JC penny....??? They are un believable, it took 19 phone calls to cancel an order. I had a CSR tell me to go to Home Depot, they were faster and would give your window blinds on the spot. I came to this store on a trip to Chicago looking for a wool suit. I approached a sales associate asking where I could find the aforementioned item, and was rudely told "You need a slim fit, there is no slim fit in your size in any wool suit". The employee did not ask whether I preferred a slim fit (I actually prefer the regular because it has more room), or even if I was buying the suit for myself (I could have just as easily been looking for a relative or friend). The general vibe I got from the employees here was that they wanted to get done with each customer as fast as possible without any respect for their wishes or thoughts; like they didn't have any interest in dealing with us. I'm not sure if this store is an anomaly or if it really is like this at all of the other JC Penney stores. Yesterday I was there to check out some summer dresses after seeing a couple of their flyers in the newspaper. After arriving, I quickly realized that JC Penney has made some strides in their clothing selections and quality. I went through the juniors department and then made my way up to the second floor for the women's department. The upscale designer labels were surprising and nice to see. A ton to choose from. So I really think JC Penney is doing well in their buyer's department. However.....and you knew I was coming to this. Shopping is an experience if you are in a store. Otherwise you would just shop online and take a chance that what you got didn't fit or wasn't the right fabric, right? Problem #1. Mirrors. Sometimes you need these things, and in close proximity to where you're in a store, so that you can throw on a jacket to check for length/fit. With as many things as I had in my hand, it would've been nice to be able to try on a sweater or jacket and see if I even liked the color on me. It was sooooo frustrating. And it was in EVERY department I was in. No mirrors. But upstairs, actually, I did manage to find a few mirors on the column supports in the store. The funny thing is, they all started at my neck and went up another five feet from there. What is that all about? The ONLY mirrors they had were three-way in the dressing room. So every time you wanted to check something out really quick, you had to walk all the way over to a fitting room (I'm getting to that next) to check it out. Ridiculous. The only time I didn't have as much of a problem was upstairs, where I discovered they have ONE full-length mirror in the shoe department. Problem # 2. Dressing rooms. Ummmmm, these are very far and few between. I felt like I was in Discovery, that store where there ARE no dressing rooms and you buy and take everything home to try them out. Downstairs, the dressing rooms were small an dumpy. Doors didn't close and there just didn't seem to be a good layout and availability of them. Upstairs, they had a much larger dressing room that was CLOSED. Why? Don't know. But the dressing room I did manage to head into was full - 3 rooms. Too small as well. Also, a very weird situation. There was a teenage boy sitting on a stool in between two dressing cubicle doors waiting for his girlfriend to try on prom dresses. What was a guy doing in the ladies dressing room? There wasn't a men's department in close proximity anywhere. And his only reason for being there was so he could bring his girlfriend dresses and see how they looked on her. Totally inappropriate. Stand outside, or move the stool to a section where you can't peer into the other dressing cubicle. And of course, the dressing cubicle door wouldn't shut. I had to hold it closed for my mother. And she mentioned that there were NO hooks to hang up any of her clothes. So I decided to find another one after she finished trying on her two items. I had like 12 items to try on. Too many for me to throw on the floor. Problem #3. Okay, so after finding two items I felt were cute and wanted to purchase, we went for the checkout. Almost at the end of my checkout was where I was really surprised. I looked up and the LCD display showing my purchases was facing out, and in PLAIN VIEW OF EVERYONE in large enough bold typeface, was my entire credit card number and expiration date. Buyers beware. With the technology of camera phones very accessible these days, I think this is an absolute breach of privacy and security. Luckily the printout didn't have anything except the last four digits and exp. date, but really....unacceptable. At the very least, those LCD panels shouldn't be visible to anyone except for the checkout reps. But with a circle style checkout, I guess they would still be visible by the other side. I was so concerned, that I sent an email detailing the exact above experience to JC Penney's customer service. A lot needs to change at this location. I hope someone takes notice and rolls up their sleeves. I would be happy to shop at JC Penney, but if it continues like this, it will be very rarely, and only if I'm in the mood for a sub-par experience. read more

I went to buy some shirts with the extended tab so I can close the top button around my giant neck and put on a tie. The salesperson told me they don't make those shirts anymore, then he helped me find shirts in my size. I went to the dressing room and once I got all the pins and papers out of those damn shirts, lo and behold the shirt had the extended collar tabs, the sales people should be trained better in their products. Now, the dressing rooms, gross, dirty, disgusting, not enough hooks to hang clothes and no where to put the pins that are in all those shirts. As someone else mentioned, they need more cashiers, waited long time for checkout. Now I did buy two shirts, but one ended up being a bit too big, so when I went to return it, I was in line for forever, the lady was trying to do a return for someone else and had no clue. She had to call someone else. At this checkout station there are 4 registers, and only one person working. When the other guy came to help her w/the return, I said, "can you open another register?" My frustration level was rising as I was 2nd person in line and had to wait 20 minutes for the return. Why have 4 registers if you only have one open? That person moved like a sloth!! read more

I love JCP, but will NEVER go back or deal with the North Riverside Park Mall store again. Customer service was HORRIFIC! I ordered an item online with ship to store, after a week I called the store to see if it was in, they said yes. I drove 45minutes to pick it up only to find out it wasn't. While in the store, no manager or supervisor were available. The staff were terrible each giving me a different story. One slid me down to the other end of the counter to discuss, only to drop my tablet on the ground, breaking it. I wanted to file a claim they took my information and said a supervisor would call me. No call received. I tried calling the store-no luck. I called the 800# who also couldn't get through to the store, I took to social media and only then a store manager voice mailed me, giving me 1 hour to call him back and stated "this item is no longer available and I'll eventually get a refund". BAD INFORMATION. The item was absolutely still in stock. I called the 800# again who once again couldn't get through to the store since they NEVER pick up the phone. The 800# reordered the product at the same price and shipped direct to me. I had to go to my credit card company to dispute the charge. I order all the time online, but go to other JCP stores with no problem. I will NEVER go back to this JCP again. I highly recommend staying away. read more
