This is not your traditional Parisian cooking style.... this restaurant is a full on Southern France cuisine. We were looking for a good Boulliabese .... and here at Le Sud they have the Boulliabese version also from southern France and is called Bourride. Is almost the same but thickened with egg yolks. This is a most have. IT WAS DELICIOUS! As appetizer I recommend the salmon tartare and the small Whiting fish. For main courses we had filet de daurade, entrecote and the bourride which I already told you it was awesome. The fish came on bed of vegetables cooked perfectly. Desserts here are very good as well.... rich and creamy homemade icecream, and one that they called coffee and petit desserts, which as it says comes with a mini version of tiramisu, lemon custard, chocolate mousse and coffee. All very good. My favorite were chocolate icecream and pistachio icecream. Needless to say that service here is very, very good. The Restaurant itself is beautiful, just like walking into a southern garden in the middle of Marseille. In my opinion this is one of the best Restaurants in Paris. I'm not sure what is happening at this restaurant. We were so excited to dine but the service was not up to par for a 1 star restaurant. They made one of our guests take a covid test when he didn't have his vaccine card on him. The hostess told him it was positive when it was actually negative. It was pretty stressful and embarrassing. Staff talking rudely about other tables right in front of them. There were dropped and broken glasses/utensils, several courses served when guests are in the bathroom, really pushing to order wine, and the credit card machine didn't work. We ended up having to pay in cash and we were not apologized to. Finally, offering us to take our aperitif on the terrace but the terrace was already closed? Won't be returning. read more

Ambience is enticing, but at the end of the day it's definitely directed toward a tourist crowd. Fortunately food is great. The interior has a make believe outdoor atmosphere with several real trees throughout the dining area. Lighting is somewhat dim, seating is cosy with not the most comfortable chairs. The staff is not the most friendly, but get their jobs done well. Food was awesome. Went with four others and no complaints about the short menu. Prices aren't cheap, so if you're on a budget or with picky eaters, probably not your first choice. read more

Ambience here is 5 star but in my opinion this is an expensive tourist trap. The moment you enter you feel like you have been transported to the south of France but, it sort of stops there. The service is ok and arrogant. They had run out of many items on the menu by the time we arrived. The menu cards in English were a bit of a giveaway for me. It was expensive mains and many of the dishes I wanted to order were not available. The wine list is small and has some ok wines in it. The red we had was ordinary and, the lack of Provençal aperitifs also, equally disappointing. I had the petit pots for starter which was ok. Four dips in pots with breads. It did not blow me away in anyway. My main of whole fish was also ok and slightly overcooked. They forgot to bring my sides for the whole meal and I was left with a whole fish and nothing else. My cafe gourmand was the highlight of the evening and the chocolate mousse was to die for. I don't think I would come back here again. Paris is one of my favourite cities to eat out as, there is such an extensive culinary scene here. I am confident I can do way better for a lot less money, in this town. I will leave this place for the people who want to pay a lot of money for ok food :-)) read more

Olive trees, sun baked bricks, and garden tables, all call to mind the South of France, and this cheerfully pastel restaurant next to the Meridian Etoile does the same. It is also the perfect antidote to the uberhip sterility of the Meridian decor. You enter through a pair of grill work iron doors, and are greeted with the bright mis of soft pastels that speaks of the breezes and sun of the South. The menu features dishes culled from French country cooking, which is also the cuisine most Americans are familiar with. The restaurant does attract many tourist diners from the large hotels that surround it, so the staff can accommodate English speakers well. We sat near the street window, in a courtyard of potted olive trees wrapped in twinkling lights. We were immediately brought some bruschetta and olive tapenade with a dish of almonds, a thoughtful hors d'oevre for the hearty country food to follow. I ordered a delicious Bourrade, a dish resembling Bouillabaise, but more like a rich fish chowder containing cream and garlic. My beau had the three course special priced meal at 33 Euros, with ripe cantalope, grilled salmon on a bed of greens and rice, followed by a rich chocolate torte. As I soaked up my exquisite Bourrade with crisp chewy baguettes, we chatted with a Mom and daughter traveling through Italy and France, as we had. We all recounted our hair-raising transportation stories, and enjoyed the meal even more for our adventures! A relaxing place for our last night au Paris! read more

After a long day exploring Paris we got here a bit late but really wanted to try this restaurant before leaving. We got wine and salad for dinner since it was late and didn't want anything to heavy before going to bed. Our server was very nice to us and though we basically closed the place down she was super kind to us but not making us feel rushed as she and other servers were working at cleaning up for the night. This is less than a block from Le Meridian Hotel. They are known for their steak tartare and it did not disappoint. The cod was good as was their rib steak. I'd recommend the appetizer platter. Wine list is just ok. Good service. read more

Great little restaurant across the street from the Palais du Congress and the Hotel Concorde. We dined there twice, neither time with a reservation. The staff was wonderful and the food was very good. As we were in Paris for a conference at the Palais du Congress, among several hundred others, the staff assumed we spoke English and did their best to accommodate us, even providing English menus. The escargot was great on our first visit, but overcooked on our second. Otherwise the food was very good and reasonably priced (for Paris). read more

I've stayed at the Meridien 3 times now and got a chance to have a meal here. At first glance, it looks a bit chain restaurant like the others on the same block but glad to see the positive reviews on yelp. (I am trying to yelp more often internationally!). We picked a table which looked like a courtyard - where there is a lot of natural sunlight that comes in which gives you the feel of sitting outside. Especially good when it is rather cold out. Luckily this place was open relatively early on Easter Sunday. I went for the set menu which was pretty good value which was 2 courses for 25 euros. I started with the old fashion terrine - which was really good. I had the half chicken for my main and my first bite was a bit dry, but luckily it was only 1 part. It was a delicious roasted chicken with a block of mashed potatoes. I wish there was more gravy as it was seasoned with some lovely fresh herbs. I was ready to start gnawing at the bone but held back as it was a lot of food in the end. I'd love to come by and try the Bourride next time. read more

Located next to the Palais de Congres, you'd never expect to be transported to Provence as you walk across the threshold into a charming courtyard of olive trees and cicadas (yes - they have a recording of cicadas that plays in an inobstrusive loop. I was in Paris for two weeks and I ate at Le Sud twice. I had a suckling lamb confit dish with pasta and it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Paris. I had it twice and I look forward to eating there again when I return to Paris. The wine was good too. read more

I had dinner here on a Tuesday. First came very stale bread. I got the souppe de poissons. It came luke warm and had no depth of flavor. The croutons were awful and the "rouille" was just a plain aioli and looked like it had been sitting out for a long time. I got the baked cod over mashed potatoes. The fish seemed like frozen and the garniture was just strange. The prices are such that I expected a lot more. This was a very disappointing meal. read more

Great atmosphere and friendly service. The staff don't speak a lot of English as others have mentioned. But they do have English menu. I ordered the La Bourride which is a melting pot (literally came in a hot pot) of tender seafood simmering in a very smooth but not over-flavored broth. It was a hit and the broth goes well with the special garlic? butter bread that come with the dish. I had wanted to try their creme burlee but will have to wait for the next time. Avoid this place . The restaurant is quite lovely with an authentic country French atmosphere which is quite inviting from the street . That is where the charm ends . The service was very disappointing . It was clear that the staff was not interested in American visitors - although those around us appeared to be getting better service ! Staff made no effort to communicate ( although we attempted with broken French to our best ) with us . The food was below average and in spite of five different meals , nothing was worth remembering . The menu is quite one dimensional and without any genuine originality . Went here while on a business trip and stayed next door at the Le Meridien. Besides for feeling awkward having dinner alone (business travelers life) - the host an wait staff were unwelcoming. Once I was seated, the staff forgot I was there and didn't bother to bring me a menu for almost 20 minutes - despite me making hand gestures to get their attention. I had to practically shout to get someone's attention! Once I ordered - about 30 euros for eggplant and ground beef - I was shocked at how small the portion was, almost thought it was an appetizer. The food had no taste and was expensive for no reason. I plan on coming to Paris often on business and will never, ever give them my business again! read more

Just had dinner here and the food and service were great! The atmosphere is cozy and charming, replicating the south of France (hence the restaurant name). The servers were very attentive and took time to explain the menu to each table. We realized one of our servers was also one of the restaurant owners. Great local restaurant across from the Palais de Congres. The Bourride, which is a creamy style bouillabaisse, was delicious. I also had the Limoncello Baba which was also very good. Our waiter spoke english very well but it did not seem like a touristy spot by any means. Very authentic food from the style of southern france. My wife and I just had dinner here tonight. The food was ok but the kitchen messed up and so it took 45 min to receive our meals. My wife's bream was fantastic but my lamb confi was way too salty. Service was good, except the large hostess was incredibly rude! read more

The freshly defrosted, badly cooked fish was drowned in oil on one side while fully covered in sesame seeds on the other side. Actually it was not even cooked as the bloody veins were still visible. I added a second star because of the ambiance, but other than that, I was very disappointed. I ordered the Sud Salad. The lettuce was drenched in this white sauce that left it unrecognizable. I got maybe 3 tomatoes, ONE piece of artichoke, and a few strips of chicken - all of which cost me 20 euros. I hope this place does better for anyone else who goes there.
