To my surprise he was able to schedule me same day--like I was his favorite uncle or something. Yesterday I had an emergency need for a plumber- our garbage disposer's motor had burned out and water was collecting in the sink every time we would turn the faucet on, so I called the company we have used for over 10 years for help. Unfortunately they could not come for 5 more days but they did suggest that I call Stephens Plumbing for help. What a wonderful experience!!! The plumber was able to come within 2 hours, replacing the disposer quickly after finding the problem with the motor. I have read a review that was negative about a clogged drain. They paid 375 or something. And were unhappy about having to call someone else to finally fix it . I had a family friend who spent 10 hours with two people trying to unclog from the house to the street. We had a caregiver for an elderly person who didn't understand large wipes don't go in the toilet. The first charge was like $1,000 And the rodded out 10-5 gallons of wipes. .it was still running slow and they came back and spent another 10 hours for 2 people to keep rodding out the sewer until they went to the street and heard it was running freely. You got of lightly. If these family friends had not kept trying to get past the roots if the tree in the yard it would have required digging up the whole yard and relaying the whole sewer. All I mean to say is you may have been disappointed by a less than $400 bill for rodding out a sewer but it can be a tough job. Next subject. I have used Stephens Plumbing for over 30 years in Downers Grove. Yes they are a premium plumbing company. But, they has e always backed their work. They lived in the neighborhood and their kids played all the sports etc. If you were unhappy then you should have brought it up to the owner. I like to have everything go smooth but the true judge I use for a service company is how they handle an unhappy costumer. I have always been holy with them and ik is if you brought it up to Matt who was the owner when I dealt with them, he would have taken care of the problem. I have never heard of a dissatisfied costumer that didn't get their problem resolved. It is a fair and responsible company. Give them a chance to resolve the problem. Our sub pump was stuck on, so I called Stephens the first thing in the morning. I spoke with Kevin & he explained thoroughly what he thought what the problem was. I don't need to get into the "how" or the "why" around a 10 week disaster of getting our washer and dryer delivered from another vendor. That's not the important part. The important part was that we needed someone to install these appliances because we no longer had faith in the original company to install a new exhaust pipe for the dryer and then hook up the new equipment. Brian was our technician and they showed up on time and were very professional, courteous, knowledgable, and got right to work. They told me what would happen, what to expect, and alerted me to a few potential things that COULD go wrong (they didn't, but they wanted there to be no surprises). Beyond that, they knew exactly how to handle the exhaust install that the previous owners ruined (if you're going to do-it-yourself, please, do it right...). This company was so fast to respond to the initial request and they also were able to reschedule when one of our 4 deliveries was thwarted due to a damaged appliance. Stephens plumbing is fair and reasonable. They came out quickly and did the job for less than half the cost Jay's Plumbing wanted. Additionally, their products are far more fairly priced. Where Jay's wanted five times the cost for a garbage disposal sold at Home Depot, Stephens was only $50 more. And they were happy to let me buy it from Home Depot and still install it. Don installed it and rodded out my drain in less time than was originally suggested, saving me on labor. He also was able to fix a couple of things that needed to be done in that time. I called only to find out that while we were told it would last 3-5 years, THEY ONLY WARRANTEE THEIR WORK FOR 30 DAYS! Very disappointed in the company. The posters who commented on the front desk woman were spot on. Nothing has changed in that dept. She is rude, dismissive, talks over you and generally acts like you're annoying her and she's doing you a big favor to even take your call. Her personality is somewhere between disgruntled lunch lady and tow truck company receptionist. Must be a relative of the owner. Anyone else would have been bounced ages ago. That coupled with the fact I couldn't get a call back about scheduling an install because they just plain forgot about me made me take my business where it may be appreciated. About 14 months ago, we had this company come out as water was coming up from out floor drain in the laundry room. The plumber who came out was very nice and worked very hard to find the problem. He rodded out the main line through the cleanout, easily accessed in the garage. He said his repair should easily last us 3-5 YEARS, Well, 14 months later and it's happening again. I called the company only to find out that while our plumber said his repair would last a few years, THE COMPANY ONLY WARRANTIES THEIR WORK FOR 30 DAYS! Out of principle, I will NOT have them back, only to possibly go through this AGAIN next year! I cannot, in good conscience, pay them to "try to" fix it again for another $375 now, and possibly again next year!!! Never had this problem with ABC, so they'll come out to correct this companies shoddy work. read more

I live in a 2nd floor condo. Leaks can really cause problems for the unit below to say nothing of strained relations. Gas hot water heater started leaking, called Stephens at 10 a.m. and by 3 p.m. had a new heater installed. Ryan and Kevin were very courteous, professional and cleaned up afterward.
