I was shopping for a sweater for my daughter at the Stonebriar store in Frisco, TX. I was not quite finding the style I was looking for. Malika was working the dressing room area. She came up and asked if I needed help. Once I told her what I was looking for, she was SO helpful! she brought me sweaters I had not been able to find on my own. She nailed it! I love the clothes at Altar'd State and my 3 daughters have this store as one of their favorite "go to" stores for cute clothes. The problem I have is with the dressing rooms. Last week my daughter and I went into the dressing rooms (after waiting in a long line) and there were more men than women! Every ladies significant other was lounging in the chairs. We ended up staying in our small dressing rooms, feeling uncomfortable going out to the larger mirror as it felt like we were putting on a show. I noticed young girls going to the larger mirror - and the men were definitely enjoying the show as the girls tried to make sure the dresses weren't too short when bending over. I wrote to the headquarters and this is their policy - to allow for each family unit to be present. Gone are the days when females have any sense of privacy when changing their clothes in a dressing room anymore. Note: when my girls want their boyfriends/fiancé/father to see the clothes they are trying on - they come out of the dressing room 2 steps to show them. It is not necessary for men to be in the dressing room. I'm sure some will disagree - but I'm standing firm on wanting girls areas to stay that way. read more

Came in here to find a dress for my lil sis' graduation and grad party but sadly she didn't find something that she liked but also long enough for her long legs and body but the whole experience here was great thanks to the wonderful help we got. Kristen was so helpful, very nice, and super on top of everything (I hope I spelled that naked right or even got the name right cause I asked and she told me like 3 times and I'm horrible with names fml..). She got us a room very quickly and even brought us dresses she reccomended without us even asking just to help out even though she was already running around busy. It was so kind of her and we were really appreciative even though we ended up not finding something. The store it self is so beautiful. The way its decorated and how clean it is, it is definitely different from your cheap messy stores like forever 21 (not that I have any issues with F21 but it's always a mess in there tbh..) The dressing room was so beautiful and cozy, I honestly could've slept there or sat there all day with some tea or something it was so nice. The clothes are super cute too and I loved the dresses. I would definitely come here to shop when I am in need of some nice vintage(?)-modern style clothing. read more

I went in looking for some new pieces and ended up with a whole new wardrobe! Lindsey was FANTASTIC!!!!!! She helped me step out of my comfort zone and brought me tons of pieces to try on. It felt like shopping with a friend. Had such a positive experience and will def go back!! They have pieces you wouldn't find anywhere else and are well made. The jeans are by far my favorite, stretchy and very flattering. Highly recommend stopping in and trying on some clothes you wouldn't normally pick! read more

I drove 40 minutes from Melissa to Frisco to pick up a necklace that was "ready for pick up" upon arriving and attempting to pick up my order I was told that my order was no where to be found. I stood there for about 20 minutes while the lady at the front was super helpful was on the mic with her boss in the back trying to figure out what the issue was. Instead of the manager EMILY coming to the front and communicating what the issue was to me, she had the lady at the register communicating everything to me. After almost 30 minutes of standing there and nothing being resolved I asked that the manager come to the front and speak to me herself instead of through the mic. She was not helpful at all. I ended up calling guest services and was immediately helped. I was given an apology for the inconvenience and she even gave me a gift card to cover the cost of the necklace for the in convenience. I would think the manager would be willing to be more help for their mistake and me driving 40 mins wasting my time. I left the store to go to Sephora and then came right back. As I stood in line - the manager saw me and then continued texting and laughing on her phone (her text must have been more important) once she finished her text, she asked me what was going on. I let her know I was given a gift card and would like to purchase the necklace. The lady at the front was super helpful but the manager was not so helpful at all and seemed annoyed that she even had to deal with this issue. I have to include this recent addition to my review. Yesterday I received a handwritten thank you note in the mail from the CEO of Altar'd State! In this fast paced, completely impersonal corporate environment of "I don't have time for you", there was a message of gratitude for my business and my time. Wow! The card said "we're so grateful for you." That's quite an endorsement for their mission statement. read more

I had never shopped here but my sister recommended them and said they always have great customer service. Whitley helped us and she was awesome, I needed jeans and she gave great recommendations as I just had a baby and needed a new size, she continued to help with input, ect. All the other girls that worked there were super friendly too and I look forward to going back. read more

What a shame that no one in this shop ever approaches me. The first time I went into this shop, the associates ignored me and only inquired of others in the vicinity and it happened again the second time I went today. I got the impression that they were being racist by only speaking to white people like literally I was there and the associate skipped me and approach the other white person next to me. I came in to return a dress because the party that I was going to wear it to was cancelled and I had no need for the dress anymore. The manager, who became less than pleasant when I told her I had a return, literally sniffed the dress to make sure that it wasn't worn. Are you kidding me? How insulting. Is this how you train your management team? Is this how you treat your customers? I will never shop at this particular location again. read more

This store is absolutely beautiful, I love it so much, but this location in this mall is ridiculous. The employees bombarde you the second you walk in, I was approached by 4 employees in one minute about starting a dressing room or if I needed anything. I couldn't even look without someone coming up to me. Just leave the shoppers alone for a second, they will definitely come and ask if they need help with something. It made me irritated and wanna leave and like I couldn't even look around. read more

So they had REALLY cute stuff (that sadly didn't fit me as well as I wanted--apparently I need to be a couple inches taller) but...it's hard to put this delicately...well, I could really do without the uber-Christian vibe. It's a clothing store, but the music is VERY heavy duty Christian music (there's also a lot of Christian jewelry/trinkets, which is fine, whatever). I love altar'd state very much but I had an experience that will likely result in me never shopping at this particular location again. I have worked in retail for many years and understand bad days and overwhelming circumstances but when I will never understand snapping at or talking down to a customer. I was in line for a dressing room for 20 minutes sunday waiting for a women with blonde hair in a long dress and a women with shorter dark hair to stop talking. When it was my turn to try on the employee with the darker hair looked at my boyfriend and rudely told him "i hope you know that you absolutely cannot come in here," even thought there were multiple men in the dressing room waiting area. After he asked why he could not sit in an open chair she said he would have to wait in the shopping area. completely disrespectful. read more

First of all, understand that this is a Christian apparel store. The company's tag line is "Where faith and fashion come together". They play Christian music, and just about anything with writing on it is Christian-inspired (scriptures, quotes, etc). I take a bit of offense to people who complain about the Christian music -- the company makes no secret about being Christian faith-based. (Also I don't understand how people can walk into this store and complain about having religion "shoved down their throats". You never read similar reviews for shops like Earthbound Trading Company, who offers merchandise and music from non-Christian religions but no one seems to balk at that.) I recently discovered this store, I could hardly believe that I was seeing Bible scripture displayed in the front window of a mall apparel shop and that's what initially drew me in. As a Christian, I was very excited to see a company so blatantly open about their faith and values. (FYI, the owners of Forever 21 are unabashedly Christian and "John 3:16" is printed on the bottom of their iconic yellow bags.) For non-Christians, their clothing offerings are so unique and precious. It's boutique-ish, they basically carry all of the adorable things you see girls wearing on Pinterest but can't seem to find a place to buy all of these amazing clothes. For Christian girls, it's like a candy store (or at least it was for me). They play contemporary and pop Christian music and, in addition to the amazing sweaters/dresses/etc, stock Christian jewelry, shirts, books, decor....way too many adorable items to list! The dress selection is also modest, so it's perfect for women like me who don't care to show crazy amounts of skin. The skirts are generally knee-length, nothing is overly sheer or backless or just exposes too much in general. There is also a great selection of gift items like mugs, throw pillows, home decor, etc etc. It's all adorable and worth checking out! My OTHER favorite thing about this shop is the decor. Pallets everywhere! The dressing rooms are amazing, decked out in mini chandeliers and rustic mirrors! It's very urban-rustic and so charming! They also keep a prayer request book in the fitting room. :) In summary: Christian girls will love this place. Non-Christian girls...bring earplugs? :) read more

Very cute and feminine clothes in here...I ended up purchasing 2 pair of sandals and a romper. The sandals were buy 1 get 1 half off (sweet!), but unfortunately, it didn't come off at the register and I neglected to check. I haven't gone back yet, but when I do, I'll let them know in hopes that they'll honor the sale based on the date of the receipt. This is indeed a Christian apparel store...the store music will reflect it, some of the home decor pieces/merchandise will reflect it, and the attitudes of/service from employees will reflect it. I only had a few spare minutes to take a quick looksie around, so I didn't get to REALLY shop and buy, but I definitely plan on going back. What's pretty cool about this brand though, is that apparently part of their proceeds are donated to various causes/organizations/etc. Who knew shopping could be so philanthropic? It's a Christian clothing store. Not a clothing store that plays too much Christian music. They play a mixed playlist. Yes most is Christian music but it is modern and really fun music. BTW I'm not religious at all! Some songs are remakes of classic songs or new ones. They had a remake of an arrow smith song. Some newer songs. Some signs say something religious. Some are also inspirational or quotes from famous people. They do good work too for numerous charities! Local or not. So really don't complain about the music. Look at the good they do that many other stores are not doing! Don't like the music, don't come in. If you're paying attention to shopping, you won't notice it. But seriously it's so annoying reading reviews of people complaining about the music. Focus on what good they do and ask anyone in store about what the store does in the community, out of country, and for their employees. read more
