The Blind Man - Original Roman Shades

    The Blind Man

    (20 reviews)

I'm sad to say that The Blind Man has become a 1 star company. After two successful Hunter Douglas…read moreshade purchases and installs with Tim over the years, I didn't hesitate working with them on a custom Roman shade order. Their son, Ben, helped me find a near perfect fabric match to my curtains, and we were all set to go. However, once the product arrived (5/11/25), the experience went downhill quickly. The new shades look nothing like our previous Roman shades, which were only replaced because after 25 years they no longer were able to go up or down efficiently. The newly installed ones are not tidy or crisp when pulled up or down like our previous Roman shades, even though The Blind Man had them and photos as a reference. Before ordering, I asked to see a sample of what my shades would look like when finished. I was told that because it was a custom order they did not have any samples or even photos to show me. Therefore, I took it on faith that since they had both my shades and photos of them the end result would look like my current shades. Unfortunately, the final product did not remotely resemble my current Roman shades. When they are in the down position, they just hang there like a bedsheet. Each shade also appears to have excess fabric that creates large Vs on both sides of the shade. The craftsmanship of these shades make them something I do NOT want to look at for the next 20 years. Because of my immediate disappointment, on May 13th, my husband contacted The Blind Man via e-mail to find out what could be done. Janie, the consultant/designer, was immediately on it, which we appreciated. However, after her meeting on May 15th with the workroom representative and owner, the owner has been ghosting us under the guise of trying to figure out what to do. We should have had a resolution by May 16th at the latest. It's been almost three weeks now since we started e-mailing and stopping in to find out about these poor quality shades. At this point, we would just like the shades removed and our money returned. I would NOT recommend working with this company if you need custom shades or draperies. Their final product does NOT meet expectations, and the owner's communication with customers is subpar. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I will continue to update this review to note how long it takes them to resolve this issue to our mutual satisfaction.

Very long story. Hope we can get a refund. After a lengthy discussion with Hunter Douglas, it's…read morebetween the dealer and the customer, bottom line. Hunter Douglas was gracious and understanding but we are customers of the dealer, The Blind Man. Hunter Douglas is a quality company. Not sure what happened with The Blind Man.

I recently purchased a house, and was in need of window treatments. The builder's agent…read morerecommended one company which had mixed reviews, so I was hesitant to use them. Enter my trusty sis-in-law who had used and recommended Abda. Jerry, the owner met me at my house to measure and determine what I was looking for. He was very helpful with his suggestions/recommendations. For example, I wanted cordless top down-bottom up cellular shades, but my windows are tall and I can't reach the top, thus would not be able to use the cordless top down feature easily). He also worked within my budget, as he offers a wide variety of brands/styles. My shades arrived quickly and I was scheduled for installation within a week after they arrived. The installers were professional, friendly and fast. I was not only impressed by the quality of the product, but also Jerry's measuring skills. Each one is a perfect fit! My custom sliding door drape took a bit longer, but through no fault of Abda's (the finials were on an eternal backorder). However, once they arrived I was scheduled within 2 days to have it hung. Jerry was kind enough to give me a restaurant gift card for my trouble! I can't say enough good things about this family run business. Jerry, Pat, their sons and other employees are top notch. I'd highly recommend this company to anyone looking for window treatments.

If I could give zero stars for this company, I would. I spent thousands is dollars on plantation…read moreshutters back in 2016, and had a great experience. I knew I would do more blinds in the future, so naturally I called the owner to get a quote for a less expensive, yet still esthetically nice blind on several windows in my house. The quote went well, though I remember vividly that I thought the blinds had a lining - I told the owner I wanted more privacy, and he understood. My quote came in a little under $2000, unlined, as discussed - when I tried calling him about the lining - and emailing him, he dodged every email and text. I finally got tired of the owner not responding, so I picked up the phone and called him on a workday at 7:30-8 - to which he was irritated and asked me if I knew how early it was - don't most people that work/own their own business get up early? I do! I own my own business. I was also told that I am not his only customer - who says that to a repeat customer?! It's business 101! Paul, the installer, installed a defective blind in my back hall - too late - he drilled holes in the door. He said he would order another replacement ASAP. I can only pull down the shade 8' on a long skinny window that is over 6 feet! I am sure you can imagine my irritation. I tried to be calm, email him every week or week and a half so as not to harangue him - no response. I finally rec'd a pithy email after sending him several texts, and emails; the one and only response was 'it was ordered the day of install' this was early Jan. It is now almost March. Bryan will not return my calls, emails, etc. the shade was approx $400 - and it totally defective! I am afraid to touch it for fear it will break. Them shades look cheap for almost $2000. I just wanted him to make good on his promise, apparently he doesn't care. I would advise people to go elsewhere for an estimate - even Lowes. Boy was I wrong in thinking the owner would be a moral, decent, honest businessman - I was wrong. If anyone needs to discuss, come see the defective blind, or knows a good small claims court attorney, I would appreciate the name of someone that can help me get my money back. I will never use this company ever again. Anyone I speak with will know what happened to me, and hopefully not suffer the same poor customer service and warranty provided. I even reached out to the corporate store to see if they could help, no help at all! It seems to be company policy to not service the customer. They get the money all upfront, so if anything is wrong, you are relying on them to do the right thing. It really opened my eyes to what the owner and company is like as a whole. I will never recommend this establishment ever again! Amy Martin Remember: caveat emptor - buyer beware!
