Hairdresser did my nails while waiting on color to set. She spoke very highly of her manicures, so I sap OK. She gave me a gel manicure that she spoke very highly of. It was nice and I was happy. I sent my daughter over for a manicure and she was charged $ 80.00 for a gel manicure. Included in this fee, is supposed to be a hand massage, which my daughter did NOT get. Unfortunately, one of the nails (on this regarded manicure-by Joan) came off either that same day or the next day. My daughter was very upset and called for an appointment to have the nail fixed. She was given an appointment with the woman who specializes in nails and this woman fixed her nail. The manicurist told my daughter that more of the nails were going to fall and she never should have had a gel manicure broker nails are too thin. My daughter was still upset because she paid $ 80.00 for what appeared to be a substandard manicure and called the salon again to complain-she felt she should not have been charged the full 80 dollars. She was told the owner would give her a call to discuss her concerns. This never happened-no one called her. I went back a few weeks later to get my hair done and I did not ask for a manicure. The hairdresser kept making comments about how great her manicures are. She must have given me this message 4-5 times. I didn't respond as it was obvious that she felt like she was right. Apparently, she is in the habit of giving gel manicures to people who shouldn't have them, not accepting any responsibility for a manicure that started falling apart within 24 hours all for the price of 80 dollars. No, I decided to write this review given the response of the hairdresser and the lack of response by the owner. Rather arrogant and egregious behaviour by both. I was happy with hair service, but not even that will get me to EVER go back. read more

Several years ago my husband gave me a gift card for $200 and when they switched to a new computer system they said they had no record of it. I swore I would never go back and I did 3 weeks ago. I had a level 3 stylist and paid $70 for a haircut. The back is so uneven and when I called to have it fixed they said I would have to pay for another haircut. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. ANTI SEMITIC HAIR SALON! BEWARE PROTECT YOURSELF! The "color specialist LOLA" absolutely destroyed my hair. I kept wondering why she would do this to me. My hair was so many different colors that it took them 6 hours to try and fix it (they didn't) also I asked for a trim on the ends and my hair was missing 4-6 inches depending on the side. It was so uneven the other hairdressers were appalled. When wondering why their "amazing specialist LOLA" would do this to me. I realized the conversation we had while we were starting my appointment. She asked about my baby and I told her how important my hair was that I grew during pregnancy was to me (which she cut off about 4-6 inches depending on the side) she also asked about my necklace which I explained that we were jewish. She immediately said she needed some water and left to get some. I can only speculate as to what she did but she came back and would barley speak to me then proceeded to absolutely ruin my hair. If I could give negative stars I would. I do not wish to share the pictures as they are humiliating as I had been crying so hard. If anyone wants to see search them on tick tock. While trying to find a reason for why their "color specialist LOLA" would purposefully push me out of the chair with wet hair I was told by a male employee when I went back in for them to "fix" it that she has obviously done it so that I wouldn't see how bad it was. When I talked to multiple managers about this they tried to manipulate and gaslight me into not writing a review and refused to refund me the service which I was told by multiple employees I was grossly over charged for. They charged me just under 500$ for "partial highlights and a light trim". I explained to them that she treated me differently when I explained me baby and that we were Jewish they wouldn't respond or even apologize. They like many others around the world would rather pretend it's not happening then stand up or say they are sorry. A salon who not only has employees that orchestrate antisemitism in their daily Routine but stand by it! read more

A few weeks ago, I came in for a consultation with Katie after a long stretch of feeling frustrated with my hair. She listened carefully and validated my concerns. We made a plan together and today I came back. First, from staff to stylists, this is a beautiful, professional environment and I felt so cared for. The space is carefully designed for comfort and efficiency. Big wow! Katie reviewed our plan and patiently answered my many questions. (Impressive!!! I was a little nervous.) The salon is spacious and lively, painted in a fresh palette of white walls and citrus accents. I assume it has superior ventilation because, despite multiple hair color stations, there is no chemical odor. I started getting my hair cut at the Stuyvesant Plaza decades ago, and have never been disappointed. When I turned 50, I began to get my hair colored although I was reluctant to let go of my original unique mix. Bettina is an artist. My first visit to this location was in August 2020, to fix a bad haircut I'd gotten that same weekend. They knew how stressful the other experience had been and Olivia did an amazing job repairing the damage. They also had great Covid-19 protocols in place - waiting outside, temperature taking, and hand-washing for customers and stylist prior to beginning the cut. I had previously gone to the Albany location and left because it seemed like there was high turnover, which always led to mixed experiences - always nice people, but not always a good cut. I will definitely go back to the Latham location and I will gladly give Albany another try if the occasion should arise. That's how happy and relieved I was after this experience. read more

I have always hated getting my hair cut. When I went in for my appointment with Shayna today, my hair was a frizzy, messy, curly mess and it was down to my lower back. She did such an amazing job! She listened to what I wanted, offered her thoughts/ideas, and then gave me such an amazing haircut. Without hesitation, I would recommend Shayna and this salon to anyone and everyone. Such a shame that we aren't able to give them no stars, so here's one they don't deserve. I had arrived before my appointment and was on time but when her other client arrived she began to rush through and disregarded what I wanted. I showed her a picture exactly of what I wanted and asked continuously if she was sure she could provide that for me. She assured me she could so I let her continue. I told her explicitly I DID NOT WANT BANGS IN ANY FASHION, I ASKED FOR FACE FRAMING LAYERS. I did not walk out with face framing layers but with face framing bangs. She asked me when she was done if it was good and I told her no but she did not make an attempt to fix what she had done and was too worried about her other client who had an appointment after me. I was so upset that I didn't demand she fix it right there on the spot and she probably would have done more harm than good. I cried in the chair and the whole way home. I have mixed feelings about this place. Claire the manager, Donna the wig consultant and Susie a stylist and colorist are amazing, helpful and friendly. Loved my hair cut by Susie. However, what you need to know is there is a difference in skill level at these salons. Senior and Junior Stylists. ALWAYS get a senior stylist (Susie is great, she can even fix what goes wrong when a Junior Stylist does a horrible cut which was done on my daughter). But the one thing Susie couldn't fix was how short the junior stylist cut hair (And the Junior stlist isn't even on their website, so I want to know who she is and why my daughter was given to her to do a balayage and a cut. The Junior stylist was told by the my 18 year old daughter to cut no more than an inch off the overall hair length and add laters. A length that took her about 8 months to grow out and then the Junior stylist cut off at least four inches if not more, with a terrible uneven cut and left my daughter in tears. After $185 for color and cut, and a tearful breakdown in the car, we went back in and talked with the manager Claire and said she would have Susie, who just cut my hair, to do the task of "fixing" my daughter's terrible hair cut at no extra cost. The senior stylist helped fix the bad cut to a certain extent to cover up a hole in the length as best she could and make it have more movement instead of looking like a dutch boy, but as you know, the length couldn't be fixed and that was the saddest part and the style is not even remotely close to what my daughter wanted . So if you go here, go with senior stylists only and stay away from the Junior stylist whose name begins with an M and sounds something like Mahlak and isn't even listed on the website. DO NOT GET A CUT FROM MAHLAK (sp?). Why my daughter was given an appointment with this amateur hack cutter is beyond me. She did okay with the coloring but cutting/styling hair is not even close to skilled. We trusted Jean Paul for their reputation and that is why we went there. didn't need my daughter to leave there in tears and then have to have another stylist fix it. I will go back to Susie, but I ONLY trust her. read more

I will definitely be trying a different place next time. My stylist did an excellent job blow-drying my hair - I've never had it dried so fast and smooth before. The cut itself was ok. She didn't ask many questions to understand what I wanted, and didn't tell me what her plans were for the cut. She also didn't fix my bangs at all - she almost seemed scared to cut them. A tiny bit in the front also seemed slightly longer on one side than the other side (I snipped it when I got home). If you know exactly what you want and can speak up to articulate it, this might be a good place for you. But for $58 for just a haircut (before the tip), I would have expected someone who could give more suggestions and help find a cut that would suit my hair type. (P.S. Remember to bring cash - you can't put a tip on your credit card. I had to borrow money from my friend, and then I couldn't find the stylist so the girl at the front desk took it and said she would give it to her.) read more

I have definitely experienced better. A loyal customer for many years my last visit was not what I was used to or what I expected. Due to COVID i asked if they could fit my mom in for a quick cut - and they were accommodating and were able to fit her in. That was great. The thing is - they put her with the most expensive stylist - my mother is 86, her trim took 20 minutes with a 3 minute blow dry. The charge was 85.00. In addition. I attempted to contact the owner to talk about this but did not hear anything back and was told "well our prices went up because we renovated". I didn't ask them to renovate and I was not informed of this when booking my appointment. It honestly felt like the biggest rip off ever, for both of us. I love the stylist I have had there but the prices and the customer service I received have made me boo my next appt elsewhere. read more

I brought my daughter to Jean Paul in Latham to get a haircut. She's a teenager (13) who very rarely gets her haircut as she loves her very long locks. But, it was time to trim about 3 inches off. Well, after more than 6 inches cut off and several layers put in without consultation, my daughter leaves the salon in tears! While thinking my daughter asked for something different, I went with the new look, until we left and she told me about the experience. Mind you, I paid for a designer stylist $47, and gave a generous tip, to only be VERY DISAPPOINTED! I called the manager the following day and explained what happened. She at first questioned whether the layers just made the "3 inches" look shorter, or in fact more than 3 inches were cut off. She obviously didn't understand our frustration. Just because the person that sits in the chair is a young teenager it is very much expected the professional stylist still discuss the clients wants and wishes. We will never be returning! read more

This is BY far THE WORST want A Be upscale salon. They definitely know how to Overcharge. I got a touch-up & haircut and it was $220. They put on my receipt I was charged for 2/3 head of highlights when I got bangs & roots. I asked the manager, Clair, to fix the amount because it's not right paying for something I didn't receive. She told me she could only take off $30 for the new blonde I received since no one told me of all the extra charges. The worst part is I had to go through the holidays and couldn't wear my hair up because it looked so terrible. The entire underneath is all dark & not highlighted. Which is funny because on my first time I was charged for FULL head...I also left several messages to speak with someone else and no one responded. read more

First off, I never write reviews. in fact, I signed up for yelp just to leave this review. It has been just shy of one year since my visit to this salon. i had recently moved from Washington DC to this area and I have been used to spending very high amounts on salon visits. My first reaction to the area has been shocking. a lot of big hair, 1995 esque outfits, i.e. leopard, big hair and lots of red lipstick. which I don't mind from time to time but it seems the norm up here. I had the worst hair cut, style, and color at this salon. The stylist had told me she was moving to NYC shortly after my appointment, can't even remember her name. I realize it is just hair and it grows back, but this salon was way over price for the tacky style, it took over 5 hours as she texted off and on a lot and left me sit in the chair freezing cold. I can now say i have found a wonderful stylist, affordable and after one year of that traumatic visit I can finally laugh about it! lol. awful, awful, awful!!!! I strongly do not recommend if you are new to the area and don't personally know anyone here. I am absolutely sure there are great stylists here, unfortunately I didn't get one of those. :-( read more
