Did not fix the problem at all but charged $289 + $200. and then gave a estimate to replace the whole water heater for $7000. And later we found a different plumber simply changed a very small part for less than $100. We usually do not complain but I have to say that I am extremely disappointed. read more

Premium Price Grumpy Service The plumber was late by 50 minutes. The plumber was grumpy, he did not say anything bad to me, but it is hard to miss. The sewer line was only 7 feet. But he charged more because he has to put the camera 6 feet higher..:( I called and the charge was removed. Our laundry room's utility sink was draining, but too slowly. Jay's was able to get someone out within a day. Danny came out and explained about the blockage, the age of our pipes, etc. He also created a trap in our weird cemented pipe. Unfortunately, his auger wasn't going through the pipe, so his manager Dean showed up the next morning. He was able to clear the blockage quite quickly and he made sure everything was flowing well and nothing was leaking and our pipe didn't have a hole or crack in it. In addition, Jay's charge a good price for the parts and labor. Pre-pandemic, we had another plumber come out and fix our bathroom, which was also plugged up. He fixed that pretty quickly and for a good price. I highly recommend Jay's. read more

This is an adjusted review after talking to the company. Initially, the quote presented to me was for triple the cost of a competitor. After my negative review, Jay's reached out, to their credit, to understand what they could have done better. There was miscommunication. However, their cost was still almost double that of what I paid elsewhere. They would sell me a new garbage disposal installed for $525. The same one sells at Home Depot for $109. Installation is not $400. If I bought the disposal on my own, they quoted me at $668 for installation and rodding out the drain. Stephens plumbing came and did it for $290. I ended up paying 1/2 the price that Jay's Plumbing wanted. I knew exactly what I would pay at Jays with a firm quote, which is more often a good thing. I took a chance with another company that had a 1/4 hour rate. In this case, it seemed clear that I could save money going somewhere else. read more

We recently experienced a leak in an old drain line for our kitchen sink. I contacted three different plumbing companies and only Jay's Plumbing could respond within a reasonable amount of time. In fact, Bob from Jay's arrived that afternoon. He inspected the problem, made three recommendations. We selected one and two days later he and a co-worker, Eric completed the job as scheduled and on time. They were courteous, professional and did a great job. Jay's dug up our basement and installed new pipes across our entire floor almost 6 months ago. One of the pipes was exposed behind a wall so I called inquiring about it this winter. In about a week's time our shower went from a small amount of water pressure to no pressure at all (read: no shower). To add insult to injury the faucet began to drip. We found Jay's through Yelp and gave them a call. Within the day the faucet was replaced and the pressure problem was diagnosed. Our "new" house had galvanized steel pipes coming into the shower so all the rust and gunk decided to take over. Everyone at Jay's was/is amiable and accommodating. As much as we wanted the work to be done quickly they wanted to get it done for me. Betsy worked with us to get someone in as quickly as possible. Jay came to look at the project to ensure the tech would have all the necessary supplies and within the next day the work was done - cleanly and efficiently. On this alone we would recommend Jay's, however it gets better. We were fully expecting to spend if not an arm and a leg than at least an arm. Not only did it come in right at the estimate it was a couple hundred dollars less than we had anticipated. Life being what it is we will no doubt have need for a plumber again. I have one major problem with Jays Plumbing.The positive point is the plumber was very experienced and professional.He explained that the job COULD be a problem and would take time to repair.The negative point is the time element.I was given an estimate of 600 dollars for the job.Again,this could be a problem.The plumber fixed the job in about two hours.He told me that it wasn't as bad as he thought.I was still charged the 600 dollars even thought it took less time than the estimate.The job required two valves and a trap.Bottom line.I paid the plumber about 175 dollars an hour for his services.If you want to pay a plumber 175 dollars an hour Jays plumbing is the place to go. read more

This place is a rip off. My water heater went out late one night; I called them the next day to replace it with a tight timeline as I was leaving on a trip. They came out promptly (which is why this is 2 stars), spent more than an hour "writing up a quote" with "six different options" THE CHEAPEST OF WHICH WAS $1750, and the most expensive was $5500!!!! I was absolutely stuck as I had a plane to catch, so I picked "the cheap option" -- which based on cost of water heater should have been a total of a $500 job -- and forked over the cash. Won't use again and absolutely do not recommend. Very expensive, and they even started off trying to tell us the most expensive way to fix the problem was the only way. Yet they were able to resolve the issue a different way for less money. But still very expensive. And they zip tied their business cards to nearly all of our pipes in the house. Really? Excellent job!! Recently, my sump pump went out during a major storm. Jay's came and installed it within the hour. However, an hour after they left the water was not being pumped out. I called and they came back right away. They took the pump apart and spent an hour trying to find out what was the problem. Well, they discovered it was not the pump but the water could not be pumped out into the sewer system because the city had closed it due to the storm. They redirected the water to my background and the pump was running like a charm. Not extra cost and we had great conversation about the Chicago Bulls. If you need a plumber call Jay's. read more

Jay's Plumbing is owned and operated by, you guessed it, Jay. He is a nice guy who was involved in our project from start to finish. His initial quote was attractively priced. We were adding a hot water heater, a mop sink, a double laundry sink and a washing machine. All of these items were near existing plumbing. The price for everything (except the washing machine itself) was a stich over $2000. Jay's guys had to jackhammer the floor to install drains. They had to do a considerable amount of copper work. Based on the cost of the materials alone, I would say that Jay's rates were unbeatable. It's been two years since the work and we've never had a problem with any of it. Since then we used Jay at our house as well. It was very refreshing to have the plumber show us how to fix the recurring clog, as opposed to needed to call him again and again when it clogs. Not too many service providers are in the business of showing you how to do it, and for that Jay earns 5 stars. read more

COMPLETE RIP OFF DO NOT USE. The ONLY reason they are getting any stars is you have to give them at least one. My 86 year old mothers sink was stopped up last weekend on July 3rd holiday weekend. Sure they came out right away. They were supposed to charge $59.99 to come out and look at the work according to the women on the telephone. The tech ended up charging $69.00 stating "I don't know where you got that from" referring to the $59.00 told to me by the women. NOW THE BAD PART: They gave three options for the repair and drain unclog. All of which were way over priced. We ended up paying over $1,300.00 for a Kitchen Sink rod out, about $75.00 in PVC piping and Sink Strainers for a Double Bowl Sink. All together, less that $100 in parts and almost 2 1/2 hours of time for $1,300!! They (Keith the plumber) knew with the holiday he could drastically up the price and that he did. HE CHARGED $310.00 JUST TO RODD OUT THE SINK WHICH TOOK LESS THAT 10 MINUTES. DO THE MATH, THESE GUYS CHARGE APPROXIMATELY $600 PER HOUR FOR LABOR, That is how it works out. I called their offices when my Mother told me how much they charged and after two days the manager called back and said, "they were given options and signed for the work to be done" I told him I referred them several times "and this is what you do?" The Manager could not care less and almost sounded to be laughing over the phone. He refused to make any sort of price adjustment. I do plan on seeking other avenues for their price gouging since they do not care about their customer base. IF YOU USE JAYS PLUMBING, YOU ARE SIMPLY NOT SMART. DO SO AT YOUR OWN PERIL. We called Jay's for a couple seemingly minor issues (kitchen sink leak, back hose had a leak), and not only did David K come early, diagnose that the issues were considerably more complex, explained all the options, but he did it with a smile, expertise, and charm. He spent the bulk of the day at my house, fixed everything and even taught me a couple tricks as to how to keep my disposal running well (and it wasn't an issue, it was just quality advice) and helped me move a piece of furniture i was trying to assemble. I called Jays Plumbing, the woman i spoke to on the phone said they could indeed perform the service i asked. I specifically told her what i needed to get done. I was very skeptical because of the high fee they recieve just for showing up. Which is $69!!! I was sure the service would be completed on the visit after speaking to the receptionist. The plumber did not do the the service, in fact he did nothing. He said he could not do what the receptionist i spoke to said he could do. So guess what ? $70 down the drain!! What a scam. Why dont you guys hire someone who actually knows what the service of the buisness are. Im sure many others are out of money because of this!! I received a phone call from my wife that Nicor shut our gas off because of a gas leak near our furnace. This was three days before Christmas and it was 20 degrees out. I quickly reached out to two plumbers and both gave me a song and dance that they didn't have the proper tools! So I called Jay's and Keith showed up. I showed him the leak and he looked me straight in the eyes and told me my gas will be on before midnight. I am very grateful that Keith showed up and after three hours of hard work Nicor was called and turned on the gas about 1130pm. Thank you Jays and Keith! Had them out today for a leak in my wall that feeds my outside garden hose - I could have done it myself if I wasn't 60 years old with bad knees - he didn't even open up the wall (there was an existing piece of drywall that had been replaced) didn't matter - the charge was between 353 and 470 and he didn't even open up the wall - I was upset about the charge and he said "he goes by the book - no charge like that in the book" I got tears in my eyes and said I was getting "f'd" and when I do it better feel good and I shouldn't have to pay that much for it - said he would call his manager and went to his work van - did not come back to my house - drove off - I did call the office and got the answering service - left a message - did get a call back but did not answer and probably will not will listen to the message - up to you - but I WILL NEVER CALL THEM AGAIN - read more

Very cagey -- require a non-refundable $69 visit to provide an estimate, even for a simple 1-hour task. When pressed, they claim they don't price by time & materials (oh yes you do!), but instead give you a "custom" quotation. This screams abusive pricing. I am extremely dissatisfied with this company's service. My kitchen sink became clogged. Over $300 later, I was told that the service was not guaranteed/warrantied and that the sink would drain but slowly because there was a lot of grease in the pipes. Clearly, the problem was not solved as the water continued to drain very, very slowly and the pipes still appeared to be clogged. I then went to Home Depot where I spent an additional $40 for a degreasing solution. It worked like a charm. I will never use this company again. I wouldn't recommend that anyone do so. read more

Very unreliable; definitely would not recommend. We received a referral for Jay's Plumbing to do an RPZ inspection which is required by State law. We contacted them last week and they said they would call back early this week to schedule an appointment. They never called back. So I've called them every day this week to set up an appointment and am told "I'll check the status and call back", or "we don't know when we'll be back out in Naperville (from Downers Grove)". They did not stand by their commitment last week to call this week to schedule an appointment, and this week they aren't interested in making an inspection call. So unless you have a month or two to wait, I definitely would not recommend Jay's Plumbing. Not professional at all. read more

We called Jay's in the morning on Friday, 10/31 after trying to fix our toilet which was leaking from the base since Wednesday of that week. The woman I spoke to was very nice. She offered to have someone come out that afternoon between 2-4. I told her we were expecting company and I'd prefer to put it off until Monday since we have other bathrooms that our guests could use. She then asked if I'd prefer someone come earlier than 2-4, like 12-2. I really appreciated her being so accommodating in getting our issue attention immediately, but I declined her offer and stuck to the Monday option. She said that was no problem! She asked me to text them a picture of the problem area (my husband had already taken the toilet off the bolts to assess) so they could be sure to bring the right tools for the job. Come Monday morning, Mike came to our house shortly after 8am. He quickly assessed the problem and gave me two options for fixing it. I told him we couldn't afford to do any major work at this time. We were concerned it was going to require replacing part of the sub-floor and ripping out the tile, etc. He assured us that the sub-floor looked good and gave us two options. The first option was more affordable and a temporary fix. He said if we had any plans to replace the tile then would be the perfect time to complete the other part of the temporary fix. I told him that was not in our plans, so he told me about the second option which was more expensive, but a more appropriate and non-temporary fix. I told him to go ahead and do that so we could have piece of mind that the issue wouldn't arise again in a few months, years, etc. He quoted the job as two hours and got to work. He worked diligently and got it done in an hour and a half which saved us some $. The toilet has been working great since. No leaks to speak of, and there's a year long warranty on their work just in case. This is the second time we've had Jay's come to our house for different jobs. We've been more than pleased both times! I don't hesitate to recommend Jay's for their excellent work, professionalism and courtesy! I would certainly call them again with any new issues...but, hopefully not anytime soon. :) read more
