Decided to stop by here after grabbing dinner with a friend. I came in around 8:30 on a Saturday night and luckily it wasn't too busy but they were out of several flavors that I'd usually get so I figured it was a perfect time to try something new. The young lady that helped me was sweet, friendly and offered up a few suggestions. I ended up getting two scoops of the strawberry buttermilk to go and the young lady was kind enough to package it to go for me so I could enjoy it in the comfort of my own space. When I did get a chance to sit and eat it, I absolutely loved it. The creaminess of it and the strawberry filled goodness was pure goodness. I am a huge fan of ice cream and being from Ohio means that Jeni's is towards the top of my list. I actually lived one block from the OG Jeni's when I lived in the Short North district of Columbus for 8 years. So when I was in Atlanta for a wedding, I had to introduce some friends to this delectable treat (we came from Arizona, where at the time, there was not a Jeni's, but one has since opened). I shared with my friends the array of my recommendations (for fruity lovers, get the Brambleberry Crisp, for Chocolate lovers, go with Milkiest Chocolate, etc). My friends were all very impressed --- no surprise there! My personal favorites are Milkiest Chocolate, Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks (which used to be called The Buckeye State), and Salty Caramel (the flavor that put Jeni's on the map). You can't really go wrong with any of the flavors and they allow you to taste test, so you're sure to find something you'll like. Ah, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams! I was so surprised and excited to learn late last year that Jeni's had finally opened its doors in the shopping center formerly named Perimeter Place. This mixed use retail/office/residential area has been renamed Ashford Lane as part of its rebranding efforts. The addition of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams continues this effort forward. I'm biased about this area, because I live within minutes of Ashford Lane, and I love the positive changes and additions being made in this area. Parking close to Jeni's may be challenging. There are two tiny parking lots in direct view of Jeni's, but there are also lots of street parking, a big parking lot and a parking garage, all of them free, if you don't mind a minute or two of walking. I haven't been to all other Jeni's in the metro Atlanta area, but this Jeni's has the most available indoor seating that I've seen so far. Multiple tables allow individuals, couples, and a small group to sit together. There are low countertops along the windows on two sides of this business for customers to sit at and watch the world go by. Natural light streams through the glass windows during the day, and bright indoor lighting beckons customers to enter at night. Two employees were assisting two customers at the long, refrigerated glass display cases that show off the flavorful ice creams. Though they were busy, one of the employees called out a welcome to us. Full attention was soon on us, since we were the only customers in line at the time, which gave us a reason to request samples of various ice creams that the employee scooped up with tiny metal (reusable) spoons before handing them to us. R sampled about 5 ice creams; I requested one. I hadn't previously tried the Goat Cheese with Red Cherries ice cream, so I sampled that one. I loved the mild, mildly sweet goat cheese that I immediately tasted, but then the tart and sweet cherry flavor unexpectedly clobbered my taste buds a little too much. Nah ... pass on that. I ended up ordering a single (which allows customers to order up to two flavors) cup with Gooey Butter Cake and Darkest Chocolate, my top two picks. That Gooey Butter Cake has just the right mix of sweetness, textures and flavors by itself: cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce. This is the best dark chocolate ice cream I've ever had - so creamy with a rich chocolate flavor! The service was quick - scooping up the ice cream into cups (small disposable and recyclable cardboard-ish bowls), adding a triangular shaped, thin and crispy waffle into the ice cream, and ringing us up - and efficient. We enjoyed our ice cream inside. This store is very clean and bright. Jeni's merch is readily available for customers to peruse and select right before they get to the order counter. When the weather is nice, customers can sit just outside the store in some chairs, or they can go to the concrete benches or the wide and deep multi-person swings and enjoy their cold treats.
