Holy S*** Long story short. My girlfriend and I wanted to take my family to local taco before my brother's high school football game. We're from the nky area and visit lex often to see friends and the city. Local tacos line was out the door at 6:30 on a Friday. Little brother's game started at 7:30. I found this place by just walking across the street. Not too busy, but we were over the threshold on time. We were inevitably going to be late to the game and were pretty much accepting it with our attitudes shifting. The owner I assume, came STRAIGHT to our table as he noticed something was off and got us speedy service without even asking us our situation, he just knew. I kid you not. For a family of 6, we got all of our food in less than 10-15 minutes after ordering. I'm talking lo-mein, multiple rolls (one was even a fried roll that takes longer and more care), we got crab rangoon, even poke. The mood shifted. He gave us an extra 10-12 minutes to enjoy the food and just overall being there. Go eat here, this is a dedicated man that cares about his restaurant service, quality, and craft. Ordered Ginger Wasabi as takeout (we're 5 minutes away) and wasn't really impressed. We've previously ordered via DoorDash and remembered it being good, but tonight our food was greasy and not well prepared. We ordered general Tso's and the chicken portion was tiny compared to the lo mein and was both soggy and overly chewy; we didn't mean to get lo mein, but it was my mistake as I selected lo mein instead of white rice. Not their fault, but that being said, our very unpicky teens did not like the lo mein - it was very greasy. Chicken fried rice had a ton of chicken but not much flavor and was also greasy. Also cost extra to add egg. Teriyaki chicken was a hit with the teens and we only order it as a side to save $ because there's always more than enough rice from other entrees. Ginger wasabi does really bring it with the appetizers, and the dumplings, crab rangoon and spring rolls were gone in a flash and were all excellent - perfectly cooked and tons of flavor. One teen tried their boba tea and was not happy with it - the mango was very floral and overpowering. All in all, this was a hit and miss experience and we will likely not order from here again except for maybe appetizers as there are other similarly priced options with more consistent preparation. After the renovations, I wanted to come to Ginger Wasabi to have a look at the new bar and dining areas. It looks great inside, but I still chose to take my food to-go out of convenience. I normally get the sushi but was told that the bento boxes are a really good deal. It's ~$14 for a classic sushi roll (8 pieces), two crab Rangoon, rice, teriyaki entree of your choice and a salad. After tip and tax, it was closer to $17. I agree, it was a great amount of food for what I paid! That said, I wasn't a huge fan of everything I ordered. I enjoyed the teriyaki salmon and I liked the ginger dressing on the salad. I think the crab rangoon would have been better dine-in to keep it warm and crispy-- I wasn't a huge fan of the cream cheese but that is my personal preference. The fried rice was a bit heavy for me as well, but my roommates really enjoyed it. The best part of the bento box for me was the sushi roll. I am keeping my review at 5 stars because overall, it is still a great meal for the price. The value makes it easier to try something new without regret. Yum! I love Sakura at the mall, but it's always a hassle driving there and fighting people. This place is close to campus but SOOO GOOD. I like them for two very important reasons: decent portions and their sushi is pretty solid! There are a bunch of places around town that do sushi, but I don't think anyone's quite gotten down the concept of going quick (well, maybe Kroger, but they premake their rolls). These guys come close! Teriyaki bowls are loaded with veggies, the rolls come out quite fresh, and we got served within 15 minutes. I enjoyed this place on my first visit and I can't wait to come back and sample more of the menu! I saw the free California roll on the Hooked app and I wandered in one evening after a disappointing visit to another place in the neighborhood that left me still hungry. I got my free Cali roll and also ordered the avocado salad. My husband got the philly roll and that was delicious - definitely will get that one again next time. I loved the avocado salad, it was only $4 and came in a pretty big container with lots of avocado and ginger dressing. It was very good and tasty. we took our food to go but I love the atmosphere here and I am planning to come back and dine in very soon. First off, this place charges like a full service restaurant, which they are not. So I ordered pork dumplings and a dragon roll. The pork dumplings where the same thing you can buy at Costco but they FRIED them. They fried them on a flat grill and burned the rice to get the centers defrosted and warm. They were served drenched in oil in a basket. My sushi was served in an appealing manner. It looked good, till you flip it on the side and look at what you are eating. See picture, very little fish, lots of cucumber and rice. I do not think there was anything to this 'delux' roll than rice, seaweed paper, cucumber, avocado (used to displace the skimpy fish), and perhaps 2-3 oz of fish. As a first I found bones in my sushi, took a picture of that also. Can not recommend this place. All sushi places make a killing but these guys are shooting for 16-18 bucks a head for rice and cucumber without any service. This was the second time I've online ordered and picked up from this amazing little sushi place since covid19. Super easy online ordering, they even let you pay with Venmo! My favorite place for sushi and Chinese food in Lexington. The food is amazing quality and the prices are the best I've seen. I've used DoorDash and dined in and both experiences are always wonderful. They have a plethora of vegan and vegetarian options which I love. The restaurant has recently expanded and added a nice bar area which I've also visited a few times. I really enjoyed the curated cocktail menu and tried a few drinks, one of which is the soju cocktail which was recommended by the bartender and it was amazing. It's only going factor is that it is cheap, but I can get better quality at Kroger or the hospital. The eel roll was 90%cucumber with MAYBE a small piece of eel in the piece. However many pieces were without. The spicy salmon was. . . Lacking to say the least but I also had minimum expectations and at least each piece had actual fish in it. The wildcat roll was alright, fairly devoid of flavor and drowned in sauce. So, if you want cheap sushi, this is the place just do not get any moderately high expectations. Edit: I have increased my rating. After expressing my dissatisfaction they reached out to me personally and apologized for my dislike of the food and that they stand by their food and services. Sushi is very similar to Kroger sushi and it ranges from $5-$12. Chicken teriyaki is $7 and it's enough to feed me for 3 days honestly. This is not quality Asian. I do not think that ginger wasabi has good sushi, and it would be sad if you thought they did. It's definitely cheap- and you are getting what you pay for. You're better off going to Kroger... They rolls are skinny and thin, not packed. I had sushi and gyoza, so I can't speak for their bowls.
