The staff was friendly and although the place was really busy we got seated fairly quickly, only about a 15 minute wait. I got the migas, the portion size was good but it was really under seasoned. I added peeper and salt, and normally I never add salt. My husband had the Heuvos Ranchero. It ended up being scrambled eggs on a corn tortilla. There was no cheese and definitely no sauce, none. We ate here for brunch on a busy Tuesday afternoon - it's such a legacy with locals and always dependable when you're not in the mood for frou-frou food or unusual ingredients. If T&C were housed in a diner it would fit perfectly. The place is only open until 2:30 each day but it's always busy. Luckily we were seated, given menus and gave our drink orders. The menu is huge containing not only breakfast items but Mexican food, steaks, chicken, salads, desserts and many side items. We ordered a pecan waffle with sausage and bacon and a chicken fried steak platter with salad, two sides and a roll. When the food came it was enough for four people easily! We could not finish the huge waffle or the huge steak, and with the large side portions we couldn't finish those either. The steak was delicious, crispy on the outside and fork-tender. The waffle was studded with tons of pecans and the waitress brought butter and syrup in squeeze bottles! Everything was piping hot and delicious. WE ARE DONE! Through all the ownership changes since the 1970's we have remained loyal customers. We have overlooked the mistakes, the burnt food, the forgotten items / wrong food on our orders, especially the to go orders. We respect the past, we honor the wait staff that still tries their best, but no more. Today ends it. We will never go back. Never. This was the last to go order that we had to take back. 5 stars all around. Stopped by while in Corpus for the weekend and no regrets. Lots of places did not open until later so we came here which is nice when you want to get an early start. Stopped in for brunch, the table order the pancake sandwich plate ( it's not a sandwich which I thought was a cool idea) & the 2 egg plate. Was offered lunch at T&C, after a small wait which was underatandable as i only seen a hand full of waitresses handling all the full tables in the restaurant my drink order was taken which included a arnold palmer n a glass of water. I only recieved a glass of water...after i reminded waitress of my primary drink she appologised n brought my drink... i ordered the ruben sandich and my other colleague ordered a chicken fried steak... our food arrived and my colleague noted that my sandwich normally comes w thousand island. I ask for some n it was brought with the comment "well you didnt ask for any" it was my first time there, after eating a few bites of my first half of my sandwich i noticed something off the side of my other half of my sandwich which i presumed was cheese but on further lookin at it it was a hair, we asked the waitress if ahe could bring only the other half of the sandwich which i was met w a face and the comment "well what do you want" I WANT IT MADE WITH OUT HAIR i replied... a second sandwich was brought. We finished our meal and left. Later that night i was speaking w my colleague about the day's activities and she boted that all shes eaten all day was her chicken fried steak and she had developed severe stomach cramps later in the day.. the following morning my colleague was not at work. I contacted her and she informed me her stomach pains were so severe she went to the hospital and was diagnosed with food poisoning. We/I and the people i associate with will not be returning due to service and food quality. I did have high hopes and i can understand certain things occure but this expirence was not the best and left a bad mark for me when it comes to the reatraunts quality and service. I eat at T&C a couple of times a week. (Usually 5 star) This past Tuesday I arrived at 9 am and was told there would be a 5 min wait. With 2 empty tables in view. After 10 more minutes 7-8 more customers, I asked if I could be seated (now 6 empty tables) I was told by the hostess the manager told her not to seat any more customers as the kitchen was backed up. I said so you would rather me wait standing rather than wait seated. She said she was just a hostess and did not want to get in trouble. Customer Service this day was non-existent. I've lived in corpus for a long time, T&C has been consistently good! It was my grandpa's favorite restaurant, and it set the precedent for my standard for diner food. Excellent value. Great portions. Yummy food!!! I couldn't believe I could get eggs Benedict for less than $10! (I didn't see it on the menu but saw severa yelpers had ordered it. I'm not sure if it's only served some days of the week or is usually just a special or what.) I ordered my husband the "chicken fried steak & eggs", and I stole some bites - it was so good! As a proud native Texan, I consider myself to have a pretty advanced chicken fried steak palate (totally being silly when I say this). Honestly though, I do love chicken fried steak, and while I don't allow myself to eat it often, the bar is set pretty high for me to say one is wonderful. And this was wonderful. It makes me ashamed what some places try to pass off as the Texas delicacy. This chicken fried steak made me feel proud. The breading was flavorful and the consistency of the breading was almost akin to Chick-fil-A's breading when they get it just right (I mean that as a high compliment. Their breading has a magical texture in my book). And while I only stole a few bites, my bites of steak were tender and hearty. (Not flattened so thin that you think you're eating breading with no meat in the middle, and when you do get a bite, it's all gristle. Nope not this time!) Maybe the most impressive part was that I ordered everything to-go, and the way they packaged it all, it was totally hot and fresh and not soggy at all when I got home. (I was worried I was taking some chances transporting eggs and fried and saucy foods!) Even my poached eggs traveled perfectly, and the Hollandaise sauce was still perfect too!!! While the wait staff and breakfast service were satisfactory, it was disappointing to see the overall condition of the restaurant. Floors that were grimey, torn chairs and bench seating, handwritten paper signs taped to the door, missing overhead lights.
