The new central area for returns & exchanges, .com pickups, and checkout is a major cluster disaster. At 2:30 on a Thursday, I spent 15+ minutes on line to return store items. There were so many people on all the cordoned off lines but things were at a standstill due to untrained associates, IT issues, numerous complicated returns requiring 10 minutes to process after finding managers, etc. I had a pickup, too, with another huge line. All to find out the item was sent back after I had specifically called and asked for, and was assured of, an extension to the standard pickup period. I saw some merchandise I was going to shop after this, but I made a beeline for the exit. Truly miserable experience, reminiscent of the DMV. If this is part of the new, improved Penney's, they are far off the mark. read more

I placed an online order 6 days ago that I've been charged for but has not shipped yet. I was told by online customer service to contact the store to cancel. I call the store and they cannot cancel because they haven't received the order yet. Online says they cannot cancel an order unless it's within 30 minutes of ordering. I have never had such a horrible shopping experience with any retailer. It took me 2 days and 8 attempts to get a person on the phone at this location. I was told I'd receive a call back, which never happened. Most places will accommodate your customers requests. I will never place an online order with this company again and I will not let any of my friends or family do so either. It's service like this that leads to why a company fails. Maybe they should have more concern about their customers needs! read more

I just went today to buy my Christmas presents and I was trying to use a coupon and the gentleman that cash me out didn't even help me. I came home and I found my paper coupon and I called the store and Christina told me I was able to go back and use it. So I went back to Stonebriar Mall and in returns there was Christina and she help me save more. Thank you. There are only few people that will help you out and she is one of them. Ordered online at jcpenney.com for pick up today and it ended up being a huge pain to get the item. So, I buy the product, afterwards I read it will be available for pick up same day (as long as you order it online before 3pm, which I did.) I saw that it also mentioned that they would email me when it was ready. I looked at my clock around 5pm, knew they closed at 6pm, and checked my email inbox, no email from them. Since it was about to close and still no email I decided to go in and see about picking up the item. I went to the .com pick up area and gave them my info, and they told me they saw it processed but my order hadn't been picked out or scanned into the system in time. (They said they just hired a new person that was supposed to pick out my item by a certain time frame but didn't get it done.) So now, I've paid for my item beforehand, but can't pick it up because no one scanned it in, which is not my fault. So I ask, can someone grab the item I need in the store currently? I was told no, the new guy needs to do that and the time frame had passed. I then asked can I go get the item myself and get it? She said yes but i would need to cancel my online order payment and repay for the item there, which confused me. Apparently the item needed to match the pick up barcode in the system along with payment. I went ahead and found the product and got another employee to find it for me and bring it back up. I tried to see if I could take the product I found and not have to cancel my payment but they wouldn't let me. At first they left me at the counter to find a scanner to scan it. Then they left to see if they could find the possibly misplaced product I had already bought. Couldn't find it, then came back,scanned the product I found in store,to say they needed to wait 30 mins OR NEXT DAY for it to process in the system for me to get it. Even though I purchased it within the same day window and I had already been there awhile waiting. The product was there, they scanned it in, I had already paid..there wasn't any reason why I couldn't get it. We tried asking for a manager to help us, but they refused. Finally we mentioned we didn't need a receipt. Then they let us take it. ‍‍ HUGE pain. Do not order online pickup. Never again. Do better jcpenney!!! read more

If this store could get it together... that'd be great. I don't really ever shop here, and I found out why. The reason is simple, it sucks! So about a year ago, I ordered some towels online for in-store pick up. 5 bath towels, 5 hand towels and 5 washcloths. I got an email that my order was ready. I go to pick it up.. and what happened next is just nuts. The employee disappears forever, saying she was going to go pick up my order. She comes back with a package that contained... 2 of my WASHCLOTHS! Yep.. that's it. What the heck? How random and uncool is that? She said the rest wasn't in yet, which is NOT what my email said. Time goes on & I never get another email saying the rest of it was in.. so I go back in there. This time a guy.. disappears forever again to go look for my order. He brings a larger bag this time, which has the majority of my stuff, but missing 1 bath towel. He insisted and insisted that I already picked it up, which did not happen. After too many corporate phone calls and manager conversations.. I gave up. I still don't have my 1 bath towel I ordered. I guess they can keep my money.. seeing as how they are doing lately, sounds like they need it more than I do. Now, onto yesterday's JCP fail! I know..you are probably wondering why I would come back in here after that, but I was emailed a $10 off of $10 coupon. That means I could get something for practically free if it was $10. I'm not going to pass up a freebie, so into JCP I went. I picked out a couple articles of nice, reasonably priced clothing, starting to wonder if I made a mistake washing my hands of them. That's when I went to check out, and realized I made no such mistake. I went to check out with Yelena, an associate working upstairs in the home goods section. Actually..near the bath towels..just saying. I place my selections on the counter along with my coupon. Yelena does not touch anything and says my coupon is fake and cannot accept it. WHAT! Is this woman accusing me of trying to pass a fake coupon? Because of her age, I didn't want to be disrespectful.. so I proceed to explain to her that it was emailed to me and that I'd like to use it. She then told me that she will not accept it, that I can try another sales associate and that she doesn't want any trouble. What the hell? She's now refusing to work, trying to push her work off onto someone else, and insinuating that I'm going to cause trouble. So of course, I asked her to summon the manager. Manager Heather came and after hearing the situation.. she instructed Yelena that she needs to accept it, as IT IS one of their coupons. Yelena tried to explain her case, but Heather wasn't having it. Yelena rang me up so fast and made no apologies or offered a "thank you". Heather walked me out and told me she would speak with her and that she was completely in the wrong. Offered an apology and told me to ask for her if I ever have an issue again. I appreciate Heather's kindness and problem solving actions, but I will never step foot in this place again. Even if they came out with a $100 off of $100 coupon. ;-) read more

This store has some definite training & customer service issues. I purchased four LPG Golf shirts this morning and paid at the register with the employee, "Joel". I arrived home & saw that "Joel" failed to remove the security clip from one of the shirts. Drove back to the store, 18 miles, and "Joel" had another employee remove the security clip ...no apology, no Mia Culpa, ...nothing other than, "Okay it is off now". I called their, " Customer We Don't Care" department on my way home & was advised all they could do was note my JC Penney Platinum account regarding the issue & for me to drive back to the store AGAIN and speak with the store manager. I turned around, went back to the store and spoke with the manager. She apologized for the "inconvenience". This entire experience proved that they need Customer Service Training, Customer Retention Training, Empathy Training, and a much better Anti-Shoplifting security system ...their security system and customer experience process both failed miserably. read more

First they told me I would receive the rest by Friday, when I checked the status of the order it was returned to a store in CA. I live in TX. If you haven't been to a JCP since they've revamped, you SO need to get in here. Back in the day when I attempted to shop here, the clothing was affordable, yet cheap LOOKING. And even sort of grandma-ish. These days their clothing is still super affordable, yet looks really nice. (Any maybe I dress like a granny now, who knows?) Their shoe dept. is bigger/better and they also have cute accessories! The best part for SURE is the home department. They've got modern bedding, and lots of great home decor -- even a line by Martha Stewart. JCP has always been good on window treatments, but even that department has gotten better! I'm a Sephora VIB, so I sort of love that I can shop Sephora inside JCP and not have to venture out into the mall if I'm short on time. If you haven't been here, you serrrrrrrrrrrrriously need to check it out. read more

I want to give an amazing shout out to Michael H in the men's section who helped me and my boyfriend get a full suit. He went out of his way to take the proper measurements and to make sure my boyfriend was comfortable. He even helped pick out shirts that would go well with everything. He was very truthful on what looked good and he even went out of his way to show us what the different sizes look like on him. I have never had such good service from anywhere! He is definitely someone who loves what he is doing. We were literally about to give up and leave because we didn't know what we were doing until Michael showed us the different brands and different fits they have. JCP is not the store it used to be it has instituted a new policy that even with a receipt it can decline your return if this third party they have hired feels you have had too many exchanges or returns. I feel this is not good PR for the store or customers. I have a Gold card and will not be using it or shopping in their store f I can't make an exchange or am able to make a return if needed. JCP Portrait Studio - Big mistake to schedule holiday card photos on a weekend in December. Waited for an hour past hour appointment time, and would still have been there for another 45-60 minutes or more had we stayed. We did not encounter this type of wait time two years ago, which is why we wanted to use them again this year.
