After Tower Grill closed, this place was taken over under new management. You still get that same diner feel even after all the changes that were made, but take that out and you can definitely tell this is not the same place it used to be. Not to say that it's all a bad thing because I do still come here from time to time. But as I've tried new things on the menu, this is not an example of "the more things change, the more things stay the same". Compared to homemade country fried steaks for example, this one just doesn't measure up, and you can especially tell this apart when you have the gravy to go along with it. The French toast they serve also doesn't quite measure up the way that it used to. It's still not bad, but they were definitely better when Tower Grill was here. It is however still a good place to go if you're getting breakfast on a snow day or if you just need a cup or two of coffee. The customer service is still alright, but it was better before Tower Grill closed down and became this. They're still okay people, but as the torch was passed down, it's clear the new workers didn't entirely inherit the kind of customer service that kept me coming back here all these years. They won't entirely drive our long-time loyal customers, but if they can't do better, new customers will not want to come back and this place too could close down. The ambiance here is still the star of the show and I hope they never get rid of the true diner feel this place still has. That's the one thing this Freight Street eatery still has that makes it stand out. read more

Who doesn't love a grill/diner like place. Has its fair share of usual peps that have their spots. Food is tasty haven't had bad meal yet and I've been trying dif things for a while now. Super busy but friendly they try their best to keep drinks and food moving. Breakfast is big plate of food. They have club sandwiches which are great. Variety of drinks. Never got chance try desserts but they look amazing the rainbow color cake always mesmerize s me but I'm strong and keep walking out. Have outdoor patio which is nice in warmer seasons. Parking lot to park in. Prices decent considering food prices these days def get large plate of food. They have Eggplant parm sandwich which is really tasty and No Skins! Awesome. Sweat potato fries are a fav to. Cash / Card payment. Looks like does to go orders and delivery orders always see the drivers coming in to get the food. Def worth the visit. 2.26.23 This is one of my favorite breakfast places to eat in Waterbury area when I come to this area. It's probably on my top 3 list of all time. This unassuming spot is one of those proverbial hidden gems in the city of Waterbury. This breakfast place has been here for over 60 years. The same building. Years ago, for years upon years it used to be called Tower Grill with different owners than the present owners. These owners are doing the previous legend proud by still dishing out great food. They serve breakfast and lunch. You can get breakfast during lunchtime without an issue. Service is usually quick for the most part. Every now and again you end up with a slight delay with your food if you happen to hit em during one of their peak eating times. Other than that it's quick service. The staff are always pleasant. Sometimes more than others. I only mention it because during those peak times with heavier volume they're in the zone and intensely concentrating on getting your order correct and going on to the next guests. No problem at all with that. I can say that I've never had an issue with them getting our orders incorrect. All of the food is always fresh. They don't skimp on the quality or quantity of their food while still doing portion control so that they can make a profit & stay in business. This spot is a must try for those who haven't been here yet. Their private lot make for easy parking. The restaurant is always very clean. Their coffee is very good. My favorite items are their omelettes. My all time fav is their corned beef hash omelette with cheese. To die for. It's so good. Their Belgium waffles are great too. Almost forgot to mention about their home fries. They're great also. Their sausage links are better than most places. They're not those skinny minny thin ones. They're little fatties (sausage links). "Dawn of a New Day" A lot of people were saddened by the closing of Tower Grill. It was assumed by some people that the building might be leveled due to the reconstruction of the highway and a landmark diner would become a mere memory. But not long after, the diner was taken over by new owners. A complete remodel of the inside was underway and soon after it was the dawn of a new day. The Freight Street Grill looks brand new inside. They have a huge menu, awesome staff and excellent food. I had three waitresses come over with fresh pots of coffee asking if I'd like a refill. That's great service. I had a special of the day. The New York Deli Omelette. Pastrami, corned beef and cheese omelette served with home fries and rye toast. DEEELICIOUS !!! My next visit I'd like to go for lunch so I can have the Patty Melt. I always eat here the food is awesome.. but the waitress that answered the phone to take my order was very rude when I asked for the price for what I ordered. She told me she was to busy to give me a price and to just figure it out when I get there. I told her I wasn't the one picking up the food and she hung up on me, only for me to get a call back from someone else telling me not to show up and they weren't going to make my food.. No. Just no. Not only was the food bad, it was atrocious. It's almost embarrassing that the owners and employees actively choose to serve the food they make. We ordered disco fries, a Greek salad and mozzarella sticks. Where do I even begin.... The disco fries were below mediocre, we found a small what seemed like towel fuzz , the fries were soggy, the cheese was cold (and skimped on) the gravy tasted chalky and absolute worst quality. We eventually asked if we could have the fries baked a little longer for a crispier texture, 2 min later our waitress was back with microwaved fries..... you can connect the dots on how much soggier they came back. The Greek salad specified "kalamata olives , banana peppers and onions" amongst other ingredients... all three of those ingredients were missing, we were given actual SLIVERS of tomato, cucumber & pepper. 2 thin slices of each. And lastly the marinara sauce on the mozzarella sticks tasted like the pizza sauce on lunchable kids meal. Listen it's a diner, expectations weren't high, but we also weren't expecting such lack of quality and quite frankly would go as far to say that any GOOD cook would consider this quality of food literally dangerous to serve let alone eat.
