Cool restaurant concept... food quality is a different story. It's my first time trying revolving sushi, and I like the "fun element" it adds to the meal! You either: order fresh from a menu, or choose from a conveyor belt of continuously-moving labeled sushi dishes. Take the plate and they cost $3.50 each. You slide dirty dishes into a slot and they tally up your bill. If you order fresh from a menu, your order gets custom-delivered higher above by a separate "food train" that arrives at your table. Very cool concept that I enjoyed! On the contrast, sadly, I found the food quality to be average. Some sushi's were solid (Spicy Girl and Godzilla rolls, Seaweed Salad). Others tasted like buffet-quality sushi, which is... fine but not great. The Sweet Shrimp tasted bland. Worst was the Tonkatsu Ramen, which likely had unwashed bamboo shoots. They made the entire dish smell and taste like rotten water. That was a bummer considering it cost $15. Overall, this is worth a visit just to enjoy the fun concept and get some decent sushi. But it'd be elevated with higher food quality. read more

I've been here a few times now and it's always packed BUT, you can add yourself to the Yelp wait list instead of going in and joining the list at the restaurant which I love and appreciate. It's very reasonably priced although the most popular rolls are usually out of stock. You can request them on the iPad though and you'll get them in about 5-20 min depending on how busy they are. Their selection is good, but I wish they had more specialty rolls. Their deserts are good, and the atmosphere is very chill even when packed. Overall I'd give it a 9/10! read more

Toku is such a fun and refreshing addition to the Lexington food scene, which can feel a bit basic at times. The revolving sushi concept is already an experience on its own, but Toku takes it up a notch with the train that delivers your sushi orders right above the belt and even a robot that brings dishes to your table--it's interactive, unique, and memorable! Service was excellent--our waiter checked in frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. Ordering is also super easy with the iPad at each table, so if you don't see the roll you want on the belt, you can just order it fresh. The food was good overall. The ramen leaned a bit salty but was still tasty. The sushi rolls were delicious, and the Granola Roll really surprised us--the whipped cream and salmon combination actually worked! We're still working up the courage to try sashimi, so I can't review that yet, but we'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. I highly recommend Toku, not just for the food but for the whole experience. Pretty solid sushi spot. Interior is clean and inviting, staff were friendly and quite helpful, and the iPad ordering system was fairly intuitive making it easy to order rolls that weren't available the time on the revolving conveyor belt. Once ordered they showed up in the separate track in a timely way. The sushi itself was also fairly good, fresh and tasty. The amount per plate was also quite reasonable and pricing was very fair. It's amazing! The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star was because the sushi is usually lukewarm or warm instead of being cold. I came on a Saturday afternoon, and as you might have read through some of the other reviews, the conveyor might be a little empty when it gets to you. I sat on the very first booth coming out of the kitchen and it was still pretty empty. You can order specialty items through the tablet, which come to you in a cool little robot. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is pretty fun. I get uber excited when I find revolving sushi joints - I love them and sadly we do not have any in Louisville. We were spending the day in Lexington and decided to check out Toku. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty disappointed. We sat next to the conveyor belt and the whole time there was hardly anything on it... The plates were empty by the time they got to us, and we were sitting in the middle of the restaurant. If there was anything, it was the same two or three rolls, with no card or anything to tell you what it was. The rest of the food you could get was on a tablet, and it was also pretty lackluster. I'm not too picky with my sushi, but there were only a few items that were appealing. I also ordered truffle fries, which on the photo looked like shoestring and covered in truffle oil, yet when I got them it looked nothing like the picture, but frozen-looking crinkle fries. The one sushi roll I did like off the menu though was pretty good, I'll give it that. The staff were also nice and attentive. I really wanted to like this place more. I wouldn't completely rule it out and may try it again in the future to see if anything's changed. read more

We've been to Toku multiple times now and it's quickly becoming our go to sushi spot. I've been spoiled by having really good sushi in Hawaii so finding something good in Kentucky was a chore. I love Toku's sushi and sashimi. Plus the conveyor belts and trains are just plain fun. My favorite is the Godzilla and the dynamite rolls, but I like some crunch on my rolls. Toku tends to sauce their rolls heavily, that might be a mainland thing. And the pepper ahi I tried was a bust, it had a weird lemon aftertaste but everything else was delicious and we will of course be back. read more

I love that Lexington got another conveyor belt sushi (after a decade of losing the last one) but this is not great. The conveyor had mostly fried rolls (sad panda), no nigiri's, and mostly empty. We ended up just ordering from the menu. Very sad excuse of conveyor belt sushi. But I understand, the majority of the customers were loving the fried rolls so it makes sense that they only had those on the conveyor. It seems like a waste of energy to even run the conveyor. Due to the fact that they have mostly empty conveyor plates and no variety, everyone is ordering a la carte. This is likely causing the sushi chefs to be backed up from a la carte orders so they can't fill the conveyor belt plates. I hope they figure this out soon. Maybe try eating at another successful conveyor belt sushi for inspiration. Note: the first plate of nigiri came by after 20 minutes of mostly empty plates coming by. On to the actual food: - they ran out of scallop (sad), it was good! - the nigiri rice is awful, breaks/falls apart so easily. Does not taste great. Please experiment more with sushi rice recipe. It really does make or break a nigiri when the rice is bad. - we got the wrong orders from the carts (this happened 3 times). It's fairly hard to track down someone on the floor to notify them when this type of issue happens. We didn't want to take someone else's food. But the cart won't leave. Not sure what to do in this situation.' - the matcha tiramisu was not tiramisu (the top layer was hard, because it's ice cream). Regardless still pretty tasty matcha. Just don't expect tiramisu consistency - the uni was delicious! I wish we had time to get more but after waiting so long for the first order of uni, we just stopped ordering. - ordered the pepper tuna, got peppered mackerel? I think they confused the fish. That's fine, still good. - We did not receive some of our a la carte orders: missed one plate of tuna with yuzu, two plates of squid, and a plate of negitiro gunkan. Also, the gacha machines did not work. Overall, not the best revolving sushi experience (even for Lexington). I miss School conveyor sushi. But, there's potential. We loved Toku!!! First customers in for lunch and the concept is revolving sushi on a belt. However if there's anything you want, you order it and a CAR comes to deliver it to your table (see video for details). Sushi was pretty good and since we were early tasted fresh. We loved the seared salmon, Toku signature, crab Rangoon, and the wasabi hulk the most. We did try the matcha tiramisu which I liked because it is a bit heavy on the matcha. Service was good despite it being only two people and a huge crowd waiting for food. We were very impressed and will be back. Love the ambience too with paddles written with Japanese sayings and some games to play. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? I'm glad I found this sushi go round in Lexington. I usually have to drive all the way to Ohio. I really liked the variety of sushi. I tried many rolls I hadn't heard of before. All very tasty. I think I only didn't like one roll that had mango on it . The waitress checked on us quite a bit which was great although we didn't need anything. I would say the only bad thing to me is that it's a bit pricey about $1 more per plate than I'm used to. But that aside I will surely go back as it's a great option in Lexington. read more

Toku revolving sushi was a pleasant dining experience with a couple of drawbacks. Upon walking in, you can see that there has been a lot of commotion about the opening of the first revolving sushi restaurant in Lexington. As expected, the wait time was an hour, which was totally fine with us. We sat at the bar and had a drink while we waited. Upon being seated at our table, the waiter explained how to operate the iPad to order sushi and how we would be charged. The food itself was average, comparable to any of the other sushi restaurants in town. In terms of the uniqueness of the conveyor belt experience, We learned that seating was very crucial to enjoying the conveyor belt experience. We were seated near the end of the conveyor belt, meaning that all the other tables on 1/2 of the revolving sushi portion of the restaurant would be able to select the miscellaneous food prior to us. This meant that they were long stretches of time where no food would reach us on the conveyor belt. Ordering through the iPad would allow us to have a remote car on a separate belt deliver food directly to our table to avoid delays in the main conveyor belt. Unfortunately, there were multiple dishes that we had ordered multiple times that never arrived to our table, and yet the dishes still appeared on our bill. This made figuring out payment much more difficult. We only saw our waiter twice throughout the entire dining experience, Service was similar to what you would get at a buffet as the majority of the process is automated. As I mentioned before, the restaurant was incredibly busy and new, so I imagine some of these kinks will work themselves out over the coming months. I will try this restaurant again in a couple months after things have calmed down, but I would go more for the experience as the food is nothing special. read more
