Yes, tastings are free at most of the wineries and distilleries in town, but you're paying to get to them all safely (and without the hassle of trying to park) and hit them all in the same day. And I witnessed firsthand that we got more options to sample than people who just came in off the street. It sounds like there used to be an issue with one winery not giving full samples, but they are no longer a stop on the tour. We hit around 9 places: -Smith distillery. We liked this place enough that we returned later in the week. Really great service. The sweet tea flavor was a favorite. -Applewood Farm (two stops with wine and cider). I preferred the cider, actually, and it was nice to try something different. The cider slushies were delicious. Time didn't allow us to return her, but if we stay in Pigeon Forge again, I'd like to explore the Farm a little bit more. -Most of the other wineries blurred together, which isn't a complaint. They served really similar wines and even had similar decor. Most specialize in sweet wines, which isn't normally my thing. Tasting them is still fun, though. We bought a couple of bottles along the way. -Old Forge Distillery. We missed the first half of the tour, but there were still a lot of samples, and we came back on our last day, did another tour, and bought some bottles. Oatmeal cookie and elderflower were two favorites. -Mill Bridge Winery. This was my favorite of the wineries. First, it was really pretty inside. The woman who led our tasting was very knowledgeable, and the range of wines was more unique. We bought a bottle of Indian Summer. -Tennessee Moonshine Company (with an attached winery for tasting). Maybe my least favorite of the distilleries, but it was still pretty good and had some unique flavors. -Junction 35. This place was way more modern than the other spots, and it was a good ending to the tour. We wound up coming back here, too. We enjoyed getting to know the other people on the tour. I think there were 22 of us total, which was a decent number. The bus was pretty hot/cramped, but I think that should be a given. We weren't on it for more than 15 minutes at a time, so it wasn't a big deal. I would definitely suggest this tour to other adults looking for a fun way to spend a few hours.

What a great decision! My husband commented that we should have started our week this way (instead of our last day). We went to a section to hike that we never would have tried (as it's on the Highlands Cashiers Land Trust) that was a beautiful hike with amazing views. Justin was a delightful guide, providing a rich history of the area. We also enjoyed talking geology with Justin, who was a wealth of information. Even if you've been to Highlands & Cashiers many times, treat yourself to a Highlands Excursion to see the beautiful waterfalls, mountain ranges & more. You won't regret it! On Wednesday, December 10, around 2:45 AM, I was abandoned at a Love's rest stop in FairPlay, South Carolina, by the driver of Greyhound bus US0670. I have been made aware that this driver's name is Monica. This bus was Charlotte-bound and scheduled to leave the Atlanta bus station at 12:40 AM. A few hours into the trip, the driver pulled into the aforementioned rest stop to allow the passengers on board to stretch their legs and grab snacks, informing all of the passengers that we had twelve minutes before we would get back on the road to continue the trip. Two other passengers and I used this time to run into the Arby's attached to the Love's rest stop to grab something to eat. We waited for our orders for around seven minutes when we heard the bus honk to announce its departure, at which point the three of us scrambled outside to board before any of our orders were even ready. The bus then began to take off as we hastily made our way toward it. We began to pursue the bus, frantically waving and knocking at the door as Monica ignored us and continued slowly driving away. She even came to a lengthy, complete stop at a stop sign before an intersection, and still decided to drive off, leaving the three of us behind in a state of panic and confusion. The egregious showcase of unprofessionalism and ignorance by this driver was wildly dangerous, as it left us in an unfamiliar town hours away from another bus station and with no means of transportation. There is no telling what could have happened to us during the three hours that we were essentially stranded, and this driver's actions in that moment demonstrated how little she cared about our safety. I was fortunate enough to be picked up by my father, who drove 3 hours to FairPlay to retrieve me. My mother informed me, upon retrieving my possessions from the Charlotte bus station, that immediately after our abandonment, the passengers aboard the bus vehemently protested and urged the driver to turn around and retrieve us. She, of course, chose to ignore them. She even went as far as to kick another passenger off the bus because of how unrelenting his protests were. Even after I have unrelentingly tried to make Greyhound Customer Service aware of the disgusting treatment we faced from this driver, they have denied my request for a refund. Moral of the story, I repeat, Greyhound does not care about their customers. They WILL NOT do right by you when they wrong you.
