I feel like most of us are excited about joining a health club, and more often than not, we bypass the understanding that all gyms have yearly fees and cancellation fees; this is completely normal. In my opinion, the highlights of this gym include the space and variety of rooms available to ensure a great workout. They offer 2-3 different machines for the upper, mid, and lower body, which is great! For advanced fitness enthusiasts, this means you won't have to wait to complete your workout routine. For beginners, I highly recommend hiring one of their skilled personal trainers to start your fitness journey the right way. Any day is a good day to practice self-care. So far, one of my favorite machines is the standing hamstring curl; this machine is a gem, and I'm super happy they have it. The gym is clean, the bathrooms are neat, the weights are organized, and they offer spray bottles with towels for you to wipe down the machines after every use. I have yet to try the classes and provide feedback, or the smoothie bar, hydro massage, and sauna. Eventually, I will. This health club has a lot to offer for everyone, no matter what fitness level you are at. I'm glad I started going here, and I'm looking forward to making new friends.

I first walked into the studio with several sports injuries and an extremely limited idea of what Pilates even was. The owner, Barb, is truly wonderful, and took the time to ask me about what my fitness goals were, what my current issues were, and where I would like Pilates to take me. My formerly problematic hamstrings and badly healed rotator cuff injury no longer pain me, thanks to careful and expert instruction at the hands of the Pilates Connection staff. Every instructor is highly trained, really down to earth, and very talented. They want to help you become your best YOU, and not in a cheesy way either: Pilates helps you inside and out. I've become so much more aware of how my body moves, and my flexibility is lightyears better- not to mention the amazing toning and strengthening benefits! Also, there is no judgment at the studio. I was new to her class that day, but I've taken Step classes at other gyms for years. She is very intense and after noticing that I made a few mistakes on her steps only 15 minutes into the class, she walked over, told me "STOP STOP STOP", and ripped the risers out from under me. I was so offended. If you want new clients to continue taking your classes, you need to ENCOURAGE them at the level that THEY believe is right for them. You as the instructor do not determine that. She was constantly shouting and gave ZERO alternative steps for beginners. You either picked it up or she kept yelling. It was a great workout because she was so intense and that's why I rated the class two stars, but if you are a beginner, you will feel so discouraged with her. SPENGA is new to the Ann Arbor community. Overall five…read morestars. Here are my favorite things: when you walk in, there are readily accessible lockers. So go ahead and bring your water bottle, winter coat, keys and wallet. You can set your own code. It costs zero extra dollars to use a locker. They're white with an access code and very useful to use. SPENGA went out of their way to make sure you are ready to work out. Extra tampons in the bathroom. Hair ties or ear plugs or gum to grab if you need it at the front desk. Really friendly and smiling faces greet you as you walk in. If you come early enough and are working out with a friend, you can request your bikes to be next to each other. The staff are SO personable that they'll make a note if you are friends with someone so next time you come in they'll put your bikes together. I mean come on! That's service! I have a hard time in my own life to figure out who I'm friends with , lol! Their equipment is all brand new and their facility is clean, updated, and modern. My personal favorites are how long and new their yoga mats are. I can stretch out fully on it without touching the floor. The first time I used their mat I was surprised how new it felt. The bikes are all new cycling tech. They have enough weights for everyone to have a station so you don't have to share which is nice if you want to adjust your weights. SPENGA is three parts. Spin, strength, and yoga. It feels like you're going clubbing inside. They show you which section you are doing by illuminating with lights the section you're working out. Everything else is in the dark. It makes the workout feel more exclusive, like you're part of some cool club. It took me about 2.5 sessions to fully understand how to adjust the resistance of my bike to make my "bar" light up green. The spin portion was by far the hardest to understand what was going on. Go 20 to 30 min early so an instructor can assist you. Once you get the hang of it, it's a good workout. The music is awesome. Just be prepared to have watery legs and a sore bum. I would love strength more if there were less transitions during the very quick 20 min. The workout definitely had me sweating! So it's a good workout. It just moves way too fast for me. I'd rather do just a couple of movements in that time period. The workouts are a combination of using dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, steps, and medicine balls. I love the yoga part because I never stretch in my life, lol. I would recommend to the instructors that some of your audience has never done yoga before and are unfamiliar with the names. So demonstrating instead of just announcing is helpful. They have blocks and straps for ppl like me who are inflexible. But Like I said this is my favorite part. I feel really accomplished at the end of yoga. I love it. Overall, I find SPENGA to be really pricey. I don't think I can commit to their higher prices. If they lowered their one time visits I would go more. However it is a great workout and a great atmosphere. The coaches are kind and pumped and great at what they do. The facility is impeccable. I definitely recommend anyone to go and check it out. I have not regretted going when I went. I've done about five sessions and always left feeling great.

I won't be returning. I had been attending classes for 2 months. Just after purchasing a new month…read moreto month unlimited membership, and their holiday special punch card I was scheduled for surgery. I informed them of this and asked what would happen regarding my membership. It was told to me this wasn't uncommon, it would be ok to pause the membership and to speak with the owner. My last class was the week of Christmas and the owner wasn't there. When I returned to class and spoke with the owner she said she couldn't allow people to stop coming to class, start back up when they felt like it, and expecting to still have their membership. Throughout the conversation I explained to her several times that I didn't just stop coming, I had surgery and couldn't attend. By this time other people were there and able to hear the conversation. Because of this, I suggested we discuss it further after class. She then said I should have informed them that I would be having surgery and the best she could do was to give me 7 days. I explained to her that I had informed them ahead of time and was told it wouldn't be an issue pausing membership until I was able return. It was at that time that she said she needed to start class. It was an embarrassing experience and very unprofessional. I found a place closer to home less expensive for the amount of classes, and more welcoming.

The atmosphere here is so welcoming, and all the instructors are extremely helpful and always available to answer any questions I have regarding the exercises we are doing. It's great to be able to take a large variety of "specialized" fitness classes like pilates, barre, and HIIT and circuit training at a location that doesn't lock you into a pricey membership and lets you pay per class or via packages as you go! I've been so much more motivated to work out since I've started attending class here, and the special fitness challenge events, workshop classes, and meal prep events have helped me a lot outside the gym too.
