Ew. That's how I'd sum up their Comedy Nights. Super offensive, unfunny comics being heckled by equally offensive, unfunny drunks. They don't stop serving people when they're wasted and the food is mediocre. The only fun time I've had there was when there was a band of middle school aged kids playing classic rock style riffs and even that was awkward because there were a bunch of drunk old weirdos hanging out watching. Having been to New Orleans twice, I can't be fooled by what a lot of restaurants try to pass off as Southern food. Seriously, no one is going looking for Cajun food at Ruby Tuesday. Jazzbones, however, got it right. Their andouille sausage stuffed chicken, served with fresh vegetables and dirty rice, was amazing, worthy of five stars. So imagine my disappointment to find out that they have sold out to be just another Red Robin-like establishment with chicken sandwiches and French dip sandwiches. A real letdown. We got invited by a friend whose band was playing. It was nice. The bartender was awesome. Really sweet guy, cannot remember his name... The atmosphere was really thrumming, drawing you into what a Nightclub/Restaurant is supposed to be like. And though crowded, I felt like I was a valued customer, even if it was my first time. I plan on coming back when I see a band or two that I like on the list for entertaining. But I do know when I walk by it at night that the music is awesome to bob my head to on the way to my apartment. read more

Expect to get your own drinks, and YOU must ask (demand) a menu. The sushi bar has hit's and failures. YOU must go to the asian guy and place your order. When YOU finally get served after a forever wait at the bar make sure YOU order TWO drinks. The hostess is happy, the other staff has a real "who gives a rats ass attitude". Get TWO more drinks. After going over some of the other reviews I'm kinda confused. People really love it or really hate it it seems. Well I'm OK with this place. The sushi bar was open for tonights show but I got some chicken strips and some tacos and they were great. The chicken was real chicken and the tacos had some guac on them. The fries were soooo crispy. I didn't think I was that hungry but I finished my pate. The Asian guy bartender down stairs for the night made all out drinks for the night and we kinda let him have free creativity for it. I prefer sweet drinking and he was pretty spot on each time. The show was sold out so by 10 it was packed. A full mosh for the slaw show of Less Than Jake and it was great for them. Up close and personal with an awesome band. Yeah it was hot a balls(sorry for that but if you were there you'd get it) to the point we actually had to wring out my bfs shirt before replacing it with a spare in the car. Literally drenched. I was hot at the front of the house but not at bad. I like this place as a small venue to see good bands. I'd go again if another band I like comes to play there read more

Thursday night is Ladies Night and my girls and I got in free. Place is poppin but they need to take out some of those tables nobody is using to make room for all the people trying to dance! The dance floor was so crowded we only got in there a couple times before we gave up. The drinks were good too but we ended up leaving earlier than we wanted bc there was just no room. Worst staff ever. Go to the bathroom and go into the stall. Someone had been smoking in there prior and security opens the stall door without knocking while I was in there. Dragged me out and kicked me out of the venue and wouldn't let me back in until I gave him another $40 after I bought tickets for a sold out show. read more

The building acoustics suck so the speakers should not be set so loud. It was like listening to too much bass in a raggedy car. Ya'll need to work on that. Worse yet, if a local act plays & the crowd is falling asleep or standing & staring at them in disbelief, you should probably take them off the stage (not mentioning any names ALMOND ROCA). We made the trip out on a Sunday night for a Blues competition (which is hard for the hubby because Monday is a work day, of course). We loved the music, but the service here was definitely non-existent. There was a great crowd there for the music, but I only saw two waitresses and only one most of the night. How slow was the service, you ask? Well, it was so slow that after we ordered our food and it finally arrived and we ate it, our waitress came by and asked "Did you get your food yet?" I am hoping she was trying to give her patrons great service, but limited by being understaffed! The funny thing was that as we were eating (and not yet finished), the burly security staff stopped by and asked if we were ready to have our plate taken away. We answered no and thought after waiting so long, we weren't going to give up our food until the last morsel was licked from the plate. That being said, the food was actually decent, just poor service. Unbelievably great music, mediocre food, lousy service and great company. Don't know if that qualifies for a return trip. I live right in the neighborhood, less than two blocks over and visit JB on a blue moon. The reason why is they have the absolute worst service in Tacoma. I've never been to a restaurant/bar that seems like it goes out of it's way to higher the worst staff that is available. Price is average and they do have some fun events, like Rockaoke on Monday nights, but with service like this I'll never become a regular visitor to JB. read more

The last time I was in Jazzbones has to be pushing 5 years ago. I think at that time I would have given it a two star rating, the food was not good back then, but the sound for live music was. I stopped going because they pretty much stopped having live music. But that have brought back the live music, so we made the trip. I'd like to give them more stars but they aren't there yet. Honestly it would be a 3 star rating if it weren't for the hostess who went out of her way to switch us to a table that was more appropriate for my partner who had just had surgery a very weeks ago and really couldn't be in the taller chairs. I don't recall her name but she is a really Jem! Pros: Sound system is great and the band was mixed very well. All 3 of us had burgers, and we each really enjoyed them. There iced tea was a little different but I really enjoyed it! Prices were resonable There is a balcony if your into that, we prefer and was seated on the main floor. Hostess was very helpful in accommodating our needs, to which I am very grateful if it wasn't for her switching our seats we would not have had as good of time or been as comfortable. Was in about the same condition it was 5 years which is well worn but functional. Cons: The sight lines as in from the tables to the stage is not the best. If your in front of the stage you will be craning your neck all night long. Seats by the bar will have limited view of the stage. I remember street parking being an issue in the past though we scored a good spot this time. Restrooms at least the mens room went down hill all night long, someone really needs to go in there partway though the evening to keep it from becoming so nasty. Over I would say that it was a good experience and better than I had expected it to be. I was a little bit concerned about bringing my partner there for her birthday, but as it turned out it was a good birthday evening, full of good food and good times with guys in the band we have known for so many years now. If you're looking for a crowded, loud place full of drunk 20-somethings with non-existant serivce (even at the bar) and are willing to pay for the privilege of being there, this is the place for you on Friday nights. Jazzbones is a fun place to go if you enjoy to listen to something other then your typical "club" music. Depending on the night you can hear anything from jazz to rockabilly. The servers are very attentive and you are hardly ever without a beverage! They also have a pretty good food selection here as well. On my most recent visit my friends ordered everything from a chicken sandwich to sushi to loaded waffle fries. I had the calamari which was cut in long strips. It was very good! Super tender and fresh. Great fun to be had here I would recommend it! read more

Have to agree with other reviews that I read prior to going. The service was far from adequate. One needed to order as many drinks as they could carry. Took forever to get the chicken wings which I ordered. Then they came out cold. Was not impressed with the seasoning. Forced myself to finish what had been served. Would recommend eating elsewhere prior to going. The sound system was better than your neighborhood garage band. Not much better mind you. It was terribly hard to hear the vocals. They came across as muffled and had a warble to them. The tribute band themselves were awesome. The saving point to the night. Don't know if I will return. Been there, done that. read more

If you go here, make it a Monday for rockaraoke, or Thursday for ladies night. If you love karaoke, you'll fall in love with rockaraoke...even if you can't sing. The few drinks we got were actually pretty good. This place just gets crowded and might of just been that night but the Dj was horrible. The Dj replayed tons of songs and seemed to have the attention span of a 5 year old with songs. I went to Jazzbones to see the Paperboys a while back but ended up loving the food and atmosphere. I have been back a couple times since and have enjoyed the place. This place sucks on so many levels, it's hard to know where to start. Reserving tables for more than four persons is an exercise in futility; their online reservations system is a joke. The wait staff, while pleasant, seems to be overwhelmed by anything greater than half capacity. It feels like a lifetime before anyone comes around to take your drink (too strong)/food (mediocre at best) orders, and then another one before you get them. Oh, and if you do decide to visit, out of morbid curiosity or whatever, do NOT take a table at first-floor level anywhere near the perimeter of the upstairs area. You will be the target of spilled drinks, vomit, etc. Lastly, the crowd is pretty okay...until around 10:00-ish...then it turns fratboy/ghetto/douche in a hurry. read more

I've been here once. It was about a year ago. I went with my husband on a weekday we got there at six an sat down at the bar. We were served well all night and our drinks refilled when we asked. When we asked for a food menue we got one promptly and the loaded tater tots are BOMB. Never had a problem with this place. It was crowded and busy, but fun. There tonight, while dancing the waiter who was a toolshed took my drink. Previously they took my empty wine glass while waiting the standard 20 plus minutes for a drink and over an hour for our food. The manager told me I could only have a plastic glass because they were over capacity, (not our problem as we bought our tickets a month ago and it was the glass I started with) what does that have to do with a glass wine glass verses a plastic cup. We were one of the first people at the door. Our bill was over $100. Very unhappy. Really you have that many people bowing down to grace your doorstep Terry that you can treat people that way. We were there before the band started on a Tuesday. Parking is problematic. Few people, band in LOUD warm up mode. Conversation was impossible. Really do love coming here, I usually have a great time. What I don't like is paying a cover charge for a band that's supposed to play till midnight and call it quits at 11! AND AND!!!
