Will never be back to this place. We were here a week ago Sunday following a great Downtown Tacoma Block Party Event. We walked in 15 people deep and the staff was MORE THAN accommodating. They moved tables for us without hesitation. Today, completely different story. We walked in the door at 8:50pm on a Friday and immediately received glares from every single person on shift. We asked if two tables could be pushed together to accommodate 10 people and were immediately told that the owner does not allow tables to be moved together. We found a spot on the patio that could an accommodate all us and were promptly greeted by a VERY rude bartender that told us that we could not move chairs and that it was a strict policy of the bar owner that chairs could not be moved even though they were empty. We promptly left. Sorry, get a grip. If you don't want to work find a new job. Tacoma businesses are closing every single week. It's sad. I love that the restaurant is located near the dock. The entrance to the restaurant was a little questionable as it was not well lit, other than that, I was able to navigate through. Being a dog mama is of importance to me on how I spend my days now. Rock the dock has been very accommodating to my "mean" looking AMERICAN BULLIES... the staff aren't intimidated at all. Service is fantastic! Clean water bowls and deck. And our go to is fried mushrooms to start and normally a mushroom burger for me. Came in with family for a birthday lunch and everything was perfect. The food was great, as was the service. They set up a large section of the bar for us to sit and they allowed us to eat, drink, and be merry the whole time we were there. The staff was quick and friendly so that's nice. However, the food was entirely mid. The chowder had decent flavor but was a couple degrees warmer than room temp, and the "garlic bread" that came with it was lame. They were out of bread bowls which was disappointing but that's just how it goes sometimes. The overall environment was just your classic grimy dive bar feel with more tv than wall, except it smelled like bleach. Seat yourself and if you start inside and want to go outside you need to close out your ticket. Happy hour is 3-7 Monday-Friday and the portions were still decent size. I got pretzel bites, Caesar salad and the boom boom shrimp wrap. Kitchen got behind by the time I placed my order for the wrap so it was as at least 20 min for it. All food had flavor and was hot and fresh with the exception of the cheese for the pretzel bites. It was lumpy and never smooth. I struggled between 3 and 4 stars for this review. I decided on 4 because I am rating it for what it is. A sports bar. It's actually quite a nice sports bar. I haven't been to this location in 20 years or so and it was Dock Street back then. It looks so much nicer now. It's actually quite nice. They have a giant menu, that also includes a brunch menu for the weekends. Our server was the nicest guy. I think his name was Alex. The drinks were good and they had a great happy hour from 4:00 to 7:00 weekdays. They also had some happy hour food, so we tried the tempera zucchini. It was a little watery, but it wasn't oily, so I would probably order it again. The music was fun, it wasn't overly crowded, everyone was very chill, it was nicely air conditioned, but not freezing, and they had patio seating open. The best part of our meal - Our server was great! She was prompt and attentive. We came from the clam chowder and we were very disappointed - only a few clams and it tasted like cream and potatoes. Food-we both had the Crab and shrimp Louie and a glass of the house pinot. Both were very good. We ate on the deck with our long haired mini doxie Guinness. Wow! The food here is very lackluster. The "prawns" of the shrimp cocktail are not as big as all of the other places. Worst yet you only get two. Both the steamed clams and clam chowder are just meh. With only a few people in the restaurant the service was almost nonexistent. Where the waitress would miss people when taking orders and forget simple little things. We just visited The Dock tonight! It is our go to bar and we love everyone of their servers and bartenders. The staff is very professional and follow the guidelines set before them by the owner. Unfortunately, you sometimes get a customer like J. M., who posted recently. He is obviously an entitled jerk, who did not feel like he needed to follow the rules of the bar. So he had a temper tantrum, left a two star review, and trashed all of the employees... and because of his hissy fit, he ordered nothing. We, as loyal customers, hope he won't frequent the bar again and abuse the staff. Keep up the great work Dock employees! read more
