The beach itself was a decent quality, if not world-beating affair. It was just more crowded and less easy to enjoy than I'd hoped.

This angered me because it's a hazard to the animals and the people who come here and there is NO DNR, ranger or police information anywhere to report this behavior. I even confronted the idiots and told them how stupid they were. Total low life losers. Keep your kids clear away from the water because they come straight to any person they see.

When I say "oodles of didactics all over the walls" it's actually overwhelming! There were really informative learning panels on every square inch of vertical space in this building, but it is so much at once, and hard to get close to because the tanks, cages, and other exhibits sit along the walls, and keep you a distance from the often-tiny text. They definitely need a larger space. Dawn was our guide for the visit, and she was very sweet and informative. She got a baby gator out for us to touch, and pointed out some interesting facts about the MANY tortoises they house. She also introduced us to the loggerhead sea turtles, and took us to the side building with another tank there. These turtles are stragglers from the nests during hatching season. The sea turtle wildlife crew will check all nests two weeks after the main hatch, and they get stragglers to Tidelands, where they will live and grow, temporarily, until they are large enough to be released at adult size, back into the sea. Stragglers don't have good chance of survival at all in the wild, but Tidelands completely bolsters their odds, and may even give them a better chance than the ones who fall victim to predators or environmental hazards. Run by 4-H, Tidelands is a great center with a great cause, and it was super fun learning with them!

The pier-ish area on the water isn't suited to fishing and the water is too dirty anyway. There are no safety rails adequate for children, and it's a place to walk at your own risk. The playground is okay as something for kids to do. There isn't much shade nor comfortable places for parents to watch. The large pavilion used for the farmers market is a field away from the playground so it's no use for parents. We attended an Easter event post-Ahmaud Arbery's death, during the Biden administration, and it felt truly diverse and positive for all. Recently, we attended the NYE Shrimp Drop during the Trump administration and it felt like a redneck fest with a creepy backwoods white band, and Trumpy-looking scary white people all over with sour faces. There was no sign of the shrimp nor promised bounce houses. Very few people were there, and NONE were non-white. It felt like Deliverance and we got the he!! out! Could not have been more repulsed. The park is a community facility. Local government should have a better grip on these "community" events, especially after their scandalous reputation for having DA Jackie Johnson enabling all the dirty southern racists who crawl out from under their local rocks around here!

The horses were well trained and easy to ride, the guides were knowledgeable and gave us fun facts about Sea Island and the surrounding areas (we had Noel on Christmas Day), and the scenery was beautiful. We rode through the marsh to the beach. It was low tide so the beach was huge and gave us plenty of room to space out. The sand was blowing across and almost looked like snow! Two things I would improve; it would have been nice to be able to trot or Gallup for a minute when we had ample room to play, and having someone to take pictures while on the beach would have been nice as well. The guide said they were not allowed and it was hard to do it while riding. What a wonderful Christmas ride!

I had only been on about 5 trail rides before this one, always feeling a bit nervous because of one bad experience. However, on this ride, with the wonderful instruction beforehand by the guides and the sweet, calm, well-trained and cared-for horses, I felt totally comfortable and truly enjoyed every minute of the ride. The guides were absolutely wonderful. They were professional, did a great job matching us with the right horse, and put safety first. With one guide leading the pack and another bringing up the rear, we had an incredible ride through the marshland and beach. It was such a peaceful and beautiful ride and one that we will never forget. I highly recommend!

The Jekyll Island Public Playground was just completely redone in Jan 2022. Every bit of equipment…read moreis brand new, fresh wood chips throughout, and nicely maintained landscaping. You can't see the playground from the road (Oceanview), but it's adjacent to the mini golf, so pull in there, and they share a parking lot behind back. Red Bug Motor's Pizza is also adjacent to the playground. There are two playgrounds here, younger kids on right, big kids on left, when you enter from the parking lot. The huge "GA state law says we're not liable for death or injuries" signs are prominent, and creepy. Otherwise, the equipment is brand spanking new, and lots of fun. My (older) toddler was able to do almost every apparatus, and had a blast every visit. There are always kids coming and going from here so your little ones will find some playmates. Many parents let their kids roam free while they went to hang at the pizza deck, or play mini golf. Plenty of benches for parents to sit and keep an eye on kids, and trash cans for waste from snacks.
