I have eaten here many many times before and even bought holiday special meals before in the past. It's a middle of the road local family owned establishment. For convenience and to allow more family time without the hassle of cooking and cleanup, we ordered the packaged meals again this year. The workers who were there seemed confused and hurried even though there weren't many people coming in at the time we picked up the meals we had pre-ordered. To our suprise both the quality and portions were not up to their normal standard. The mac & cheese for kids was watery and thin and I had to bake it an additional 40 mins and add cheese to get it edible. We actually had leftovers from slim portions because the meal just didn't seem freshly prepared. Even the squirrels aren't eating these leftovers! We also bought 2 pies. These were undercooked too and relatively tasteless. I think our family would have been more satisfied with selections from the grocery store frozen food isle. I would NOT recommend Jean's Beans for holiday dinners or related fare. read more

How can anyone compare this food to homemade it's about as far from homemade as it can be. I've lived in the area for nearly 40 yrs and it's probably been 20 yrs. since they've put out anything that resembles edible fried food. Over the years I've been back hoping they'd return to putting out food as they did in past years but to no avail. My most recent experience was last month when my wife and I ordered 2 fish fry's with sides and took them home. Neither one of us could eat more than 2 bites it was just that bad. All one has to do is look at the pictures posted and you'll see pre-breaded frozen onion rings, clam strips, and scallops, chicken pieces, as well as mushrooms and other products. You'll see that in each picture the color of the fried food is very dark, now that could indicate it's overcooked or it's fried in dirty oil. It's defiantely the latter the taste of anything fried there is horrific. The breading on the fish and the chicken adds nothing except a bad taste. This in combination with the cooking in dirty oil makes for a bitter taste. This establishment would be better served by developing their own seasoned breading for fish, chicken, and other products and get away from the pre-breaded stuff. As well they need to clean their oil and or replace it much more frequently and to better use their fryers for specific types of food so that the taste of one product isn't influenced by another. As far as the sides go they aren't much better. Anything with pasta like the mac and cheese is over cooked and pasty. Their baked beans don't even resemble baked beans they look like warmed over Grandma Browns. I have gotten some good baked products there, doughnuts, pies and breads continue to be decent. read more

Found Jean's Beans by happenstance. What a find. This place has been in Watertown for more than 60yrs and a great family history. I had the fried Haddock sandwich (Delish). Good food. Friendly staff. They have a food bar, but seating is limited. read more

This was our first time and the costumer service was awesome! Super helpful and just a friendly environment, they were really busy and still took the time to help us out. The atmosphere it self got the 4 stars. The food was good, fried okra and Calamari was the best we've had! However, the fish, chicken, and Mac n cheese were just okay.... also, it's definitely not a sit down restaurant, it's more take out. read more

Excellent food and service. As recommended elsewhere fish fry is awesome. Layout is circular so they can feed a crowd efficiently. Upon entering, move counterclockwise beginning with a friendly chat with the cook who can handle multiple orders at once for the fryer. Or choose from delicious baked dishes across the aisle. Move toward the back to setup your sandwiches, dressings and sides. As you pass the back of the store consider grabbing some fresh baked breads and turnovers (donuts at the front) or pull down a couple bottles of your favorite condiments. Start back toward the front and order your cold or warm side dishes from the friendly ladies behind the counter. Mac Salad was delicious and next time I'll get the quart size to bring home instead of just the 6 oz. side portion. Drinks will be in the cooler behind you. Return to the front to pay and grab any last minute essentials including sauces and plastic ware. Fantastic food and not to be missed. read more

There was a time when the oil was cleaned and changed regularly and the fried food came out golden brown as it should. Those days are gone and it shows in the dark colors and burned taste of their fried foods. Fresh or homemade aren't words I'd use for much of the food prepared at Jean's Beans. Fries are frozen crinkle cut, onion rings also frozen, fish frozen and the scary part for me is that the fish sits breaded and unrefrigerated in pans by the fryers waiting to be ordered. Their beans are like glue, overcooked, mushy and tasteless, mac salad and potato salad are normally overcooked making them also mushy and tasteless. The things they do really well are doughnuts and pies. Much of what I stated can be seen in the photo's submitted by other customers. I can't even speak for the food. I couldn't get that far!! I haven't lived in the north country for years, but I remembered Jean's Bean's as iconic to Watertown. But, oh my!! When we walked in, there was one of the workers standing in the middle of the "prep" area clipping her finger nails!!! One of the other associates looked as though she had not showered in days. Her hair was oily, unclean and uncombed. The associate working in the fryer area had rotting teeth and also looked as though he hadn't showered in a long time. There was a HUGE pile of raw fish out on the counter and looked as though it had been sitting there for quite some time. This place is filthy in every way! I couldn't order any food. I couldn't get past how disgusting this place is. My heart breaks, because I remember as a child this place being a really neat and unique venue. Now, I just want to go in there, gut the place, scrub it clean from top to bottom, hire some people who look as though they shower more than once every two weeks and start over again. If you live in Watertown and you have company visiting from out of the area, please don't expose them to this horribly filthy and disgusting place!!!! read more

I'm not even a huge fish person but was driving by on my way home (not feeling like cooking) and stopped in. Glad I did !! Had the fish and fries with scalloped potatoes as the side. It was a lot of food but ALL delicious ! I haven't lived here long and I'm glad I found this place! read more

I''ve been eating at Jeans for years. They have a variety of foods to choose from ranging from pasta,salads,chicken,and seafood. If you are new to eating here you may be confused as to how the layout works but there is always friendly staff members to help you. My go to meal is the haddock dinner. A large piece of fish,fries,and a side of mac and cheese is enough to fill me up. You get so much for your money it's a guarantee that you will be satisfied. As I said before they have a large variety of foods so even the most picky customers should leave satisfied. What is also a nice touch is they even sell a large variety of homemade baked goods. Dinner rolls,pies,cookies,doughnuts,hamburger rolls and fresh breads are always on display and look amazing. Recently they have gone through slight renovations which added a small eating area inside which is a nice addition. Jeans is a Watertown staple and I'll be eating here for many years to come. read more

Was slightly confused the first time we went but we followed the crowd to figure out how to order. Their chicken sandwich is amazing. Loved the homemade mayo and their onion rings. As for their other side dishes we weren't huge fans of them. The salt potatoes were good, nobody liked the mac and cheese. I must first say the FISH was decent and I do not like fish....so that's saying something BUT.....the side items were horrible.
