JCPenney feels like a relic but I still like them a lot. For several years I've been able to buy inexpensive plus size clothing here that lasts plenty long enough for me, looks professional, yet doesn't cost an arm and a leg. More recently I've been buying baby clothes here because what I love about JCP is their sales and that extends to the children's clothing. At this particular store, the entrance on what I found out was the second floor is does not have any sort of button for disabled folks to enter. It is kind of astounding to me that in the year 2024 this is not standard on basically any entrance door, especially on a building that's less than 100 years old. Also interesting is that the elevator is in one of the further corners of the store, so that seems really helpful for someone with a disability who's trying to visit. They no longer have a Sephora, but they do have a beauty section in the middle of the store. They don't sell the same brands as they did as Sephora, though. I asked if they had the Lancome mascara that I use and they didn't. I'd return if I was in the area but may not make a special trip here. That's what online is for. read more

I wanted to return some sandals that were too small. I had already ordered them online without reading the reviews that stated they ran 1.5 size small. I drove to this location from the northwest side. I wanted to purchase some clothes and shoes. There were a lot of 75% off sales on the racks....(NOT) I looked for what seemed for ever, when I did find something nice ,(at a good sale price ) when at the register the cashier told me that it was twice the price on the tag. That some people change the tags...Ugh!!!! Soo disappointed. There were items I would have tried on but It was like 80* inside. I was uncomfortable, and sweating. There were no real customer service, when I was browsing the jewelry department the attendant ignored me, so I walked away. Not worth the aggravation. I received the warming courteous welcome lots of help I found what I was looking for with the help of the staff they have employees who are smart and very friendly, helpful and respectful toward their customers. I also liked the fact that the employees were dressed with respect toward the public. The items on the hangers and shelves were very organized. Great selection for your basic items as in tees, jeans, etc. The store environment was very airy and clean. The clothing within the store was very appropriate for the season. When I came here there were some people inside looking at the products and choosing what to buy. The good thing is their place was spacious. When I look at their clothes some are in a thin fabric but at a cheaper price. Some of their clothes are expensive but in a high quality fabric. Some staff will not assist you if they don't want to or they are busy with some customers and busy organizing the inventory. I just bought one dress for my wife. When I paid it at the counter the counter staff was a little bit not in the mood. I don't know why, since they didn't greet the customer and didn't even smile. I hope they had a great service. I came here yesterday. I bought kids clothes for my niece. They have a selection for kids wear. They are so organize in their shelves. They have different shelves for girls and boys clothes. You can buy pants, shirt, dress, skirt and short. Not only clothes they sell , they have shoes, cap, accesories for kids and more. The shoes that I bought here for my niece last month was really good. She loves it so much. The shoes are comfortable to her at fits her well. The color is color pink and it's her favorite color. This is a review of a wonderful lady named Sharon Taylor that is a window associate in the window department. She works with drapery and curtains and helped me find what I wanted for my home. She was polite, patient, and very professional. She took the extra time to go in the back room to get other valances that I might like. After a long while she helped me get exactly what I wanted and I made a large purchase. Not only that, she let me video tape her putting them correctly on the rod, because I just couldn't get it right.! She gave me her card and told me if I had any problems to give her a call. She is an asset to this company and she truly wants to help the people that come in and need questions answered. J C Penney is underrated! Lately they have gone through a complete Facelift, I'm sure you've seen the commercials on TV. They have some neat blouses and dresses. I haven't done any intense shopping anywhere lately but I've picked up a couple of cute tops and dresses here. This place is great for buying your kid's clothes. I bought a couple of outfits for my newborn baby girl. The prices are fair. I've mostly been to JCP lately to use their Portrait center. I must say the ladies at JCP Portraits do a great job. They made y 3 month old smile in her Easter pictures. Such great pictures, I got so many compliments on them. They have plenty of props that are seasonal for your kid's portrait taking, the prices are good and it's never over crowded. Had not been to JCP in years but I'm ready to give them a chance. read more

I recently placed an online order for some items that I needed for a house guest. I chose the ship to store pickup option thinking that it would save me a ton of money on shipping. Apparently the savings are minuscule. What irritated me more was learning that the items that I chose to buy were already in stock items. What gives with the $20 ship to store pick up fee? I made a comment to the clerk behind the counter, who was kind enough to credit my account. Yay for me but sad for those who pay it willy nilly. I'd like to note that they don't offer the greatest selection in clothing for women. I found that their Junior Dept was way too young and cheap for my tastes, while their Women's selection is just too old and matronly for me. I do find great bargains here for my husband and son. I purchased 3 pairs of vintage wash Levi's, a Levi's shirt and underwear for under $90 today. read more

I used to think of JC Penny's as the place to go if you wanted low quality, cheap clothes. I'm 99% positive that was the case in the 90s. It is really hard to shake that kind of reputation. Then... My brother-in-law tragically passed away. The last thing I wanted to do was shop but I needed something to wear so I started looking at all the department stores at my closest mall. When I finally got to Penny's, I noticed what a nice women's section they have! The wonderful variety of business clothing is amazing. I picked out something that was functional but made note of the professional attire. Fast forward two weeks and I have a benefit to attend for work. My first stop was Penny's. There was reasonably priced business suits, professional dresses, and great individual pieces appropriate for business professional or business casual. The customer service can be hit or miss and sometimes I see other patrons trying to convince the staff to give additional discounts. Ok. Every time I go. But they have the best big and tall section around so I can shop for my giant of a boyfriend too so it's worth it! read more

This is a strange review for me as I had an unconventional first shopping experience at this JCPenny store. My girlfriend needed a very particular type of shirt as a part of a Halloween costume that she was making. As the date got closer and closer, we continued to strike out at stores downtown from Forever 21 to American Apparel. Finally, we found the perfect match online at JCPenny... only to find out that you have to go quite a way out of Chicago to actually find a JCPenny store! I was really surprised because I feel like there should be adequate demand for the store (especially in a city with a population of almost 3 million), but whatever. I called in, put the item on hold, and drove out to North Riverside. Overall, they did okay because they had what we needed, set it aside, and sold it to me at a more than reasonable price. I'm no fan of the location but in this one case the situation demanded the pilgrimage. I will likely never go back, but it's not a bad place to shop if it happens to be convenient for you. read more

I placed an order online, for some reason it ended up at this store. All I wanted was information on how to get it. I called 11 times, was hung up on in every Dept. When I did get someone, she didn't say hello, or womenswear , she said, Antonio! I said no ma'am, I need cu service please, she said one moment, and hung up. I had my son call with the same problem. Needless to say I don't recommend this store. Not sure how it is when you shop at this mall! I still have no way of retrieving my order. Good luck to anybody else who needs to talk to someone. I really didn't like my experience here. After visiting my best friend's family, and on our way back to the hotel we were staying at, my best friend and I only came here to buy some PJs because I had forgotten to pack some before leaving on my trip to Chicago, and while standing in line to pay for the items, the cashier was busy talking to the customer before us. It wasn't a quick talk either. We literally stood there for _10 minutes_, while the cashier kept on talking to the lady she was ringing up. No.. it wasn't busy in there, but come on.. if there are customers waiting in line, aren't you supposed to care about them!? We got sick of waiting and looked for another cashier to pay for the items. This lady scanned our items quick, and finished up quickly, but the girl was either having a bad day or just plain sucked cause she didn't even say a thing (not even the total of the items). I didn't really care at the point because I was more annoyed at the first cashier. After we paid for everything, I had gone to the bathroom inside the store, and while trying to find a toilet to handle my business in -- toilets were unflushed, or the previous person who used it left some of their urine on the seats. In the lady's BATHROOM?! Come on! How the heck does that happen!? DISGUSTING. To top things off, the toilet covers were not in the stalls, but on the wall near the sinks? When we were leaving the store, we passed by the cashier that we originally were waiting to have our things rung up... and she was STILL talking to the SAME lady and STILL scanning her items. I love JC Penny.. great deals, nice clothing... but come on... IN THIS PARTICULAR ONE.. they need more responsible cashiers, and they need to either regularly clean the bathrooms, or put the seat covers where they need to be. read more

I don't frequent North Riverside Mall often but was in the area and decided to go to JCPenny to look for clothes for my kids. I usually don't shop there either but love to eat the Steak tacos at El Milagro (I give it 5 stars). I really had a terrible experience at their store! I was in the store for about 30 minutes and decided that there was really nothing there that I wanted to buy for my son Especially because there was so little in his size. I started to make my way to the exit by where my car was parked. Mind you, I had my two kids (A 1 year old and a 3 year old) and a stroller. I approached one of the cashiers and asked if someone could open the doors since I was a few feet away from my parked car. He looked at me like I was an alien and said that the doors could not be opened and looked over to the other associate to ask. The other guy responded the same but what got me the most upset is that he smirked as he answered. The first guy I approached said you are going to have to go to the second floor through the back door and go down a couple of flight of stairs till you find your car in the parking lot. OMG o.O Let me just tell you, that just pushed me a tad bit below the exploding button He would not tell me why the doors couldn't be opened and so I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager. He just stood there looking dumbfounded and looked away like if nothing had happened. I told myself, just walk away and ask someone else. So there I was pushing the stroller and approached a woman who also told me the only way out was through the second floor and down the stairs NO ONE CARED AND NO ONE OFFERED TO HELP I would give it a - 0 if I could And I still don't know why unlocking the doors for a second to let me out was a big deal Very INCONVENIENT!!!!!!!! read more

I tried to purchase something today but nobody wanted to ring anyone up. The checkout upstairs near womens had 2 cashiers and over 10 people in line because it was the only counter open. The checkout downstairs there was a line of 4 people but no cashier. I headed over to curtains there was 2 cashiers not doing anything but wouldn't ring me up and told me to go to the counter I just left I told them there was nobody there and there was a line forming and they just didn't give a shit. So as I walked back to that counter line still there and no cashier. I went over to returns I ask them to call someone because there was a line forming. The women told me that was her station but she went to returns to help and told me to go upstairs, she did not give a shit either. For a store that is about to go under you think there would be of an urgency to ring people and make some money. Another women and I both sat our stuff down and left. If only zero stars were available... Went yesterday and was literally policed by some woman who kept marching around the small space standing behind me for no reason. My mom asked her for the price of a specific pair of glasses and she responded that the glasses were "different prices." The "sale" is supposed to be two pairs for $99 but we were quoted a price of $693.00 . They looked for a cheaper price and quoted $673. Of course they justified the $600 price difference with the complexity of the prescription. Guess what? The last pair of glasses my mom got were also from here and she can not see in those either--from day one. The optometrist who examined her yesterday confirmed that the glasses were made incorrectly. My last experience with them ended with them stealing a pair of glasses I ordered which were really sharp then replacing them with some crazy looking glasses I had never seen. We tried giving them another chance but never again. No wonder they are going out of business they should. read more

This review is for the blinds and shades dept. Had a wonderful experience with the associate there named Sharon. Went in looking for curtains for my condo. Curtains are very nice but with a lot of windows it can become expensive. I have always liked vertical blinds as well but thought they would be to pricey. They actually were very affordable and Sharon recommended them! She quoted me size and texture style on the vertical blinds and they were very reasonable. She explained everything and was not a pushy sales person- which I liked and appreciated. She was professional and knowledgeable. This review is for their portrait studio. I purchased a groupon and ordered additional prints at the studio, regular price per sheet is $14.99 but since I had a groupon I got 40% off so they were $8.99 each. The next day I see my gallery online and I see they have a better deal of $4 sheets! So I was happy to buy additional pictures but when I called back to let the store know that per their refund policy "100% satisfaction guarantee" I wanted to cancel the additional prints I ordered because I ordered them cheaper online well Matt (the manager) was not at all sympathetic of my situation and said he couldn't do anything. This will be my last time at their studio, their customer service needs improvement. They lost a customer over a few bucks. SAD! read more

The CSR is horrible here they are rude and slow working, When you see a line with over 15 ppl call for back and don't try to take your time ringing ppl want to go home to. On another note if you call this location don't waste your time they never pick up I literary called more than 30 times trying to get a hold of a manager or a SA and nothing.... Called corporate so they can work on this, not sure why they have a # if they are not gonna pick it up..... they should be someone near the phones during business hours, no exception. I've been trying to cancel a window treatment home consultation for 2 days now. If you try to call this location, no one answers. Forget trying the corporate number. They told me, "I'd just call the same number you've been calling." The best service I received was through Twitter. They couldn't help me directly but gave me the number to someone who could. I called the number and was on hold for 24 mins. I cant sit around all day so I hung up. Again, I'm just trying to cancel my home consultation appointment. I can only imagine the horrendous service we would have received if we purchased window treatments from this location. I'm very thankful that we didn't give them a penny. Yikes. Serious help needed at this store. I'm sure someone will show up at the time of our scheduled appointment and we'll just have to send them away. read more

RACIST, PREJUDICE, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!! While shopping this past Saturday, at the JC Penny in North Riverside, IL, I encounter a horrible experience from the many store reps and store supervisor. My husband and I were last minute shopping for items to give away at our annual "Give Back to the Homeless" picnic. After ringing all of our items up, the total came out to 428.93. As I was about to insert my debit card, with the chip, the cashier Marco immediately, aggressively demanded to see my ID. I informed him it was a debit card and I was entering my pin. He asked for the card, Held the card until the supervisor came. My bank card has a chip, signature and my picture on it. Once the supervisor Amy arrived, she wasn't trying to listen to anything I had to say. She threatened us by telling us we had to leave the store, or she would call the police. I asked to speak to the manager, she said she was the manager. I also asked her where it says I have to show ID with debit, she said she didn't have to show me anything. I asked for the customer service number, neither one had that info to give and still were acting really nasty. This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable! I was discriminated against because of my color. They automatically assumed I was stealing someone's card because "we" can spend that type of money, which wasn't even a lot of money to make a big deal about. I think this kind of treatment demonstrated from this company is unacceptable! I never been so embarrassed in my life! read more

My family and I had a very poor service with overbooked appointment and two hours waiting for 2 background settings. The package was complicated with confusing coupons and the staff forgot to ask if they can mail it. We drove back to this store and found all three staff were at lunch at 2:30pm then another 25 minutes wait again. We spent $200 package for the CD photos to find the CD was BLANK. I called the home office and it takes another week to get CD in the mail. I do not recommend JCPenny! read more

This place is ok and I'm surprised that JCPenney is even still around but they are getting better. The Claiborne options and now them carrying IZOD is nice but the rest of the clothes are aimed more towards the younger folks. We had the most awful experience for my daughters first birthday shoot. The "photographer" had no idea how to interact with my daughter she was unable to capture any good shoots. To make matters worse we purchased the digital album which only came with 14 maybe 15 pictures one of which was a close up of my daughters dress. If I'm buying the digital album i expect all the photos taken or at least let me choose which ones I want in the album. I complained to there customer service email and all they did was give me a 20 dollar gift card which I won't be using with them to basically shut me up. What was supposed to capture a happy milestone for us was ruined by them. read more
