This is definitely the beach to…read morecheck out if you want to avoid the crowds at Tybee Beach or even Hilton Head, although it will require about an hour or so drive south from Savannah and similarly, north from Jacksonville. They also charge a toll to get into the beach community with state residents paying I believe six dollars or so and out of state residents paying closer to 10. However, it's definitely worth it as there is plenty of parking along the entire island beach strip, including a really great fishing pier at the end of the island that also has a bait and tackle shop located within the park. We found the beach to be clean, the facilities to be well kept, and more importantly, not overly crowded. The beach here is well traveled, however so this is not soft, supple sand, but much more hard packed, which allows for running, bike riding and recreational activities in general. There were several families fishing in the same vicinity of other families playing in the water which could present a bit of concern with regard to potential hooks and fishing tackle in the surf, but it didn't seem to bother anybody. This is definitely going to be our go to beach for the foreseeable near future.

There are public restrooms at the brick building across the sidewalk on the side of the picnic tables towards the parking. For public restrooms they're not bad! A quick straight stroll (2 blocks or so) to get ice cream and go out to eat or shop around! Great location.

The day we were here, the beach was littered with the bodies of cannon ball jellyfish, which are surprisingly solid, so watch your feet. Enjoy the temperate water of the Atlantic ocean and the bright South Ga Sun for a perfect afternoon.

But if you're parking at Mallery, expect to just access the ball fields, restrooms and playground because the road between the parks is pretty busy (and there is a separate lot over there anyway). Parking at Mallery was ample on a weekday evening in March, even with softball practice in session. The playground has wood chips to keep things soft for kids. The slide/climbing structure is REALLY HIGH. I was really uncomfortable letting my toddler climb it. He was playing with older kids who were keeping an eye on him otherwise I'd not have allowed it. Parents of little ones, beware. Other apparatuses, like see-saw and swings were fine, but a small children area would be nice. I'm grateful they had bathrooms, which is a step up from nothing or port-a-potties. However, the bathrooms were DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY. Like a stench, trash all over the floor, and even a broken lollipop to stick to your shoes. Yuk! Overall the park is great, just make sure to use your bathroom at home before you visit!

I was so relieved to find Summer Waves offers a smaller, cleaner, more-personal, less-dangerous water park experience. We found it to be exactly that. Though Jekyll is close to a tropical climate, the water park is only open in warmer months (May-Sept). Inclement weather is an issue in their part of the country at that time of year. At least a month of the time Summer Waves is open is hurricane season. There are clear rain policy rules, which kinda stink but are for everyone's safety. One day we called to verify they were open only to show up TEN MINUTES LATER and be turned away at the gate due to thunderstorms. Luckily we were staying 5min away but can you imagine driving farther? And paying $10 island toll for that? The next day weather was great and my husband and son had a ball. They'd planned to stay 2 hours but lasted 6! My 7yo was a little intimidated by the enclosed taller slides but he got over it after trying them and they covered every attraction in the park except the baby/toddler stuff. They did the lazy river over and over! I saw pictures/reviews of the traffic and chaos in July, wow! Go in late August (when local kids are back to school and the park is only open weekends) and it's perfect! They waited 5min at most, and that happened once. It was just step up and go! It's not huge but it's up-to-date, clean, uncrowded at the right times, and very reasonably priced under $30pp. No bugs (Jekyll has a huge dragonfly population to rid pesty bugs), good breeze on most days. Make sure to reapply sunscreen. My son got burnt for the first time in his life despite full application of spf 25 (which kept him white as a sheet for weeks prior on Jekyll's beaches), but the park uses salt water and is very exposed to the sun so take heed. All in all a great experience!

We also went into a tiki hut type bar place and had some drinks and sat on the bar side, so you got to overlook the ocean overall it was a great time and we had fun.

It is one of many actions by Yelp designed to block users from accessing local info on this destination, which keeps Yelp users ignorant if they use Yelp instead of Google, who has it all! * * * * * * The former drawbridge access bridge onto Jekyll Island from its causeway was built in 1954, decommissioned in the early 1990s, and turned into a fishing pier once the metal drawbridge was removed. As a kid, I first visited the island via this bridge, just a couple years before it was decommissioned. At that time, toll to visit the island was $1/day, now it's $10/day. I have visited both sides of the pier. The causeway side is longer and fishermen there had some decent catches. This water is the river side of Jekyll Island, so it's briney, and you're liable to catch just about anything saltwater or freshwater in there! A family fishing was kind enough to let my child use their rod and within minutes caught a little fish (too small to keep). But we saw their cooler and they had a stockpile of a catch, including a huge trout, and on the ground was a ray they had caught, which they couldn't save to return to the water. A bald eagle nearby was perched ready to clean up the discarded seafood as soon as the fisherfolk left. I know from rangers that the eagles had two eaglets this year who are still in the nest, so the unused catch went to hungry birds. On the island side pier, I often see it used by cyclists hoping for a breeze and a view along their route, but it's not as long, so less useful for fishing. There is a large parking lot on the island side, which is pretty hidden from tourists, and a great parking anchor spot for daytrippers when the island is crowded. The causeway side has places to park alongside it, but no real designated parking lot. Its access road is where the GA state patrol sits in wait for speeders at night and pretty much all weekend. All in all this is a very cool spot for fishing, picture taking, sunset watching, birding, etc. my only negative was on the island side, there is a sidewalk at the very end, that raises the concrete up too high to be a safe height with the railing. This is super dangerous, and ought to be safeguarded somehow. Otherwise, a little-known spot for seasoned visitors!

Unfortunately for us when we went the wind was so incredibly wicked it was like an getting assaulted by the beach the second we walked onto open sand and it whisked my sons bucket down the shoreline which was tricky to get back lol so we didn't last long lol if the weather was better I imagine we could spend a day there. Bring a lunch and when you're ready go shower clean up eat and let the kids play at the park!

It has some facilities and there are picnic tables, but this is also the kind of island that has a lot of mosquitos so I would be heading towards the beach. This area has some inland water that is apparently permanent enough that they've put pontoon bridges over it, which is kind of cool. The beach here is a little bit wider than on other nearby areas, so the tide is not forcing you to literally sit on a dune and you can walk around the surf fishers. So it is a decent ocean beach, if still on the crowded side.
