For context, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, I had an appointment at Town Fair Tire (TFT) to replace all four tires on my Crosstrek. About a month earlier, during a routine oil change at Subaru in Wallingford, the service department informed me that I would soon need new tires. When I left that appointment, I received an estimate for four replacements and was told Subaru would soon be running a sale, which would lower the price further. I didn't bring that estimate with me to TFT because I assumed a discount tire retailer would be less expensive than a dealership. Unfortunately, that assumption turned out to be wrong - I paid more at TFT. Then on Monday, May 4, 2026, just two days after the installation, my tire pressure warning light came on. I called TFT and was told they would match Subaru's price difference (about $165) and that I should come in to speak with Gino. When I returned on Thursday, May 7, 2026, to discuss both the price match and the tire pressure issue, I was greeted by a polite young man at the counter who went to get Gino. From the moment Gino arrived, it was clear he was defensive and dismissive. As someone with more than 30 years in customer service, I can confidently say this is not the type of employee who should be interacting with customers. He was curt and unprofessional during the discussion about the price match and equally curt and unprofessional when addressing the defective tire. There was no apology for the inconvenience, no acknowledgment that a brand-new tire should not be failing after a few days, just indifference. It's disappointing to lose a loyal customer over $165. That small amount might mean little to a company the size of TFT, but to the average customer, it matters. More importantly, it's the difference between building a long-term trust and ensuring that I'll take my business elsewhere in the future.
