I rented a 10x20 unit at $120 about 2 years ago, the following year my rate was raised to $190 (58% increase), then this year I received another increase to $280 (another 57%). When I visited the office and asked why the increase, I was told it was "just supply and demand, since we're nearly at capacity and can charge more than you're paying, we raise your rate". So the facilities were unchanged and unimproved, but I received 133% in increases in 2 years. I can't stand unscrupulous practices and moved out. Now I see on their website that they have the same 10x20 space available for $151. So it was clearly a matter of trying to take advantage of an already paying customer. If you need a nice space for a short period, it's fine. But If you think you might need it more long term, look elsewhere or be prepared for unwarranted rate increases.

I think a lot of these self storage places prey on the fact that nobody wants to move all their stuff to keep a reasonable rate so you move in and wham, they hit you with a huge rate increase. They act like they're doing you a great service by going month-month rather than signing a longer term lease (where pricing would be fixed). "You can cancel whenever you want". Yeah, if you don't mind moving every few months. It just allows them to quickly jack your rate way up. At Extra Space they also go month-month so I was worried about the same trickery. BUT, they allowed me to lock in the current rate for as long as I wanted to, by paying in advance. I was thrilled to have this option and took full advantage of it. Even better, I was given the significantly cheaper "web rate" for the full duration of my pre-pay. The result was that my space at Extra Storage is less than 1/2 of what Public Storage was going to charge me. So, do your homework and make sure you know how much it's going to cost you if you plan to use the space for any significant time. Don't just compare the initial "teaser" rates. Also, the place is super clean and the staff were a joy to work with. So happy I found this place!

Gates get stuck open sometimes, but whatever. The ISSUE is they will DOUBLE your rent whenever they feel like it. The listed price online for my unit was $65 a month. When I actually completed the rental setup, it was $120. Now after 3 months they upped my rent to $180. It's crazy to me that this is somehow legal. I'm finding a new rental location as I type this to get out of there before my next bill hits. Doing my research online now I've read a ton of similar reviews across the country for Public Storage doing this to everyone. I wish another employer would discover him because Bill gives PS a better name than they deserve. Bill swiftly took several actions to relieve our issues. I did not go in there screaming, I was calm (but probably obviously frustrated.) Bill got us taken care of clearly because he wanted to do good work and help others. I still think the PS corporate / franchise model is terrible for customers per my statements above.

Not only that they were able to get me in under the Spring discount which saved me even more money. They didn't have to do that but they did. Honesty, integrity and incredible customer service. They have even fielded phone calls from home when I needed them. Facility is SECURE, well lit and have music playing so you don't feel like your in alone in a haunted movie. Units are CLEAN and in great shape. Easy ACCESS with keypads at all entrances, elevator and entry doors. Excellent experience. Highly recommend.

However, the great pricing was an outright lie. Don't fall for it! I was offered a low introductory price of 30% off "for the first 3 months," but after signing the paperwork I found out that it was really only for 2 months plus whatever was left of the month you started in (which in my case was only 9 days left of the month). That was deceptive. They did inform me that the price "might" increase after 4-7 months, and it sure did! On my 8th month, they jacked the rate up by a full 40%, and on my 11th month, they jacked it up another 30%. Worse, the leasing agent told me that "if" I got a notification of a rent increase, I could call and they would likely waive it temporarily if asked. Nope. I did call to raise concern about the price that was now more than double my contract rate, and after a week and a half of runaround, I was told, "Sorry, we can't do that." So, that's THREE rent increases in only 12 months, with me ultimately paying 2.6 times the deal I was offered initially, and over the life of my lease, I ended up paying 82% higher than the advertised rates.

Fortress U-Haul records the gas from the previous rental, then moves the trucks from inside to outside the gate daily until the next rental. Fortress U-Haul moved my truck back and forth for over two months and expected me to pay for the gas. The tank was empty when I picked up the vehicle. After I returned the vehicle, I showed Cindy the pictures I took of the empty gas gauge right after I picked up the truck, two receipts for gas I purchased before and after I used the vehicle, the gas gauge after I refueled and she threatened to sue me for $5.00...
