I know most folks wouldn't initially think of JCPenney for waxing, facials or trendy hair but I have not been let down once in my three years of coming to this salon. Veronica does an amazing job! If you're looking to get your hair did, ask for her! She got me to the blonde I wanted in one round, fixed my bangs that I had butchered myself a week prior and gives the BEST shampoo, I seriously almost fell asleep with in the bowl. Soraya is the one to ask for if you are in need of a facial or wax service! She's always got my brows looking amazing and her facials are relaxing and leave my skin dewy and sparkling after! This was a horrible salon experience with color. we didn't get what we paid for. the color didn't take- they switched stylists, they didn't cut the hair when we paid and asked for a cut. When I called customer service they were unresponsive. they made the complaint high priority yet ignored it despite follow up. What I had done at JCPENNEY could have been done with a box from CVS at home myself and I would've covered the hair. It is unbelievable that this is the way they do business. read more

I had an appointment on Sunday with a stylist who supposedly has 20 years of experience. I had a memorial to attend that day, so I arrived early. I do have fine and colored hair and asked for a large curl perm. I even showed her a picture. The process was taking a little longer than expected. When she was done, I paid her and even tipped her. I was running late, so I thought to just let my hair dry in the car. When I touched my wet hair, it felt extremely mushy. I tugged just a little and MY HAIR WAS BREAKING OFF!!!! SHE FRIED MY HAIR!!!!!!!!!! MY HAIR WAS LIKE MOSS WHEN SHE WAS DONE!!!! I ran back inside and spoke to another stylist who tried to save my hair. She went out of her way to help me and managed to get me a refund, which was difficult because the salon manager was on vacation. A LOT OF MY HAIR WAS CHOPPED OFF, I MISSED THE MEMORIAL, AND IT WAS THE WORST DAY EVER!!!! AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THE STYLIST HAD OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE!!! WORST DAY EVER, I LEFT CRYING. :( read more

I honestly would prefer to give 0 stars!! The staff here are very RUDE! Do yourself a favor a visit another JCP salon. I had an appt scheduled for with Louis whom I'd never seen before. I received a call to confirm appt but the lady Janice mentioned a different stylist name. This has happened to me before. When I called back I admit I was very upset because of the mixup and even more when the scheduler showed no compassion ...she was very dry. Long story short she called me back after reaching out to Louis and was advised he deliberately put me with another stylist because I've had numerous no shows. This is untrue!! Aside from this appt I had one back in October with him and I was late due to traffic from 1 hr drive in which I called in advance but I've never been a no show. Even then the staff was very rude when I arrived didn't even offer to schedule me with anyone else. They all just stood staring funny at me and lack courtesy. Shame on Louis to deliberately reschedule me with someone I don't know and not even have the decency to call me beforehand to let me know his logic behind it. A simple phone call advising me about his policy and sharing my so called no show dates(which I requested from the rude manager Katy and have yet to receive) would've been the ethical, appropriate thing to do. This would've prevented me from becoming upset with the scheduler. Their customer service and approach to resolving minor issues is beyond horrible and unacceptable. Fortunately, I was able to contact my JCP salon of close to 15 years(my regular stylist moved out of state) and find a new stylist there. Lesson learned I do not recommend this Sunrise location at all. Will post reviews on other sites as well!! read more

Went and got a haircut here today and was disappoint when I came out with an extrememly crooked and uneven length under cut. It looks awful and is higher than I wanted. The stylists name was Ashley. She didn't show it to me or shampoo my hair like the clipper cut is supposed to be done. I don't want to come back to this salon because I'm worried if they touch my hair again I'll be bald. I came about 3 weeks ago for a full highlight. The stylist was kind and full of great conversation. I appreciated that we wore masks during the styling since everything is so up close and personal. But after getting home and getting feedback of my hair from family and friends they pointed out a harsh line on my right sideburn. I don't know if it was missed because it was tucked behind my ear and mask, but once they pointed it out It was all I could see. It was like a solid 3inches of outgrowth and 1/2 inch of bleach at the tip. And it was right where I part my hair so front and center. I almost just bought the product to fix it myself, but thought "I paid $155 for the style and tiped $30, I shouldn't have to pay to fix it myself", so I called and asked if I could have the stylist touch it up when she had time. Well, I went back last Sunday, again the stylist was great, nothing on her. But I was shocked to find they don't have a "procedure for guest satisfaction, and that they would be charging me the cost of a shampoo, condition, and blowdry", all to fix 3 inches of missed bleach on my sideburn... another $30? Sooo... if you don't mind paying over $200 to make two trips to the salon, come here. Otherwise, go somewhere that takes their quality of work I to consideration and don't put the stylist in a position to force the guest to pay twice for what they should have got in the first place. read more

Heather S. colored my hair last night. I had some red highlights that I didn't like. She brought my hair back to an ashy dark brown color. That way it neutralizes the red. I was impressed by Heather's knowledge about hair color and she was very nice. Heather spent a lot of time on my hair. I bought the hair color package with a hair color, deep conditioning and gloss. I have opted to do them myself. I felt very at ease, she is incredibly gentle. The eyebrows turned amazing. She took her time. Went back for a cut from another gal and she just wants to chop more than I wanted off and made my hair lop sided. Her hands were shaking the entire time. NO NO NO NOT EVER AGAIN!! I've been wanting a major change for a while so I decided to go for it. So I call "my salon" but they stopped doing perms in January, so I started looking around. Finally I landed on JC Penny salon (Sunrise Mall) they schedule me to come in super fast so I'm excited! The day comes and I show up and I'm talking to the stylist about what I'm looking for. I'm am TOTALLY PREPARED.... (like 10 pictures prepared). She tells me which is the most realistic one and we get started. She even goes to the extent of bringing another stylist over to look and decide on the size of rod and the pattern placement. Hours pass the unrolling rinse and unveiling come and my hair looks ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES, not like ANY of them!!! These curls are so tiny and tight, super small coils is what she gave me (like 20 hairs per curl. It's absolutely ridiculous) especially when we discussed loose large spirals. I tell her this is absolutely not what I asked for and I'm upset, she keeps telling me it will relax, don't wash it right away though, you want the curl to stay.... WHAT?! Where have you been, are you not listening at all?! NO I don't want this to stay ! Not even a little! I go home, immediately wash and deep condition for hours. Call them and say I need to come back to have this fixed, I cannot walk around like this! The get me in on Sunday (original apt was Friday) and she tries not re-perm it like I was promised...she wanted to just put solution on it and brush it straight to loosen the curl. I insist on the BIG LOOSE CURLS and AGAIN show the picture. She confirms she totally understands and NOW she sees where she went wrong. So again we Roll, process and unveil... and NO!!! It is just one about one size larger than the previous curl. She did do a deep condition treatment as well, but lets face it my hair is 100% toast at this point! I have spent over $100 dollars for this, now it's wasted 2 days of my 3 day weekend and kill my hair & there is absolutely nothing I can do but look hideous and keep washing and conditioning it and hope it calms down. I am so embarrassed to even leave the house. PLEASE, THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING TO JC PENNY SALON! I wish I had...:( read more

Went to JC Penney's today for the special for kids cuts back to school. I can't remember the lady's name but I told her what my son wanted. She started cutting and I told her it needs to be shorter. She argued with me telling me that it doesn't need to be that sort and that's not what my son wants that I need to make him happy and let him have the hair he wants. I told him that's not what he wants he want's a certain cut and that's not it. She still didn't cut it short as I wanted so I went up to the front and ask for someone else to cut his hair. After a few minutes she came back and argued more with me saying that I need to let him cut his hair how he wants !excuse me? I couldn't believe what I was hearing She actually came out to argue more and in front of more customers. The Manager took the charge off haircut and Phoenix fixed it. Horrible. My daughter hadn't had a cut in forever and was all excited to get her hair done. She wanted to go to Jcpenny because our last experience there was a good one. Our appointment was at 5:30, which I have 2 emails to prove as well as a confirmation voicemail from the salon itself. I made the mistake of having my husband take her. The receptionist said our appointment was at 5:15 and they were late, so they couldn't blow dry her hair because they close at 6pm. UM No! First of all, you close at 7 and secondly, I paid for a blow dry to be included!! Husband said it was obvious that they didn't want to help them. They did a super quick cut and her hair looks like it wasn't touched. She was very disappointed and I was and am still pissed. read more

OMG..I stopped by pennys salon before work just to get my hair tapered in the back. It should have taken 5 mins but I was there 20 mins. After she finished she didn't ask if I wanted to see the back and at this point I'm running late for work. I had gross ugly dark blonde hair that looked yellow and horrible, but their stylist Karen K. saved me! She said she's from L.A and has been making women blonde for 50 years and she knows her stuff. It's true. Someone stopped me said my highlights looks like buttercream frosting, and the placement of the highlights is amazing. If you want to be blonde make an appointment with Karen. (Also I found her because I stopped someone who had gorgeous highlights and she told me where to find her, I drove all the way from Vacaville to get my hair done and I will keep on doing it.) read more

I went here for years due to EXCELLENT stylists like Karin and Gabby, who apparently are no longer working here. Got my hair done by a woman named Yenni. Just wanted a simple, trendy haircut and she ruined my hairstyle completely. Showed pictures even and she did the exact opposite of what I wanted. Last time I get my hair cut when I have a headache already. Looked at hair after it was done and just thought "maybe it will look better when it's dry..." Yeah, she did not even dry my hair. Got home and was mortified. Called manager to complain. She offered to fix my hair, which to me meant chopping off the mess the other lady had made and starting all over again. She was awesome, very fast and knew what she was doing. Gave me the exact style I wanted. Unfortunately, she was in a hurry and was probably embarrassed and did not take the time to make sure the lines were good. And she did NOT chop off the entire mess the other lady had made (as I had asked her to) and I could SEE IT in my hair, which just made me more disgusted. I ended up with holes from them not layering correctly, probably from the first cut. If she gave cuts and would take the time I would probably go to Cathryn again, but she's the manager and doesn't usually do cuts. Definitely miss Karin and Gabby, they were the BEST!!! My experience here was dissappointing on the time. Brought in both of my daughters to do highlights and color for the first time was told by the reception that it would take 3 hours max. We arrived at 3pm, it's going on 7:15 pm-I'm still sitting here going on 4 hours. My daughter asked for ombre and her hair is looking good so far and she is almost done. I am still to see my other daughters hair. She is in foil. While the lady working on her hair has had two clients and working on my daughters hair. I am here now while she works on another ladies hair and my daughter at the same time. I am sitting on an empty chair pissed. So so so so annoyed at this point, my 14 year should be free at this point. The dye is not lifting and I am pissed as hell at how long its taking. I am a grown women who has had hair bleached, colored, styled and curled and walked out feeling like a million bucks. NEVER EVER TOOK OVER 3 HOURS. The ladies have a million excuses as to why my daughters are still being worked on and my husband had to go wait in the car. If you cannot complete a job in the time promised to not overbook and piss off clients. Its 7.26pm and she is still in foils. This was a total time dissapointment. Over the years of living in the Sac/ Roseville area, I had meandered through stylists, some longer than others... but ultimately not finding one that your hair and you scream, " I'm home!" One day, in coming into Penney's, I stopped in and checked out the salon, made an appt with a gal named Veronica. Who knew that while I'm just doing a last minute thought that I would come upon the most customer service based stylist?! I come from many years of a retail giant in management and there is an appreciation you seek once you've been " raised in it", so to speak. Veronica In just meeting me exceeded every expectation. So, so friendly, listened to what I was looking for, brought out pics and hair color samples, and never winced once over this lengthy indecisive consult. She has never wavered, she was and is still the gal greeting me, consulting me as if it was as day one that I sat in her chair. I receive so many compliments from others and many being hairstylists themselves, which is a testimony in itself. I wanted to express to my concern about my visit today to the JCP Salon at Sunrise Mall; although I was hoping to utilize many of your offered services I cannot say that I will be back anytime in the near future. Pauline checked me and my 11 year old daughter in for a kids hair cut at a few minutes before 3pm. Jasmine (I believe was her name) walked my daughter to the back for her cut, I followed them and explained what we wanted; mid back, U shaped, thinned, with side bang that swoop to the right. At an hour of my daughter being in the chair I became a bit restless and starting checking on them. Jasmine had cut my daughters bangs very short and to the left; not the right. She also did not thin her hair but created some very long layering that was so choppy and close together that it just doesn't even look right. She began flat ironing my daughters bangs to try to force the correct shape and even told me it was "ok because she could swoop them to the left", when in fact my daughter puts them to the right and we said that to begin with. At one point another stylist with blonde hair came over to try and help salvage my daughters bangs, again using a flat iron, so much it was burning her hair and looked ridiculous. I literally had to tell them that no amount of flat ironing was going to fix her bangs, just to stop. My daughter then said she would just take straight bangs, but both the hair stylist working on her couldn't even do that. I was appalled. I had to go find another stylist and ask her to please help because these girls had messed up my daughters hair beyond repair and were just making it worse, they had her in the chair for an hour and half and still couldn't get it together. The stylist who agreed to assist me and take over had my daughter's bangs cut in less than a minute! I am not one to complain, but honestly these girls have no business working on hair unsupervised if at all. I was really disappointed because I thought the salon was ran more professionally and I was really looking forward to scheduling a facial with the salon. My daughter was in tears when we got in to the car, she knows that it will grow back but we both would have definitely not gone there if we would have known the outcome. I was not asked to pay for the haircut, nor did anyone apologize to me or my daughter the horrible inconvenience. read more
