I stopped by Sumo Hibachi & Sushi to try their Tofu Hibachi. There are not many places that serve tofu with their Hibachi dishes so I was excited to try it out. I sat at the bar where sushi is made. I did not order sushi but I did not like that the sushi was put on the counter where there may have be guest sitting near it, potentially exposing the food to others' germs before it was served. Also, one of the sushi preparers (asian man with blonde hair and ball cap) was coughing freely without covering his mouth while preparing the sushi rolls. I ordered Tofu Hibachi (no onion) with miso soup and French fries with no salt/seasoning. The miso soup was warm but not piping hot like I am used to getting from other restaurants. The tofu was fried yet still silky. I would have liked the tofu to be firmer but it was pretty good. My rice had onion and egg in it (ordered without onion and I forgot egg comes in fried rice), the server remembered I wanted no onion and I asked for no egg and he was quick about getting a replacement for my fried rice. I would have loved to have more vegetables as it was a small portion of them. Some tips 1. Have a separate area for the sushi to be picked up by the servers instead of placing the sushi on the counter in front of the bar, as there could be patrons right near the food as it is waiting to be picked up 2. Adding more vegetables would be great or at least equal parts vegetables and rice for the vegetables Hibachi options (tofu and vegetable hibachi) 3. If staff have a cough/cold and they prepare food/handle food directly, wearing a mask, covering mouth or the staff stepping away from food when coughing would be great to see. The biggest win is the ability to order all you can eat from the menu for $28! My son would have been in sushi heaven. Plus, because you can order throughout the menu, you can mix sushi with hibachi, which is great. We weren't that hungry, so we all ordered from the regular menu, which I like as an option. Great choices and reasonable prices. I ordered the chirashi and it was very good. The hibachi steak and chicken katsu were also good. Service was a little slow, but it's a big restaurant with both an inside and outside area and they were crowded. I wanted a beer, but they didn't have any IPAs on the menu, so I stuck with water and a beer in the hotel room afterwards. I came here a few weeks ago with a couple friends for the first time and it was wonderful! The servers were friendly and attentive. The ambiance is cozy and there is a lot of seating so there isn't usually a problem getting seated (we were seated right away when we came around 7 pm!). Ordered over the phone for sushi to-go and off the bat they charged me for the wrong order when I came in-- $134 instead of $24. They were very apologetic and voided the charge but I was alarmed at the lack of attention. The bag was tied closed, so I didn't see that I was only given five pieces with the shrimp tempura roll until I got home. It doesn't explicitly say how many you will get, but it looked carelessly made with large pieces sticking out on both ends. The shrimp tempura was not crispy and didn't seem fresh. For the other two rolls, spicy Cali and salmon avocado, there was very little rice with empty spots on the nori.
