JDT's Brickhouse (a.k.a. JDT's on Main) is an American restaurant that opened in Thomaston in October 2011. It was founded by Judy Bradshaw, her daughter Debbie Kaiser, and her daughter-in-law Teri Bradshaw. Together they have over 35 years of experience in the hospitality business. The restaurant space on Main Street in Thomaston had previously been home to Thomaston Pizza & Seafood for several years. For the new endeavor, the partners chose the name 'JDT'. It wasn't just their initials, but also as a loving reference to James Downy Tucker: a beloved family member who passed away in 2009. The menu at JDT's consists of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, tacos, salads, soups, Italian entrees, pasta dishes, New Haven-style pizza, and various appetizers. My family and I visited JDT's this past weekend. We were in town for the 'Light Up Thomaston' Christmas parade and were looking for a place to grab dinner afterwards. We headed inside after the parade and beat the dinner rush. The restaurant had a limited menu to coincide with the parade. My wife and I were in the mood for some Christmas-themed cocktails. I had the "Cinnamon Apple Old Fashioned" (bourbon, apple cider, bitters, cinnamon sugar rim) while she had "The Grinch" (midori, vodka, sprite, lime, cherry garnish). JDT's pizza looked pretty good, but we already had pizza the night before and decided to get sandwiches instead. I had the "Chicken Parm Sub" (with fries) and my wife had the "BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich" (bacon & cheddar with fries). From the Kids Menu, our older son had the "Chicken Nuggets with Fries" while our younger son had the "Mac & Cheese". Everyone was very happy with their choices. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our visit to JDT's. We were interested in going back sometime, but the very next day the owners announced on their website/socials that they have decided to retire and sell the restaurant. We were sorry to hear this, but wish them well on their retirement. Hopefully an interesting new restaurant will replace JDT's. read more

I was definitely very surprised by JDT's on Main. From the outside, no offense, it looks plain and dated. There is plenty of parking though, so plus! But inside, it looks welcoming and so clean. There are wooden booths along the walls, with table and chairs in the center. The wall decor is homey and in sections, obviously done with fresh chalk. There's a lot of natural light from the big windows in front, and you get a nice view of the church and ... Well, traffic. The restrooms are single rooms, but also very clean and well attended. The food was delicious. My burger was cooked over medium, as requested, and juicy without being messy. The fries were crispy but in no way overcooked. Our waitress was also very kind - she checked in several times but was in no way overwhelming. read more

4-18-25 What the heck happened to JDT's? I just sent my husband there to pick up three meatloaf dinners. It was disgusting! It all went in the garbage. The meat was old and tasted rancid, laid out on white bread with open a can of cold brown gravy on it. The instant mashed potatoes were tasteless-no salt or butter. No vegetables. It came with very salty chicken and rice soup and the rice was never rinsed. What a waste of 51 dollars. And we are still hungry and now I have to cook read more

My family and I recently started getting pizza and salad from JDT's, and we love the pizza and the DRESSINGS- all the dressings. The blue cheese is the best I've ever had. The salads are also delicious and always fresh! read more

First time ordering from JDT's for dinner and have to say it was really pretty good! JDT's Salad is a 5 star salad all day long. Fresh spring greens and very well put together. Calamari with gorgonzola was good. Calamari was just a tiny bit on the tough side but still really good. A little pricey for the portion size. Mac & Cheese was very tasty. Full cheese and the crust on top was garlicky goodness. Buffalo chicken spring rolls were excellent and the tater tots were as they should be. Overall JDT's is on the pricey side for a standard dinner but for the quality of food that you're getting I think it's well worth it. Will order from here again! read more

Finally got a chance to come back to JDT's Brickhouse for breakfast. We walked in at 8:15am this morning, place was moderately busy for that time on a Sunday, so there were booths open. I ordered the full stack of Cinnabon French Toast off the breakfast specials (w/ a side of sausage), my wife ordered a bacon, cheese & tomato omelet w/ home fries. LONG wait for our food to come out. Like about 30 minutes. When our dishes finally arrived at the table, I was underwhelmed with what I saw. Basically my breakfast was just normal french toast with copious amounts of vanilla and cinnamon poured on top of it. Very heavy handed with vanilla & the cinnamon, it was edible, but I wasn't thrilled, that's for sure. My wife's omelet, on the other hand, was decent, and her home fries were tasty. My sausage side wasn't the Jimmy Dean variety, so at least that was a positive. The staff was very attentive this morning, but honestly, I felt that they were only friendly to "the regulars". We were never asked how everything was, but they lingered at other tables having conversation. Total bill (with tax) came out to $23.82 Overall, I can't see a return visit to JDT's Brickhouse again. Been there twice (once for dinner, and now once for breakfast), and with all the other choices in the area, I don't see a reason to come back for mediocre food. IMO, JDT's Brickhouse is a weak 3 Star rating. read more

Wow! Great hidden family friendly small place with a very nice owner. Food was good and it wasn't loud and tense and uncomfortable. The owner Deb makes a special attempt to visit each table and get to know who comes to visit. She was very sweet and is very passionate about the quality of her food that she is serving. Just had meat loaf parmigiana. It was good. The meat loaf was moist--not dry. This was the dinner special. I have had previously their New Haven pizza-- thin crust. My favorite is the sausage & pepperoni. I have had all three meals here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is worth driving the 5 1/2 miles They also have a desert menu. The first thing I can say is please please PLEASE do not mistake JDT's as just another Thomaston pizza place because I promise you it's not - it's so much more! They make so much from scratch - they hand cut the fries and make their own dressings and believe me you can tell the difference because it's 100% quality. Going to JDT's is like going to your mom's for dinner - you're going to leave stuffed with leftovers to bring home! The portions are big, the food is delicious, and everyone there is friendly. I highly recommend the meatloaf. Who orders meatloaf at a restaurant you ask? You will every time once you try it! And how awesome is it that the recipe belonged to the owner's grandma?? My second visit here. I will say the food is good. Service is bad. Wait... unless you are a regular then the service is great. We were not regular enough I guess. Tonight went in for pizza because the owner said it is better than New Haven . Pizza was fine. I also ordered wings, never got them. Owner/waitress forgot to push send on POS. No one else used that POS? She did offer to make them , her treat but already had the pizza and wasn't looking for anything free. What I was looking for was some more water to go with my pizza. That never came. The owner/ waitress and the other girl were to busy with the regulars and someone's baby. I guess the owner thought we all would enjoy her antics with the baby! We have always had great luck with JDTs for pizza. Their food is usually great and the service is friendly. Unfortunately the service has been sub-par lately (food is not ready when it was supposed to be, and the lady at the register called my boyfriend "kid" - he is a 30 year old bald man...) The pizza was terrible; so soggy we couldn't even pick it up and we needed to use forks. This was especially disappointing because we have always loved their pizza in the past... they are our go-to spot in Thomaston. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend for them. read more

Friendly service. We stopped in after the Terryville Fair, based on Yelp reviews. We all had the pizza special, which was a personal pizza with one topping and a side salad for $11. The salad was a very good size, fresh and crunchy. Excellent bleu cheese dressing as well. Our friends didn't want toppings on their pizzas, so the server said we could have two on ours. I had the prosciutto and artichoke hearts, and there was plenty of each. My husband had sausage and mushrooms, which I didn't get to taste. It must have been good, though, because he ate it all. The guys had several draft beers, and we all shared the apple pie ala mode. The bill came to $42 per couple with tip and tax. Very reasonable. read more

So far I have been to JDT's 3 times since their opening in the old Thomaston Pizza and Seafood building...Once each for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have to say, this place is a breath of fresh air in Thomaston. This place is owned and run by people who have been in the Thomaston restaurant scene for years and they are stepping things up a notch. The menu is similar to what you would find at Rozzi's and the like, typical American fare. The decor inside is fantastic with professional photos from around town adorning the walls. It is surprisingly large inside as well. The breakfast was very solid. French toast and the Roger's Favorite kielbasa scramble were both tasty. For lunch, I had the "Flood of 55" Philly Cheesesteak. This monster sandwich is made from their house made prime rib which they shave. It is loaded with peppers and onions and cheese on top of a fresh toasted garlic bread sub roll. A+ on this sandwich. One of the best Philly's around for sure! For dinner, I had the prime rib served cajun style. Super tender, perfectly cooked, and excellent cajun spices...not just some blackening powder thrown on there. My wife had the NY strip with the gorgonzola crust. That was fantastic as well! Unbelievable steaks for under $15! Overall, this place is great to have in town. The menu is pretty standard, but the prime rib (either Philly or the steak) is where it's at! Awesome. Food was amazing. We came for lunch with a five-year-old. Was perfect, my girlfriend had the Cavatelli with broccoli rabe and sausage, that dish was amazing, and enough for 3 meals. I gave the Brickhouse a try last December (2011) Since then I had only one experience that the food was luke warmed and I told them and they complemented that meal. On my next visit they talked to me and apologized again. I love the Corn Chowder, and I have had so many difference dishes since then (except for Sea Food since I don't care for Sea Food). I am surprised that Some one thought the Goulash was bland. I have eaten Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper there. I do not care for the french fries since they are the pre-coated kind. ( that is my personal preference just like the sea food.) Now the staff -- Friendly and even if the staff is not the server that took my order, they still check if every thing was alright with my meal or if I needed anything else. Cleaniness-- Yes, it is good and I judge by how the bathroom appears. Which has always been clean and neat when I needed to use the facility. As an Health care professional, I make a point to take note of this. I am a terrible cook so I plan my budget so I can go to the Brickhouse at least twice a week. Which means today is Monday and my night off from work, so Off to the Brickhouse I am going. read more

I came for breakfast and it was really goood. I had a special, bisquits and gravy. It was very good and was homemade. It was not packaged gravy, I think it should be a regular on the menu. My daughter had a bacon egg and cheese and it was very good. The bacon was excellent, It is trying to serve value oriented meals and I feel it is doing a good job at it. The staff is quite attentive. Excellent establishment owned and operated by I believe a daughter and Mom. I had their version of Meatloaf and it was outstanding her very own personal recipe and the service was top notch. I also had the French onion soup very well made I've been to a few other area establishments but this one stands out for quality homemade classic dishes, attention to detail is where I make my observations and they're on point. I did speak to the owner a lovely lady who works long hours and is literally at your service she told me how it all happened for her and the story really is an American tale of hard work and consistency turned into a hidden gem only the sharp eye would even understand. My family came here for dinner recently, and I really wanted to like JDT the first time round, what with the nice servers (owners used to work at Rozzi's), and the cozy atmosphere. I got the goulash, but was a little underwhelmed because it definitely needed more seasoning. On the other hand, the gravy for the open face roast beef was a tad too salty. The burger and fries looked pretty good, but I wish they had a larger variety of burgers, like at Rozzi's. I like that you can create your own burger, but I would also love to try some of JDT's own concoctions! ;-) Now, with all that said, JDT definitely has great portion size and prices going for it. And, as mentioned earlier, nice staff and nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back here not only to support a local business, but also to give them another shot.
