Son is in the JROTC program and needs a hair cut often. We have tried to get into the men's barber next door but the wait has always been long. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a chill vibe, no conversation between by son and hairstylist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The haircut cost $22 on the barbershop next door it's $25. The salon offers military discount but only for the military person. He has cut his hair three times here. Two times by the same person, every time so far has been good. Given the issue of the lady who cut my hair followed instruction of giving me a layered cut and not to cut too much on length, that's about it. Went here because of a recommendation , had to get my hair done before the Lunar New Year. Jacqueline was stylist that was going to work on my hair. I didn't expect that my hair would botched and butcher. I have shown a picture of color style and along with trim of 2 inches. The cut was more than 2 inches and it was literally a straight cut when I came with layers V- shape. As for the coloring service, the highlights and base color did not turn out good. Didn't use toner for the colors and blending steps. When it came to the highlight , my hair was still wet which was when she started to tease and put the highlight colors. I recall from past experience that you don't color hair while it's wet. She couldn't do hair treatment for my hair . After the hair service was done , my highlights look like big blotches of colors and two different colors in different sections. One section gap with no highlights. It didn't look connected nor flow of the colors/highlights. The whole time , I felt like they were gossiping or talking while I was there waiting for the duration. The vibe at that place felt stereotypical of going into nitpicking you bit by bit. Didn't give a welcoming feel once you're there. While I was going through the color service , there was a customer who came in for hair cut and which she was not satisfied with her service due to the cut being too short and not what the customer wanted. I should have left but I had hope that they would do a good job. I was hoping this place can be the place I would go for my hair since my go to hair salon is always busy. But I would rather go back my usual place than go here . I won't be coming back to this place and I wouldn't recommended them. read more

Been going here since I moved to San Diego for almost 15 years. Yesterday I got a cut where I requested a small trim, which was nowhere near what I had requested & they also destroyed my recently permed hair & it's practically completely straight now. I wanted a trim to my CURLY hair, and what I got was a straight coconut-head bowl cut. Came in this morning to get it touched up as the cut not only wasn't what I requested, but also very bad & was upset at the fact that I pretty much wasted money on an expensive perm. Came in with complaints, where the lady was EXTREMELY rude, laughed at my complaint about an unhappy service, raised her voice, talked shit in Vietnamese, talked shit about my complaint to the customer she was working on (as I was also being serviced right then and there) and generally just treated me extremely disrespectfully. I've always been treated well and happy by Kevin, who touched up my hair, so for the 15+ years of service I've given them I chose to still tip him for the fix because of his work with me for over a decade, and that's when she finally gave me an "I'm sorry" and took some actual accountability for their mess up. Overall, this place has gone downhill, deserves all the ratings it gets now. Appreciate Kevin who has worked with me numerously but the customer service was actually so pathetic, a reason why I stopped trusting ONLY this place was because they've gone so downhill, and after today will never go back to this place. read more

By far the best Salon for men in Mira Mesa. I singularly see Andy for my haircut needs. He is meticulous and really takes his time cutting my hair the right way. He has a very good memory and already knows my hair style without having me to tell him. He only does appointments for his regular customers and I can see his schedule is always full each time I visit. That says a lot with his skill as a barber. The salon is close to many of the Asian eateries and supermarkets. Plenty of parking space. read more

I went in and got a haircut today. I was pleasantly surprised to not even have to wait. Sue was the one who cut my hair. I showed her two pictures of how I wanted my hair. I love my long hair. And when it's quite long and it's time to get a haircut, I always get anxious because normally I ask for a trim then they take off more than I'd like. It was about a 20-30 minute haircut. Sue was very good. I'm really happy with the turn out of my cut! It had a little bit of face framing, the final length didn't make me get "haircut remorse," and my hair looks soooo much healthier. My hair also looks a bit more full! I feel good about my next haircut and I'd go to Sue again! read more

Finally, a good haircut for my son! We've tried three other Asian barber shops in the area with horrific results before finding Jeannie's Salon on a Sunday afternoon. There was no wait and the lady who cut my son's hair had to fix a really bad job done at another shop. All my son needs is a simple even cut with bangs that don't look like Jim Carrey from Dumb & Dumber. I'm very happy to have found a place to return for my son's next haircut. Most importantly, mom really likes the haircut and our boy looks so handsome. The boys/men's haircut priced at $10 is competitive with other shops. I'll update this review and give 5 stars if the next haircut is consistently good again. read more

So pissed I that I'm HAVE to give them one star when they deserve -5!! Horrible!! Women don't go here! Men, from observation, if you're not looking for a simple military cut, don't come here. I simply asked for a trim and paid $16 for some cheapass cut. I had my hair tied and she just yanked that shit out, didn't even try to be gentle. Then she goes and not only combs my hair but my face and ears too. Fucking horrific!!! I'm pretty sure she was supposed to wet all my hair before cutting it (as all my previous experience) but she sprayed about 4 times before cutting. How the fuck do you expect the cut to be even when half my hair is wet and the other half is dry?! THEN she burns my hair with a high heat straightener. SMH. Worse part, had to pay $16 for it. I came in a few years ago, but better late than never for a review, right? I had waist length hair and wanted it chopped to a lob length. I physically showed where I wanted my hair to be cut and my stylist snipped to a length that was a little longer than I intended it to be. I asked to get it a little shorter, and she retorted "I have to restart again then". I'm not a stylist, but it can't be that hard to cut hair straight across right? I didn't get any layers or a shape to my hair. I didn't intend to sound entitled but I am paying for the service so I'd expect to have it to my satisfaction. She reluctantly agreed and said something in a different language to the stylist next to her, which I KNEW was a snide remark about me. It happens all the time, so I just told myself to let it go, but the smart alec client next to me responded in English which confirmed they were shit talking about me. Do I look deaf to you? I kept my mouth shut to be the better person, but I definitely won't be coming back here. 3 stars for the decent hair cut, but -1 for the audacity and another -1 for laughing along with your other client. read more

I been to this salon three times and third strike, you're out! The second time was a decent cut and what I wanted done, and is the reason I went back for a third try. My mistake. I showed the person cutting my hair a couple pictures to make sure she understands the cut I want. She obviously didn't understand. I wanted a A frame bob cut, the way it was cut before and which grew out nicely.... What I got was a rice bowl cut. She obviously heard bowl cut instead of bob cut! I like the short flat iron Bob cut, if it is cut smooth straight and even. I was not! I would not recommend this place. This review is for the nail service. I was in the area and I decided to stop in for a manicure and pedicure. They had a special for $25 for both. The employees are nice and friendly but I wasn't thrilled about the nail treatment. The polish was thick and probably sitting on the shelf for a long time so the application was not very smooth. The massage was non existent and my overall opinion about this particular service is negative. The salon seems to specialize in haircuts because they have more chairs for hair services than nail services. It's also strange to get a pedicure in front of so many men getting haircuts. I wish I read the reviews prior!! I went in for a trim, came out with half my hair length gone. I asked for an inch or so cut off all around. Tina easily cut off 3 inches. Previously, I had a wispy layered cut framing my face. Tina cut the most blunt ugly choppy uneven layers. She went scissor crazy. My standards for a haircut are not high and this was by far the worst haircut I have ever received. I had to fix it myself once I got home and did a better job myself. Each customer that walks into Jeannies is greeted with smiles and hellos. Many times I have walked into Jeannies without an appointment nevertheless I have always been placed in a chair getting my hair cut within minutes! This is a definite plus for me. I went here a few months ago to get a men's haircut and I was extremely dissatisfied with the result. My barber did not consider much of what I had asked of her and instead decided to make her own judgements of what to do with my hair. Her judgements happened to be to make my hair uneven and sloppy. The right side of my hair was about an inch longer than the left side. I would not recommend going to this location, as there are much better barbershops/salons to go to if you want a keen and meticulous barber for just a few dollars more. read more

Come here and get a cut from Andy. I got a haircut from him a long time ago at a different location and was amazed then, but I finally found his new spot. He is usually booked so calling in for an appointment would make the most sense, which comes with an extra $3. I came here after work not knowing this, but he was able to squeeze me in before one of his appointments and I was really thankful. Andy really takes his time to make sure you get a great cut. And asking for a line-up, he made sure I was properly lined-up and that it was symmetrical. I take my line-ups seriously and Andy made sure it was sharp as possible. I'll definitely be back. Went here cuz another salon (Ivy's Salon) tried to rip me off. Jeannies is a small place with basically no wait. The gal who did my hair listened to what I wanted and she pretty much read my mind! My original stylist moved out of state so I'm literally "shopping" around for a new one. As much as I get my hair done I am uber picky...as we all should be!! I paid $120 (tip included) and I got color...highlights and cut!! Ivy's salon quoted me over $200 for the same dag gone thing!! Wtf??? I can't even scream demographics cuz they're a couple blocks from each other off the same main road Mira Mesa Blvd! Hell the owner of the Ivy's salon suggested I go to Tijuana if I wanted cheaper work done...I was like "WOW...build a wall where?!" Tijuana doesn't mean bad or shi**y service so why insinuate that?! I was so offended by what he said in regards to that....very offended. What's funny is I vented to the stylist here about Ivy salon and not one stylist said anything negative about Ivy's salon's establishment...not one. Thank you Jeannie Salon for such a fun time at your salon and for my FAB hair!! Y'all rock!! PS I'm only giving 4 stars cuz I have such resilient grays that still show but I went right back and the stylist was gonna fix it that day but I was so busy that she scheduled me for Sat (tomorrow) to rectify the situation. $16 for women's cut! Can't beat that. The girl who cut my hair was very quick and no-nonsense. My A-Line trim took about 30 mins and did not include shampoo. I would have given this place 4 stars if it weren't for a slight mishap in my cut. I didn't realize this until after I came home and showered, but she missed a small section of my hair which didn't get trimmed. This resulted in an awkwardly long, grown out section on the side of my head which I had to cut myself at home. Not a deal breaker since the cut was so cheap, though.
