I had the poached egg with pork in red wine sauce. It was not bad. For the main entree, I had beef cheeks with carrots. It was good but the portions were small. It's an old place. Beautiful corner spot, top notch cooking. Eat here. I won't bore you with a blow-by-blow of my meal, mostly because the menu's changed up periodically, and I can practically guarantee it's changed. So disappointed. We used their web site reservation system, which said they would be open the day after Christmas. We received an email confirmation, then a reminder and so we spent 40 Euro round trip to Uber to the restaurant and back only to find it closed. I emailed them (copied below) and gave them time to respond, but they never did. I'm so sad because this was one of my favorite restaurants in Paris, but we'll never go back and we'll never recommend them again. The food was incredibly delicious. I had the mushrooms for an appetizer, the white fish for dinner, and the rum cake to complete my food experience. For those patrons who are not fluent in French (as myself), navigating through the menu might be a challenge. Thankfully, the couple next to my husband and my table were very kind to translate it for us. P.S. You might ask why I am not giving this place a 5-star rating if the food was incredible? Well, the reason is because the waiter was a little rude to us due to our lack of expertise in the French language. While we tried very hard to understand the menu, we still hit major roadblocks along the way. I chose the 3 course meal of pumpkin soup, Spanish black pig, and chocolate cake to finish. Add wine of course. The highlight of our Paris eating!! You won't be disappointed and will talk about the experience to your friends back home. Something you'll want to re-live over again! My husband and I went on Yelp to look for a dinner spot on our last night in Paris. Our hotel was just down the street from Je The... Me. If you are taking the Metro, it is one block from stop at Convention on the #12. We didn't have a reservation, but arrived on the early side, around 7:30. The Maître d', was wonderful wonderful. A previous Yelp reviewer says, "Completely adorable", and that's just what he is! Perfect - and charming. He spoke enough English to get by. I speak enough French to get by, so it all worked out. The place is very cozy - but has an upstairs area as well. Probably fits about 20 people. My husband got "Spanish black pig", which was phenomenal! I got scallops, which had a citrus foam. At first bite, the flavors just blow you away. You can tell, not only by looking at the beautiful plate, that such care was taken into making your meal. The restaurant is a group effort in service, where the chef took a few of the dishes to our table. Very pleasant and inviting. You really feel welcomed and I could feel the Maître d' really appreciated our American enthusiasm! Don't be afraid of veering off of just saying 'tres bien' - He got my point when I replied, "this meal is just ridiculous and wonderful". If we had done Entree's (appetizers), then Plates (main course), plus 2 desserts, I would say we would have been there 3+ hours. We only did a plate each, then split a dessert. Even though custom in France to go 'full out', I didn't feel that our American ordering was snubbed or anything. The splitting of the dessert was a little confusing to them... so if you go this route, say "One for Two". Wonderful meal, service, and an experience we're telling stories about on our return home. Very, very small. Only 10 seats available. We came at lunch time, made reservations but they were not really needed. Owner does not speak English well, but he knows a few words. He was nice overall, but I would advise that you know the food items (in french) before ordering. He does relay them to you in English for a 'general idea.' French menu only, listed on chalkboard. It was a very small and tight atmosphere. However, the decor reminds you of a general store that used to be there years ago. Overall the food was good. The mushroom first course was excellent. My husband had veal kidneys, which he said were alright. I had Chilean Sea Bass which was good. Portion sizes were perfect. Hmmm.. we came to this little restaurant hidden in certain some what shaky neighborhood because of a great referral of my friend's daughter. Decorated with items from the old past, limited seating and late operation hour ( 7 pm) all these could easily deter tourists but the locals seemed to have no problem supporting this restaurant. Most customers come after 8 pm. Now, remember this is a place serving traditional French cuisine. Many items on the menu could be raw meat, so ask before order. My friend accidentally ordered raw beef pie as the starter and she was not happy about it. Thx goodness I was able to switch my cream of mushrooms with her. I do eat raw meat even though not frequently. The beef was well seasoned and small bite size so the dish was actually quite good. The cream of mushrooms I ordered came with lots of mini mushrooms as garnish and it was really good. We both ordered fish, cod fish for her and I had Tuna. Nicely sate with just enough rawness in the center. She ordered Crème brûlée, and I had soft sponge cake with Rum. She said her Crème brûlée was ok but I love mine!! read more

Braving the dec snowstorm that hit paris just 2 months ago, my friend and I trekked here, through all the snow and were thoroughly satisfied. Yes, my cholestrol shot up like crazy, but my excuse is that, my 20s are for times like this. My homemade pate was delicious, the perfect balance, not too creamy and great consistency. It was incredible. Duck confit was excellent and perfectly cooked, my friend picked off the skin, which, is one of the best parts, even just the skin, the dish tasted fantastic. Saw this on a Bourdain Episode and it was one of the highlights of our Paris trip. We dined at 4 Michelin establishments while there and this place stands along side them surpassing some. The hosts were soooooo great!! Jacky is the Man!!! He serenaded our table and spoke with us at length even though we do not speak the same languages. Chef Louis was Excellent and came out to talk with us about anything and everything we wanted to know. His flavors were subtle and worldly inspired, his execution was excellent. The establishment evokes a feeling of French warmth and hospitality that makes you wish it were a part of your life and that you were a part of it. Intimate, cozy, yet alive and filled with energy, It almost makes you wish that you grew up with these simple things such as a wooden shelf made only to hold wine on that street corner in Paris. A very difficult to locate spot, had to find our way in Paris during a nice snow storm, we knew it will close at 10:30pm, and it was approaching 9:30pm fast. We were so glad this restaurant was welcoming us with open arms. The restaurant sits about 20 people on the first floor, it was very crowded at the time, but not noisy at all. The owner himself opened the double doors for us, offered to shake off our snow before we stepped in, and took our coats as we were huffing and puffing. We had a nice side table for 2, with heaters by our seats to keep us warm.The room was filled with decorations, a nice feel to it. Our waiter was very kind, i believe that is the SON of the owner. They had English menu, Pre-Fixe meal set at 38 euro pp (which is AMAZING) For apps: -we got the foie gras de canard with fruit marmelade (+3 euro), this was an ordinary dish because thats really all we ate at Paris, foie gras.....My girlfriend said she was all "foie-gras" out but we were so hungry, we ended up getting 3 apps!! (see below) The marmelade just added a different touch to the pate we were getting accustomed to. The bread they served were slightly dry, but enough for us to enjoy. -Poelee Forestiere (season wood mushrooms) & celery range was the second app we had, this was a fantastic dish, the mushrooms were really done to perfection, there was an explosion of mushroom flavors on our palates, there were about 4 different types of mushrooms i could have distinguished, and the celery just added texture while rounding up the dish completely. -Beef tongue, pot au feu, with vinaigrette; this was a tester for us, i love beef tongue but it is usually too rough. This was done to perfection as well, the tongue was tender and the flavors were not too overwhelming. We accompanied our apps with a glass of Chateau Massereau (Bordeaux Superieur) 2003 for 9 euro, this was nice as it really warmed us up. I had the Domaine Cazes '95 for 12 euro, a sweeter red wine, my usual taste to accompany my food. Best wine i had yet. For Entree: Scallops, Cabbage & apple-citronella foam (+8euro) This was a real test; to cook a scallop is really not the most difficult thing to do, but for it to be done perfectly, that's the key. This dish was slightly over-cooked (about 15-30 seconds) The scallops were real fresh, while the apple-citronella foam added a nice touch to our palates, but didnt engulf the essence of the 6 big scallops. The cabbage has also very good as it absorbed the flavor of the scallops quite a bit. Overall this dish was very nice, but i would not recommend getting this dish alone (25euro+8 euro= 33euro) -Veal kidneys with gnottes, cherries and mushrooms sauce The French really knows how to cook their mushrooms, the veal kidneys were perfectly cooked, while not too gamy. The cherries added some citrus-y to the dish. The overall dish was very good, but it didnt felt too french to me (and my girlfriend). During the entree, i decided to ask the owner if this was a fusion with other cuisines, and of course we were right. The owner tells us the chef traveled all over the world, including parts of Asia where he picked up most of us culinary skills and use of spices. For dessert: -Season fruits crumble (apple+banana+vanilla"cremeux"+crumble) This was a great way to end our meal, the crumble was halved cookie we had on our dish, along with the vanilla cream served on the side. The apples were nicely warmed, this dish was very well put together. -Chocolate cake, pistachio cream, and cardamom ice cream. the cream was fanastic, and the icrecream had a bit of gingery taste that tickled our taste buds. All in all, a very satisfying dessert. Our meal was under 120 euro, which was very good considering that it included TIP AND TAX!! This is the BEST restaurant in Paris. Before discovering this hidden gem, I found myself extremely disappointed by Parisian restaurants. 90% of the establishments in this wonderful city are either overpriced and/or the food lacks authenticity and is catered more towards tourists. It was quite the opposite of what I expected but then this wonderful restaurant came into my life and truly opened up my eyes. The food here was absolutely amazing. So amazing that my fiance and I dined here twice on our 5 day vacation! The restaurant itself is a cute little family owned restaurant that is nicely decorated yet homey. The service is beyond superb and the chef himself personally came out to talk to us both times. You can tell they really love and have a passion for what they do. We whole heartedly enjoyed our meals at Je The...Me. We saw this restaurant on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation in Paris and decided to add that to our list of places to eat during our Paris trip. Luck for us, we were able to made reservation online thru www.bestrestaurantsparis.com/en/. The restaurant is owned and run by a father and son team. The son, Damien speaks perfect English and is very knowledgeable about wine. We've asked him to pair the wine for our courses and he did a splendid job. For our dinner, I had: 1. Fricassee de champignons Sauteed seasonal wild mushrooms with garlic and onions. This dish has so much flavor and fragrant. I could smell and taste everything in the mushrooms. It was a sensory overloaded dish. 2. For my main course - Noix de St. Jacques Seared scallops on a bed of cous-cous with wedges of pink grapefruits and oranges. The combination of citrus with scallops just go so well together and it gives each other a good balance of flavor and texture. 3. For desserts - Croquant aux Fruites de Saison Seasonal fruits, which happened to be pears with crumbled yellow cake and homemade basil ice-cream. My dining companion had: 1. Crème de Potiron au Foie Gras Pumpkin soup with seared foie gras. OMG! Say no more. Foie gras soup. That's all it needs to be said. Creamy, hearty pumpkin pureed soup with cubes of seared foie gras swimming in the broth. Heavenly! 2. For his main course - Magret de Canard roti au gres sel Roasted duck breast drizzled with grey salt - the duck breast was cooked medium rare, the perfect way to enjoy a truly good piece of duck breast. The meat was so tender, how I know? I stole a bite off his plate. 3. Finally dessert - Dessert au chocolat A light, airy, but very chocolaty chilled mousse with crème Anglais, raspberry pureed, and basil ice-cream. Another incredible dessert. The place is small, but intimate. The first floor seats about 16 people, but they have an upstairs dining room that seats about 20. We really liked that it is in a residential neighborhood in the 15 arrondisma and of its patrons are locals who know the owners. It is not a fancy establishment with snooty waiters. But instead you get charming family running the restaurant and welcoming you to eat at their home. The food is made with fresh ingredients, well prepared, flavorful and comforting. The plate decoration is clean, elegant and with lots of characters just like the bistro itself. This is the kind of place that makes what is already a splendid meal an even more memorable one. We were so impressed with the dinner we had, we decided to come back for lunch on the next day, which was also our last day in Paris . By far our favorite meal of our trip to Paris and Amsterdam. Don't stress about reservations too much - I called a day ahead and dropped my best (not good) "parlay-voo anglay" and they were more than obliging. The restaurant is small and cozy, and our waiter was very helpful with wine pairings and the like (as well as completely adorable). We had a point to go here and try some offal dishes since we had heard they do wonders, and we weren't disappointed. The veal kidneys were one of the best things I've ever tasted. Yum! This is the most adorable restaurant ever. I made a little boo boo and accidentally booked a reservation for the wrong day (for the day we were leaving) but they were able to seat us anyway (albeit upstairs away from the action). It's a super cozy restaurant run by the chef and his wife, who are both super cute and funny. The menu changes constantly, so I don't know if it's worth even talking about what we ate, but I will say that it was all delicious. For a complimentary amuse bouche, we were given a super fresh seafood salad, which was amazing. We each had a glass of wine - my sister had a super sweet juice-like wine (Ballet d'Octobre) and I had a crisp rose (Chateau de Pregentiere, Provence). For a starter, we ordered the homemade pate, which was fatty (in a good way) and perfect with the bread and we also ordered steak tartare which was hand chopped and friggin' delicious. For one of our main dishes, we had the lotte (white fish) which was served with capers and it was delicious. For the other main, we had the duck a l'orange (classic French dish). The duck was cooked perfectly and it came with potatoes au gratin which were flavored with lemon zest, which was super yummy. For dessert, we had a rhubarb tart and a chocolate cake. This restaurant was a highlight of our 10-day stay in France. We felt fortunate to get reservations after it was featured so recently on "No Reservations" in the U.S. The food was superb, and like the other reviewer, I was prepared to spend a good deal on wines that would accompany it. After expressing my likes for a Sancerre and Gigondas, the son/waiter/sommelier steered me towards 2 far less expensive wines that had us all swooning. My married daughter completely forgot her status and proposed to him! Both father and son had all of us laughing and enjoying our evening immensely with their charm and antics. On my first trip to Paris, many years ago, we booked at some pretty famous (and expensive) bistros: L'Ami Louis and Chez Allard. Both are memorable, partly for the experience of wonderful food and atmosphere, and partly for the experience of the famous Parisian "attitude." Trust me. Jacques, the owner speaks English and treats everyone with special attention,he may join you at the table to share a story. There is a French traditional menu and a daily special menu. The wine list is very good. We enjoyed escargot in an herb cream sauce, lentils with sardines and my husband had duck breast which he says was the best he has ever tasted. I had salmon tartare. For dessert my husband had a perfect apple pie and I had raspberries and whipped cream with a light crumble on top, which was like a cloud. It was the best restaurant experience in Paris and we have been to Paris many times and have eaten in Michelin Star restaurants . We plan to return! read more

Little did I know this was a spot that Anthony Bourdain has been to?! This was an accidental find (which is often the best thing every). Tucked into our quiet little residential area where we stayed, it is an unassuming and quaint little cafe. The menu is in French, which isn't a problem for me, but but aware if you struggle to translate. The menu seems to change , but my recommendations: the shrimp appetizer and whatever fish they have for the main course: get it! I celebrated my birthday here and we had amazing food, 4 small amazing things - I think they change their menu every month, so you always get a surprise dinner when you go here. It´s a small place, but they have room upstairs as well to fit more people. The atmosphere there is nice and warm. The service is super, the waiter we had took his time to tell about the wine and the menu, and all the dishes we had. The place is family owned and you can fell that through the service and from you walk in, the place has a special warmth to it. Their food is of superb quality, though a bit on the pricey side (which is why we can't really dine there too often). It's a small 2 floor spot that enables the feeling of a welcoming meal in a friend's dining room. Since there's not a ton of space, I'd recommend making a reservation if you can. English speakers, fear not. Though there is a language barrier and they don't have their menus in English, some of the staff are able to translate and are extremely patient and helpful. So we just dined at Je The...Me and I wanted to write a review while it was still fresh in my mind. First it was actually pretty easy to find. Luckily we were staying on Rue Vaugirard so we walked down the street till we found Rue d'Alleray and sitting on the corner was Je The Me. Taking the first step inside it felt like we stepped back in time circa 1900. We were immediately greeted and asked if we had reservations but luckily they were able to accommodate us even though we did not. The time was approximately 8:45p. The feel was very cozy, resembling an old bookstore with lots of teapots lining the wooden shelves and the tables were literally right next to each other, bumping elbows and eavesdropping into our neighbor's conversation. It was almost comical how American I felt since we need so much personal space compared to other countries. We ordered a bottle of Cotes du Rhone (~25 euros). Delicious with a bold ending. Fumbling through some elementary French, the waiter was kind enough to accommodate us with English. On to the Food: I ordered the pumpkin soup (Potimarron au foie gras 12 euro) with the foie gras which was intoxicatingly amazing. There was little bits of foie gras underneath some thick cut prosciutto with some pumpkin chunks. The foie gras melted in your mouth with a sweet decadent taste that is hard to convey into words (but I guess I just did). Please trust me, that it was delicious (most memorable dish). For my Plats (main dish) I ordered the (Filet de Bœu 28 euro) steak with potatoes. It was good but not something to write home about (although I am). My date ordered the Plat du jour (flat fish with potatoes 28 euros). Since I couldn't go w/o trying a bit of his dish I dug right into his after he took his mandatory first bite. The fish is what you would expect from any white fish, cooked well but lacked some flavor. The most memorable thing about it would be the sauce. It came topped with an orange sauce which tasted carrot based but was nothing short of amazing. I'm sure there was some fish stock and a kilo of butter in it but I'm in Paris, why not splurge. My waistline will have to deal for the time being. Overall, I really enjoyed the ambiance and authenticity of the dishes at Je The Me. The patrons seemed eager to help us since we glaringly stood out. They nonchalantly made it known that they also knew English since we were basically sitting at the same table. If you are a fan of Anthony Bourdain and happen to be in the 15 arrondissement I would recommend trying Je the me and please order the pumpkin soup if nothing else. read more

I came here for my birthday because it was one of the most highly rated restaurants that was within my price range (food in Paris is so expensive!). The food and service was excellent -- we had the head chef serving us some of our dishes. I wasn't a huge fan of the fact that they wrote their menu on a dirty blackboard, but it worked. I had a lamb shank, which was cooked perfectly but slightly under seasoned, and possibly the best prawn dish I've ever had. I was not a fan of the dessert, which used way too much alcohol. Restaurant Je the'...me is a standout in Paris, world capital of outstanding restaurants. The cozy space holds a mere eight tables. The menu rotates with what's best in season (in Paris, how else?) and is lovingly tended by charming father and son proprietors. Table to ceiling shelves display all manner of tea (the') paraphanalia, with one corner dedicated to wines. The kitchen seems just a few steps away from the dining room, and rather than a distraction, it feels as though one is almost dining at a friend's home - if that friend were plating buttery foie gras and perfectly crispy sweetbreads. A chalkboard menu lists 5-6 each of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Our party of five selected with teamwork in mind to sample broadly and found every dish to be a gem. In this impersonal, increasingly self-service world, the contrast in Restaurant Je the'...me is striking: to be greeted by the owners, who attend every table and create a relaxed, warm, (can i say, human) ambiance. After inquiring to our taste in wine, the younger proprietor/sommelier suggested something a third less in price than our original selection, and it suited our taste beautifully. Viewing other tables showed scenes of laughter, enjoyment and simple happiness, equaling our own. This lovely spot, full of personality and character is a place where memories are made. I had my first meal here after we landed and it was a great way to start off the adventure! It's petit and cozy. The food is spectacular. I had the smoked salmon as a starter--I'm not too good with smoked/raw-ish but it was fresh and they matched it well with other ingredients.
