Server was a sweet girl, but not a great waitress. It took a long time for our food. The guys ordered porterhouses, medium rare. They FINALLY came to the table after we complained twice to out server that it was taking a long time. The steaks were thin, gristley, and cooked medium well to well done. The waitress told us she let the manager know we were not happy, but the manager never came to our table or offer a discount. We will NEVER go back and will not recommend to anyone. read more

Very good food in a scenic setting on the river. When you first look at the menu you might think you are just going to get regular bar food- but this is much better than that. Have had nearly everything on the menu and it has all been very good. Great ribs. Fish taco special is outstanding and should be a regular choice. Smashed potatoes are very good. Excellent fried chicken (but it takes a few extra minutes.) Steaks are good, too. The place itself is nothing fancy but Jody is a great 'hands-on' owner with a good staff - and she wants to know if anything is not right. A gem in an out of the way location. read more

We LOVE Jaywalker!!! Fantastic service, whether you're at the bar or a table, fantastic view and some of the best food in Michigan. Pulled pork sandwich is my personal fave. What a great place to eat! Great atmosphere and has choices for all of those picky people in your life. We Called ahead and got a reservation for Saturday night. This place was terrible. We waited an hour and never got seated. It looks like unless you are a town local you are pretty much a nobody. The staff was like avoiding us as we were trying to understand why other groups of 6 that did not have reservations were being sat before us. We will NEVER go again. We stopped here today (Sunday 8/30/15) around 2:00pm to get a bite and take a break from the road trip. As others have said, the view is outstanding. We even saw and eagle cruising the river! The food, on the other hand, was horrible. I ordered the french dip and a cup of coffee. The server brought the coffee quick enough, but had to make two more trips for the creamer and a spoon. The coffee was old. 4 creamers did nothing but change the color to grey, and the creamer was old enough I had cream floaties in the coffee. Bad coffee, very bad coffee and acidic. The food came fairly fast and was hot but the first bite was ALL fat. I opened the sandwich and started trimming fat from the meat, but when the pile of fat became greater than the pile of meat from just half the sandwich I gave up and sent the entire order back. I settled for a handful of Tums and a bottle of water (from the car). Karen's turkey wrap was: "OK but not great. Not bad, just meh." Bottom line: The service was at best so so, the french dip was disgusting, and the prices were very high. We will not be stopping here again. Ever. read more

Great place on the river! Versatile menu and an added bonus that if you don't see something on the menu, just ask and they'll see what they can do. One of the people with me customized her salad creating an entirely different item than what was on the menu. We were seated by the windows and loved getting to watch the water. We have given the Jaywalker a B or B+ rating after several visits. The potato encrusted whitefish passed with flying colors. I had two baskets - the shrimp and fish, which looked like perch. Both were just fine. (I needed to order a take-out.) We ordered walleye and the prime rib on a previous visit. No problems with either. I once had their fried chicken and would order it again without hesitation. As you can see I don't reach into superlatives. This is an honest review. And, yes, the carpeting is a bit old and the place will need a renovation at some point. The view of the St. Joseph River rolling past and under the historic Mottville Bridge adds to a pleasant evening. read more

Came here today specifically for the Prime Rib. It was just ok today. Ordered the large portion medium, it was more like medium well. The waitress was not even sure about serving it...I didn't send it back, but I have had it better here. Good flavor, good au jus, good salad. When I asked if they had a house dressing, Jessica said Ranch. I usually opt for a viniagrette, but this Ranch was really good. The other option is homemade cole-slaw - it was a hit! My companions ordered whitefish - one cajun, one lemon pepper and one pesto salmon. They were all happy with their choices. What made the day was our waitress, Jessica. Fast, efficient & friendly. Excellent service, terrible food. The kitchen is incapable of timing and let's the food rest for up to an hour while they wait for other things to finish. If you're by yourself I'm sure the food will be hot but as a group only the fried chicken was hot. My steak was cooked medium-well but I ordered it medium-rare and our fish was cold. The server was very understanding but I would never patron the restaurant again. I also received crusty silverware that had been poorly washed. Worst tacos i didnt eat any of them. I ordered hard and soft and got tacos that had so much grease in them that by the. Time i walked across the street to my house the hard were softer than the soft and the soft turned into mush. This is the second time i have tried to eat there and this was as bad as it gets. As far as i can tell a back room restaurant would be better than the overpriced food as they call it. I had a very good grouper sandwich there just after 11 am opening. A wonderful view of the St Joe River. For fans of the history of US highways you look out on the 1920s "camelback" bridge that served US12 until a newer bridge was built. You can walk across the bridge, enjoy the view, take pictures. We were a little worried due to the other reviews we read but there isn't much open on Sunday around here. However the food was excellent and ample, the service very friendly. We had a seat overlooking the river and could have been seated outside if we wished. I had the roast beef and it was way bigger than the 12 ounces advertised and cooked to perfection. The coffee cup was large and bottomless. We skipped dessert because we were stuffed. This was a very pleasant surprise. read more

My husband and I have eaten here before but today the service and food was horrible. The waitress was slow getting our order and the restaurant was not busy al all. No personality and her t-shirt was dirty. Appetizer was not hot. We waited 40 minutes for a salad and pulled pork sandwich in a almost empty restaurant. The grilled chicken salad was sub par to say the least. Pre-grill marks and cold chicken probably just taken out of frig. Was never asked for another drink. When I told waitress it was not good, and I did not eat it, noting taken off bill. We had enjoyed stopping there on our way back from Michigan but will never do that again. I've had lunch several times now at the Jaywalker. I like all of their burgers, even the veggie burger is quite good. Perhaps the best feature of the restaurant is the location... right on the river. The struggle is real. Had a 7:30pm reservation for 10 people and were greeted and asked for drink orders in a somewhat timely manner. That's where the good part ends. We waited a very long time for our drinks and the one appetizer we ordered. Minus the two fruit flies that greeted me in my sauv blanc and the dirty wine glasses my family encountered, we proceeded to have faith that the previous reviews would hold true. After waiting for what seemed long enough to allow my 10 yr old to use my phone to learn about the birds and the bees, the waitress arrived. Hold your applause. She was only there to serve the table their meals and announce the three filets we ordered were over-cooked and it would be seven minutes to cook new steaks. Seriously? Who does this? All other members of our party ate their food and we waited ...and waited...and waited for new steaks. In the meantime we filled up on our side dishes and were not hungry by the time the new steaks arrived. When the new steaks arrived, one was still overcooked. The waitress had no personality, was not accommodating and it was not busy in the restaurant at this time. We spoke to a couple of regular patrons who were appalled at the treatment we received and advised that the service is MUCH better on evenings when the owner is in the restaurant.
