I had to check this place out after learning that President Joe Biden spent $10,000 on Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream as part of his 2020 campaign. Having been there twice, I see how this worked for his campaign, because their ice cream is really solid! It's creamy, not too dense, and the flavors really standout. The seasonal Lemon Crinkle and the Wildberry Lavender are my favorites. Compared to other big ice cream chains in the LA area, it's not as good as Salt and Straw in terms of quality and uniqueness of flavors. Quality is pretty on par with Wanderlust Creamery, and originality of flavors is similar to that of McConnell's Fine Ice Cream. read more

I LOVE THIS ICE CREAM PLACE!!! Unique flavors and every flavor tastes delicious. There waffle cones are the best I have every had. They are a tad savory I would say and the perfect amount of crunch which is great for how sweet the ice cream is! The two flavors I got were so yummy. Perfect balance too cause the darkest chocolate was still sweet but not as sweet as the gooey butter cake. They call them half scoops but they are definitely more like full scoops haha, so pricing is reasonable. They also offer full pints if you really like a flavor! Service wise they need more people haha. The line was out the door and I felt bad they only had two people that day! But it did give us enough time to check out the menu fully. Also they allow you to get samples of everything! This place is nice inside! Still seating available when packed, and seating outside. The first time we visited Jeni's it was during the end of the weekday when it was quiet and there were four employees working the counter. While it seemed like they were fully staffed, it looked like there was only one person carrying the team and for lack of better words, they were mainly just high school looking workers just there-which is fine. The second time around, it's an entirely different experience during the weekend-there is a long line out the door and all of the employees at the counter are scooping, sampling, and interacting with customers-was this the same Jeni's we visited previously? The Strawberry Milk flavor is amazing--it reminds me of Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream from my childhood, bringing back fond memories. Came here for the first time Friday night. The line was quite long and it doesn't move too fast mainly because service is great. The employees are extremely pleasant and patient. They allow you to try as many flavors as you like before purchasing. Although the service was excellent, not sure what the hype is with the ice cream. I didn't think the ice cream was that good. I went to Jeni's last night after the movies, ordered the 10 scoop tray for my group to share and it was a thoroughly disappointing experience for THREE reasons. 1. They have abandoned the nuanced flavors that made their wide range of frozen desserts incredible for a menu that is now one unnuanced SUGAR BOMB after another. The three notable exceptions on our 10 flavor tray were the long time favorite "Brown Butter Almond Brittle, the new "Everything Bagel" (which tastes WAY better than it sounds... it will completely surprise you!) and the non-dairy "Cold Brew with Coconut Cream" which is surprisingly refreshing! 2. There are no longer Sorbets on the menu.... Just 3 dairy free ice creams two of which are unapologetic sugar bombs. Jeni's no longer has any options for customers who want fruit without dairy. The Champagne Poached Pear sorbet they used to have may have been the best frozen dessert I have ever tasted. Basic restaurants typically offer 3+ flavors of sorbet (Lemon, Mango, Raspberry, Coconut etc.)... Please explain why Jeni's can't offer even one? 3. You get a free scoop of politics with every cone! No matter what my political beliefs are, I do not want political statements (Right or Left) mixed with my food, drink, sports or entertainment choices. I go out to get away from my everyday day worries and concerns... not for political validation or aggravation. If you choose to go to Jeni's, be aware that you will be greeted at the door with a sign that announces Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams supports Defunding the Police and the Palestinian fight against Israel. Agree or not, you cannot avoid the overt political message. This review is in not in any way a statement/commentary on Jeni's political positions... I would write the same review if the sign on the door championed conservative political causes. I personally do not like politics served with my food whether I agree with it or not. Atmosphere is as important as the food when choosing a restaurant and I am merely making sure that potential customers know they cannot go to Jeni's expecting to simply enjoy a warm summer night and sample a wide range of ice cream flavors.
