+ reputation. Their verdict? My rear brakes were in tip-top shape. But I thought, "Hey, let's play along." I feigned shock and horror, and asked, "Oh no, can I take a look myself?" I snapped some photos (attached here), which clearly show enough brake pad material to survive an apocalypse. When I told Darryl I'd have to hold off on this oh-so-crucial repair, they tried to quote me nearly $700 for a simple pad and rotor job on a Honda Accord. Look, I know inflation is a thing, but seriously? I've seen less expensive Taylor Swift tickets.
