This was a late night dinner experience on Thursday. There was al fresco option but I chose a table inside. The host and server were attentive and especially friendly. The decor is very dark with a floor to ceiling center bar, large windows through out the dining room, and excessively loud hip hop music. The crudo starter was stellar. The texture difference with the crumble and delicate fish was out of the ordinary. My entree short ribs with peanut sauce fell short. The meat was extremely tender and juicy. The peanut sauce a blend of whole nuts and puree was a delicious pairing. But one of the four ribs was meatless and just the bone. The server explained the meat had simply fallen off the bone and was in the dish. But the meat was no where to be found in the dish. The one item that perplexed me was the server's uniform. Considering the swanky mid upscale atmosphere I couldn't determine why the female servers wore Hooters attire? The male servers were covered, t shirts and pants. But the females wearing baby tshirts and micro mini shorts. This mismatch of poor taste uniform compared to the overall theme of jellyfish could use immediate improvement. After a long, drawn out process of translating French menus into English on my phone, we finally decided on Jellyfish from a list of recommendations from a local store owner in the World Trade Center. SCORE!! Jellyfish had incredibly flavorful food and service top notch!! We started with the tuna crudo which was UH-May-Zing! The combination of textures and flavors was superb and the tuna wonderfully fresh! Chilmole tempura was MAGNIFIQUE!!! Honestly, I'd come here and just get 2 servings for my entire meal and be happy, haha. We also split the fried polenta. That was heartier than expected for polenta - almost like fried mashed potatoes - but still very delicious with the meat stock as a flavorful "thick" broth. I had the hanger steak with French fries (felt kinda steak frite-ish tonight) and my friend had the rotelle with bone marrow. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection and fries just the right crispness for my liking. My friends rotelle was just OK (hence the 4 stars) and the big bone with fatty marrow scooped out at the table was just - unexpected and weird. Just wasn't appetizing after that Perhaps it's more of the norm with French Quebec culture and cuisine and our American expectations jaded the experience. But hey! We tried it Overall, I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to tourists and if I were staying longer, I'd definitely come back. read more

Great ambiance and friendly staff, but the food was a bit of a miss for us besides the lion's mane mushroom dish. Wine recommendations/pairing were also nice. Ordered a filet mignon and got a totally different steak. Since there wasn't much of a price difference we didn't send it back. Steak was OK. Tried the arctic char fish as well and it was also just OK. I'd consider giving this venue another try. read more

Went here for birthday dinner and expected the food to be amazing. I wasn't disappointed. We got the tasting menu which consists of smaller portions of some of the dishes so it was good for the price as we got to try most of the menu. First dish was the oyster nachos (5/5) and pani puri (4.5/5). Enjoyed the oyster nachos a lot with the Gruyere, very interesting presentation. The pani puri was also good but not as much as the nachos. Next is the tuna crudo (4/5) and the avocado carpaccio (4.5/5). I really liked the truffle on the avocado. Last is the octopus tempura (3/5) and the bone marrow rotelle (3/5). Found the octopus to be a bit too tough but the batter and aioli was nice. The bone marrow pasta was a bit too rich and it was a bit hard to finish towards the end (I need bread). Overall, it was a good experience but could do better. The service and ambience was great. Maybe we'll try other dishes next time. read more

The ambience is great, the waitress was awesome, food was hit or miss. Roasted eggplant 9/10. Amazing! Shrimp appetizer was 2/10. Beautifully presented but small size, not enough of them, and dry. Halibut was incredible 10/10! The fillet was overcooked, and we sent it back, and ordered the NY Steak instead. While cooked perfectly, it had no flavor, so disappointing. They should have seasoned the steak with salt and pepper, or atleast add some seasoning to the sauce that the steak came with. The desserts were excellent. read more

Absolutely loved everything we ordered tonight, but the rotelle pasta was hands-down our favorite dish. The bone marrow adds such a delicious flavor and mouthfeel to an already umami-packed dish. Can't emphasize enough how good this dish was. The avocado carpaccio was also a stand-out dish and would highly recommend it. I doubt there is anything on the menu that isn't awesome. My team had a really exceptional experience here sitting outside in the patio and trying the chefs tasting menu. The highlights for me were the oysters , tuna crudo, burrata, and the French fries. I did like the tomahawk steak but really was hoping to have tried the flank steak with chimichuri. This restaurant is a 6 out of 5!! It is our new favorite restaurant in Montreal. The decor and ambiance were beautiful and modern, the servers (especially Camille) were all top notch - knew their foods and wine pairings, and very attentive. The food was exceptional. Every dish was better than the one before it. We loved the burrata, the cod gravlax, the carpaccio, the lion's mane mushrooms, and the halibut. I absolutely loved this place. We made reservation for early dinner @5.30pm since that's the only time available at the day we were in Montreal, and we were among the first guests that day. Staff were very attentive and made sure we were enjoying ourselves throughout the whole dining experience. Dining room is very cosy, and bar in the middle looks quite stylish. Everything we ordered was amazing. We had Fried polenta - highly recommend this dish, and the lamb rack with sour cream which was to die for. The only dish we were not crazy about was octopus appetizer. It wasn't our favorite and would not order it again, it was too salty for our taste. I would have preferred more lemon and less salt perhaps. Anyway, still easily 5+ stars and would love to return and try out few more dishes from the menu. This one's a keeper. read more

Swank restaurant with a lot of promise, but it fell short for me. The service was terrible, it started off friendly, then he ignored us, screwed up our order, and charged us $120 more than he should have (which wasn't corrected properly, because the manager tried to calculate it by giving us cash, but by that time we were just done with being there). The only item I'd order again was the short rib- which was excellent. Otherwise, I could have ditched the other food. And the drinks were miniature! This place is a no go for me. read more

Ambience and service is great. Food is mediocre for the price you pay. We ordered shrimp, avocado, tuna and the NY steak. The first three were 7/10 -- not too bad, not amazing either. The NY steak, I asked for it to be medium rare. It was cooked to be about a medium and it was just dry. It was chewy and had no flavor. Also the topping on the steak which were these tiny strips of potatoes were stale and did not help with the dryness of the steak. It's beautiful inside though :/ read more

Wow, absolutely delicious! I made a reservation by email for a bachelorette dinner and the manager was extremely quick in their response. The restaurant itself is stunning with a little waiting area. We ordered a main course each and had the whole fish to share between 4 people. We were absolutely stuffed and happy with the food and portions. I personally had the steak which came with a side - I opted for the vegetables which happened to be snap peas for the evening. Super delicious - will be back when I'm in Montreal! read more

This place was recommended by a friend for a nice date and it did not disappoint. It's posh but not snobby, nice reception as they take your coat and keep you updated on your table waiting time. This place would get a sixth star from me if it were possible! I have been to Jellyfish a few times during the COVID shutdown for takeout but I wanted to wait for the full sit down treatment before penning a review. The takeout was of course great but dining on the newly enlarged patio was on another level all together. I would normally start with a description of the food but in this case I'll start with the service. I saw the new patio being built on Tuesday and stopped by to make a reservation. The manager dropped what he was doing to take care of this task personally and treated me like an old friend. Our waitress was fantastic during the dinner. Last but not least, the sommelier was very friendly and knowledgeable. She stopped by a few times for wine service which was a nice touch. One thing in particular impressed me with the wine service: the sommelier "refreshed" our bottle of red wine with a short soak in an ice bucket about half way through the service. Sweet! Speaking of sweet, I'll run through the food in opposite order starting with dessert. Many of the Yelp! reviews rave about the s'mores and I completely concur, you must try this when visiting. The mains were New York Strip with some delicious fries and Barb had the Salmon with veggies. Yum! We started with a glass of Cava and the Avocado Carpaccio. I can't explain how flavourful the avocado was...really amazing stuff! Pricing was in line with other top tier restaurants in the area and in fact I would say lower than I expected given the quality of the food and service. I followed the chef on instagram for a little while and his cooking really intrigued me. I also read somewhere that this was a must-try so I put it on my list and we finally head over for dinner on a week night The decor is modern, has a dark ambience with a corporate feel. The staff was courteous, fun and helpful. After a cocktail we settled for: -the shrimp ceviche with banana salsa which was very creative -salmon crudo & puff rice, chunky & perfectly seasoned -charcoaled beets & sumac sour cream -tatsoi - and also the special of the day as I saw what the chef posted on instagram earlier, of clams & pork Everything was delicious and and we finished off with the pumpkin pie that I thought was very well executed with a slightly tart cream sauce I definitely recommend this place. This spot is beautifully decorated, a great ambience with a good selection of 80s music. The staff are very attentive and took good care of us. We loved everything we ate, the avocado carpaccio and the New York cut 12 ounces but especially fell in love with the bone marrow. Wish we had the steak and bonne marrow served in seperate courses as we are sharing and it got cold, the waitress suggested we have them together. We started with just a drink and as we wanted to enjoy the deck floor outside, we ended up with a full meal ! That was nice and the staff is really kind! We had not anticipated the price but everything tested really good. We started with a rum, coconut and lime cocktail : super fresh and tasty. Then we took some starters (crudo). The tuna one was really nice, spicy on the edges of hot but really delicate. For the price I would have appreciated slightly more but the taste made it worth it. We added a side of French fries, they were a hit! We ended with a dessert: I took the mango tatin. I am picky so I would say it was slightly on the sweet side, less mango confit and a slightly more baked dough would have been the perfect final touch to our meal. To note, the vibe of the menu is definitely Asian, not European! I will get back for the cocktails and maybe also for an occasion. Delightful, decadent, and quality are just a few words to describe this restaurant. This dinner was planned by a buddy, I think we were 15 at the table. Service was top notch. They are a perfect example of service with a smile. The food here was really excellent. The French onion wonton soup (a first for me) was so so so good, I could have eaten about three bowls of it by myself. This was cheesy, lots of dumplings and the meat was seasoned to perfection. This is the best way to have French onion soup. It will be the only way that I'll eat it. At the table we had the Salmon Tartar which has lemongrass, ginger soy, puffed rice, pickled veggies. We had some thing like a tuna tar tar with beets, peanuts and a nice sauce. Also an avocado salad with a crispy cheese chip and my goodness this hit the spot. Oysters nachos Jellyfish which have tomatillas, short ribs marmalade, gruyere had a magnificent taste, everything blended perfectly. My neighbor had the half chicken with Boursin and a yellow miso butter, I had a small peace and felt like heaven from the juiciness and good of flavors. The Veal short ribs has Kimchi, peanuts, soy and ginger. This too tasted good. I had a piece that didn't have peanuts on it. This was another good selection from the table. Now I had the Hanger steak which was 8 oz of goodness, juicy well cooked and had a tasty asian chimichurri sauce with shaved parmesan cheese in it. We had a smores platter for dessert and this too was excellent. Over all I had a great experience. The waitress was good to me, let me know what ingredients were in each item; as I had told her some foods that don't agree with me. That also made the experience great. All drinks were liked by my folks at the table. I don't do alcohol, so can only comment based on my folks likes. read more

Didn't see anything special in the tuna appetizer and the tomahawk steak ($220) was very disappointing (in quantity) and left us venturing to a McDonald's afterwards. I've visited Jellyfish on a Saturday night and as I was solo, I was seated at the bar which is always a great idea: There were many groups of friends and couples seated there as well. The decor is really modern, I really liked their choice of chandeliers. I started with their "Bacon Old Fashioned" drink which was a-ma-zing, if I remember well it's a mix of Bourbon, orange and the cherry on the cake: Caramelized Bacon. I then ordered their beef tartare, the salmon and their croissant with white chocolate as dessert. Everything tasted very good, although I wasn't impressed by the croissant (I didn't like the burnt taste). I would recommend this place for numerous reasons, their service, their food, and the overall experience. I will definitely be going back to try the rest of their menu. read more

I came for lunch and was really impressed with the creativity and quality of the food here. It's definitely not the cheapest place around but they really care about using high quality ingredients and we really enjoyed everything we ordered. One of the better dining experiences I've had. The imagination and technical skill to pull off these dishes deserves this 5 star rating. We had a tuna crisp starter with homemade tempura chips that was sensational. Heirloom tomato starter that seemed to have a different spice hint in every bite, the pesto with this dish was complex and so creamy. The shrimp and lobster starter had a fruit sauce. A nice dish, but definitely milder than the other two starters which were more punchy. My wife and I split the Asian hanger steak. This was,a great cut of meat, and the playful lemongrass marinade was fantastic. Even the frontibus beers recommended by waiter were memorable. Highly recommend. read more

Just happened to be in Montreal staying in an Airbnb condo just steps from Jellyfish the week it opened. Place has a great vibe. Really nice and helpful staff. We had the scallop ceviche which was excellent. Raw scallops in a light sauce with a lot of complexity. Also had the softshell crab on a steamed bun with kimchi (they had a cooler name for it). Another excellent appetizer. Big enough for 2 to split. Worth it. The beef tartar was good but not the best we've had this week. Blue cheese sauce on the side was good but the whole dish was a bit salty. I still finished it. For an entre, we split the veal stew which was delightful. Rich sauce. Plenty of meat. Great comfort food. Finally, we shared the Jellyfish Donut (my name) dessert. This was two beignet/donuts made with carrot ricotta and a lemon custard. Excellent. Not too sweet. Perfect, actually. They had the usual minor startup issues with service but were really responsive and fixed things right away. We knew this was opening week, so we didn't expect perfection on everything. Ate here with the daughter and her fiancé when we went on an overnight from moms in Vt to Montreal so we could try out our new passport cards. What am awesome find! I seldom give five stars but this place was so worth it. The decor is fantastic; we were greeted warmly when we arrived and checked our coats. (What a nice surprise - a great place with no attitude). The menu was intriguing. The three of us love seafood and there was plenty to choose from. We started with the scallop carpaccio, oysters on the special menu (lucky limes which I love), the crispy Brussels sprouts and the avocado carpaccio - at the recommendation of the waitress. Everything was fresh and tasty but the avocado stole the show. We moved on to mains - the daughter got the rotelle app, the fiancé got the Icelandic cod and I got the hanger steak (I cook a lot of fish at home but seldom make steak so it was a treat). All entrees were delicious. It's not easy to cook hanger steak perfectly (med rare) as it's thin. But this was just right. The garnishes with each dish were inventive and worked well.
