We went a little before 5 on a weeknight so had no wait. Our server was attentive and drinks were prompt. I had the 1/2 blue wedge salad which was large, crisp, and incredibly delicious! The huge loaded baked potato with pulled pork was excellent but I did ask for shredded cheese instead of the cheese sauce. My kids said the pulled pork and Mac and cheese was really good. The rub on the smoked chicken was a little spicier than expected. My Dad got ribs which were meaty and tender, but you have to sauce them at the table. Our family ate at Jefferson St BBQ tonight. The food was fantastic --- we had ribs and brisket, plus corn muffins and some fantastic white bean chili. Prices were very reasonable and the service was great. Wish we lived closer but we'll remember this meal long after we're back in San Diego. read more

We like to ride our motorcycle with friends to Jefferson Street. Sometimes they run out of menu items, but you can usually find a good substitute. The cornbread is delicious. I usually go for the chicken or beef brisket wrap. I like their BBQ sauces but that is very individual. If you like cheesecake, they have quite a few, including a bacon one! Generous portions mean you could have leftovers for lunch the next day. Parking on the street but you don't have to pay and the street is wide. All sides are good and Hoosier-style, complimenting the smoked meats. Service is great, and always helpful. If you like BBQ, this definitely is a stop to make! read more

I'm not a big meat eater and yet Jefferson St BBQ is my go to dinner spot. How they can serve brisket and sides for the price is unbelievable to me. Whether its the nachos with chicken, the tacos with pulled pork, the enormous baked potato that I can make 2 meals of, or just a big bowl of white chicken chili, its always delicious. By evenings end, they do sometimes run out of things because its made fresh every day. I strongly suggest eating whatever is left !! read more

I would recommend the 'Big Nasty' or nachos! The small bites nacho with chicken is unbelievable and big enough for 4 as an app! We went when it wasn't that busy 3pmish on a Friday so our service was prompt. I love that they use local ingredients to the meat being raised just a few miles away. I am lucky enough to have an office near this establishment and their lunches are consistently outstanding. Everything is tasty, authentic, and exceptionally prepared. Visiting for lunch is a great way to avoid the long lines of the dinner crowd. The brisket is my favorite but you can't really go wrong with any of the meat dishes. Fantastic food, great service. This was my first time at Jefferson Street BBQ and boy was I pleased. The ribs were juicy, not over cooked like so many places. They had a good char on the ends with the dry rub, wow. I used the spicy sauce and it mixed well with out being too spicy. My wife had the brisket which was also perfectly done and juicy. The beans had a great smoky flavor, the cole slaw was creamy and clearly not food service slaw. The jalapeno corn bead was sweet with just a hint of jalapeno. I wish it had a bit more jalapeno but I will take too little over too much. I really like how they try to use local ingredients, even the wood for the decor is local. That is just being good people. I also discovered a new beer there that is made in Indy, Wee-Mac Scottish Style Ale. Loved it, now I just have to find where to get it by the case. We also stopped next door to check out the soap company. Everything in there was very affordable and we got to spend time with the beautiful two store cats. My daughter purchased a couple of items and got 10% off because we ate at the BBQ next door (they are owned by the same people). It was a good evening. read more

I was visiting a friend in Marion and her cousin asked if she had eaten there. We went on a Friday night. Sat outside. Weather was great. Server was on top of things. We had a hard time choosing what to order because everything looked yummy. I ended up ordering the Pick two meat combo. I chose pulled pork and Italian sausage. I got to choose two sides with it so I selected green beans and potato salad. It came with a piece of their jalapeno corn bread which was soft, sweet and very tasty. The green beans were a bit tasteless but the addition of salt and pepper made them good. Potato salad had shredded cheese sprinkled on top and was very awesome. The pulled pork was out of this world. Best I've ever had. The Italian sausage was awesome too (I ordered the spicy Italian sausage!) For dessert I ordered a slice of Sugar Cream pie. It was something new for me but it did not disappoint in the least. I was thoroughly impressed with my visit to Jefferson Street BBQ and will definitely go again when I am in their neck of the woods. read more

Nice to get away from the hustle & bustle to drive to this small friendly town for BBQ. It feels like a mini vacation but not too far from home. Getting down to the business of food, I think the brisket takes highest honors. It was served in 1/2" slices and was juicy & tender a lot like pot roast. I showed up today at 5pm and ordered the Wabash in order to have 3 meat items. Brisket, 1/4 chicken dark meat which was very good quality, and ribs. A few weeks earlier I got a half rack of ribs and when I finished asked for the 2nd half for an upgrade to full slab. I arrived hungry & left full. That day the ribs were hitting the spot slightly smaller than today's ribs but I craved them heavily as I was eating them. The sides were outstanding. I especially like the baked beans. They had excellent green beans southern style. The baked potato was done on the smoker which I like. This place has potential for being near perfect. I don't know if they read these reviews but if I could speak to the chef I would only make a few adjustments. First be careful not to over cook the ribs or allow them to stay too warm while they wait for the plates. Second I would add apple wood perhaps cherry and of course I think they already have hickory which is good. While waiting for customers it's good to keep the meat moist and to not over heat it after it's done. I tend to like a good bbq sauce already on ribs and chicken and a unique sauce for brisket. I'm ok with what they do because it pleases more people to have the sauce bottles on the table. The sauce is very good too. I very much like the fact that the food arrives quickly on a rectangle tray perfect size for all the food to fit. read more

And they argued that we didn't order it and you are going to have to pay for it. I visited this place for the first time recently. I was very disappointed. Once I was seated, my waiter promptly came to the table. He asked what we wanted to drink then immediately asked if we were ready to order. We said NO. He then said we would need to order quickly so that we could get what we want before they run out. He stood at our table until we ordered. My wife and I were basically forced to order without reviewing the menu and/or asking any questions. After we ordered, our food arrived within a few minutes. We ordered the Mississinewa, which included 4 meats and 4 sides. We ordered brisket, chicken breast, pulled pork, and ribs for the meats. We ordered jalapeno cornbread muffin, white chili, and 2 sides of mac n cheese. All of the food except the chili arrived somewhere between cool and slightly warm. The brisket was OK, but I only received 2 small slices on my plate. The chicken was good. It had a good flavor and was cooked just right. The pulled pork was very dry and flavorless. The ribs were horrible. I had to use a knife to cut the meat off of them. However, the rub that was used on them had a great flavor. As for the sides, the white chili was excellent!!! The mac n cheese was OK. The cornbread muffin is a joke. The menu clearly states a corn bread muffin as a side; nothing is misrepresented. However, when our tray arrived, and we seen our three nicely proportioned sides, and 1 tiny little muffin we were disappointed. And, to add insult to that, the muffin wasn't that great. read more

The BBQ is good if they have any available. They consistently have multiple menu item "sold out" so you end up with a choice of leaving hungry or buying whatever is available. They serve the food on quaint metal trays which look rustic and interesting when served. The bad news is that the metal seems to suck the heat right out of the food. So eat up quick because everything cools off fast. The Cilantro Mohito is an excellent cocktail. Highly recommended. The place is popular and you often have to wait for a table in the moderately sized dining area. The system to call you to your table is for the staff to stick their head out the front door and yell your name. So don't wonder off or quit paying attention. Cell phone coverage is sketchy in this area and the Jefferson St BBQ does not offer their patrons any WiFi access. If you intend to use a Groupon make sure you have it downloaded and saved before you get there because you won't be able to retrieve it once you get there. read more

This is an extremely popular establishment but, in the 3 times I have been there I can't say I'm particularly happy with the food. It's just ok in my opinion. I know some reviews say the meat has a wonderful smoky flavor and was very juicy and/or tender, but that has not been my experience. Perhaps those reviewers have not experienced REALLY good pulled pork or brisket so don't realize this is substandard. We both got pulled pork on this visit and, while the portions were above average, the meat lacked flavor and was dry. My philosophy is that "good BBQ does not need sauce" but I put sauce on this to give it some moisture and some flavor. Our first visit was a long, long time ago - not long, I believe, after they first opened. We were not impressed then and, consequently, did not return for a long time. So many people rave about the place that we finally felt that we should give it a try again. Sorry but we were still disappointed. Wait staff is pleasant but there are no acoustics and when they are busy it is very noisy - very. We waited quite some time for our food which I can tolerate when a place is busy so long as the food is worth the wait. Can't say that this was. read more

The wife and I drove 45 minutes on a Friday afternoon, arriving around 4:45 pm to check out the BBQ here. Service (Elizabeth) was good, but she never asked how the food was, just "are you guys doing okay?". I wonder if she purposely avoided that question? Elizabeth kept a good eye on our beverages and made sure we were never without. My wife ordered the pulled pork and brisket, and she also got cole slaw and jalapeno cornbread as sides. She told me her meal was "okay", except for the slaw which was half liquid, half slaw, not good. I ordered the brisket, italian sausage, baby back ribs, sides of slaw, jalapeno cornbread, and baked beans. Sad to say, but the cole slaw was the best part of my meal. I actually thought it was good slaw, having nowhere near the amount of liquid that my wife had gotten in hers. My brisket was only fair, with the crusty outside being the best part, but the inside had little flavor and wasn't very tender. The italian sausage tasted like sausage you could buy in any grocery store, pretty generic. The jalapeno cornbread tasted like plain old cornbread, and the baked beans bore a very strong resemblance to the canned Heinz brand beans that my Mom used to heat up with dinner when I was a child. The baby back ribs were the very worst part of the meal, very dry, tough, and having very little meat on them. I ended up mixing their two types of sauce (sweet, and spicy) to make the meats more edible. The sweet sauce is waaay too sweet. The spicy was much better. I ended up using only the spicy sauce for the meats. As a retired military guy who's eaten BBQ in all the different regions of our country, I can only rate this meal at Jefferson Street in the bottom 20% of all the BBQ I've tried. The restaurant itself was noisy and very informal, just like a BBQ joint should be, radio going, tv going, people talking very loudly - nice atmosphere! Maybe we just got a bad meal, or came at a bad time. Some day I'll stop back to try again (because my dentist happens to be 10 minutes away), and hope and pray for better! read more
