This pier is by far the best that NC has to offer. From it's solid construction to all the amenities available, not to mention the aquarium! There are a number of reasons to list as to why Jennette's is the best but what stands out the most is the fact that it is a fully self sustainable pier and it is Leed certified. The pier offers a fully stocked tackle shop with bait and rods for rent as well. There's also a small cafe which is currently under renovations. All of the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and are always willing to offer quality advice on the current fishing action on the pier. While it may be a bit pricier than most piers, $14/day fishing pass and $2 walking pass, I promise it is well worth the expense and multiple visits. You will not be disappointed when visiting this OBX landmark. read more

We went to Jennette's Pier last night for our friends' wedding. Everything was absolutely beautiful! The venue room was upstairs away from the fishing pier, which was nice, and there was a balcony the overlooked the pier and the beach. The view was beautiful and the weather was perfect. The venue room was right next to the bathrooms, which was convenient and the serving staff was very nice and were very quick to clear dirty plates and bottles from everyone's tables. Recently renovated and very modern and nice, and of course the views are stellar, but lacking in customer service. You pay to walk out onto the pier a nominal $2 per adult and $1 per child, but as we approached the cashier, she wrapped up the transaction before us then promptly picked up her phone and walked off. She didn't go too far, maybe 10 feet away and still behind the register. She promptly went face down and thumbs high in her phone and best I could tell she had no idea we were standing there. Another cashier was sitting right. there. - also face down in her phone, so close I could've reached down and tapped her on the head, but she must've had better spidey senses. She looked up, surprised, about 20 seconds after the first woman walked away and apologetically took our money. We spent some time watching regular folks fish off the pier then spent some time dodging the tough guys who were casting off the end with a force that would rival a World Series winning pitch. (I'm not fisherman but it was obviously showing off.) A random guy walked up and asked them what they were fishing for and Mr. Fast Cast said they were "just casting" in a go-away-don't-bother-me-tone. The poor guy who asked walked behind him and had to grab his hat and duck as he did. After 30 minutes or so we headed back into the lobby area to leave and we're met with crazy slick floors. For some reason they've decided that mopping the inside floor coming off the pier at 6:45pm on a Friday night is best practices. We tiptoed out the door to head back down towards the parking lot and wouldn't you know it! Cashier #1 is standing right outside the door - face down in her phone and smoking a cigarette. This private pier with what seems to be a ton of gov't "support" could use some fancying up on their customer service to match their fancy new pier. read more

Such a great pier! Definitely the best one around.. the great thing about it is, its very long so you can get past that far sand bar on the very end of the pier, and catch big fish. Stopped here one night to walk the pier. There is a $2 charge per person to just walk on it. Other prices for fishing and other choices. People can walk or fish ($2.00 / $6.00). Equipped with three wind turbines which, at maximum output are capable of fulfilling not quite half the facility's electric needs. One of the Pier's shade pavilions is covered in photo-voltaic cells that convert sunlight into electricity, which is stored in a battery bank until needed to power Pier lights at night. (cool). A closed-loop, geothermal, HVAC system conditions the pier house. Eighty wells 200 feet deep circulate fluid that returns to the building at a consistent temperature to aid heating in winter and cooling in summer. Wonderful pier. I was sad I didn't get to experience this year but my husband did. He said it was still just as great as it was last year. Good fishing, lots of room, beautiful CLEAN pier and friendly staff. The pier might be 24-hours during peak season but your ticket is not. It is only good until 6 a.m. the next day (just an FYI). Fishing IN season is $12 pp. Walking is a donation of $2. This supports the aquarium however, I think the aquarium should've spent a little of the money on updating themselves and not just this beautiful pier. Another review. I plan to make weekend trips in the near future just to fish on this baby. I love it! Bluefish, skate, weird fish... lol. Very fun! read more

I went to fish and they gave me pointers and the gentleman running the school field trips was great. Helped me out and was awesome with the kids. The re-built pier is absolutely gorgeous! The staff were all nice and friendly and very helpful. The store is clean and offers everything you could need for a day of fishing on the pier. There are benches along the entire length of the pier and areas along the length of the pier that offer shaded benches as well. They have information on these little shaded benched areas that show you pictures of the different types of fish you could catch o the pier and what the legal limits are, how big they have to be, etc. That information is super helpful for novice fishers. We spent several hours fishing from the pier. We did catch a lot of fish, which is super exciting, but unfortunately they were too small to keep so we threw them back. They have a lot of different programs that you can sign up for that will teach you how to fish. When we were out there, a family was taken out on the pier with a few pier staff members and the staff were showing them how to fish, helping them determine if the fish could be kept or not, showing them how to bait the hook and cast it out, etc. From what I saw, the staff were patient, really nice, and appeared to be genuinely excited for the people that caught fish. There were several kids fishing with the group and the staff did a great job interacting with the kids and showing them how to fish. Their website is really nice and they have a live webcam you can watch. We paid $12 a piece for an all day fishing pass and if you want to just walk out onto the pier, you have the option of paying a $2 "donation" for that. I would highly recommend this pier over any of the other piers in the OBX. Not that the other ones are bad, they are just old, have filthy facilities, and in need of updating. read more

The Pier is 1,000 feet long! Walk on fee is 2$/person or 12$ for all day or fishing access (fee includes fishing license). The pier is quite wide so there is plenty of room in the center to walk comfortably with fisherman on the railings. Webcams are set up in 2 places so you can see the pier's conditions or, as I did, text/call friends who can see you live. Benches line both sides of the pier for enjoying the view or fishing. I happened to be there the week when the Eastern Surfing competition was happening. If you want to fish in comfort, this is your place! Almost every bench had1 or 2 fisherman if not whole families enjoying themselves. The tops of the benches have cutting board material and several fish cleaning stations, including running water, are available. Near the end of the pier, rod holders are attached to the railing. Great place for anyone wanting to see a great view of the beach and ocean and to enjoy the outdoors in comfort. Especially with kids or strollers. read more

After fishing at the Kitty Hawk pier (many years ago, before it was taken over by the Holiday Inn) and Nags Head pier, all I could say was wow when we arrived at the brand-spanking new Jenette's Pier. Maybe it doesn't quite have the same rustic appeal as the other "old school" fishing piers, but what it may lacks in that respect it more than makes up for in modern amenities, clean facilities, educational qualities and ease of use. This is a spectacular pier that I would have no problem spending days and days fishing at. There were a good number of people there fishing, but it wasn't a zoo. The cost to fish for the day is reasonable, the Pier itself has a blanket fishing license, so you don't need one separately, and the rental equipment and bait are all competitive or even cheaper than other piers or bait and tackle shops (not all, but some). They just make it easy, make you comfortable and able to focus on what you should focus on - fishing. Of course we didn't catch squat in our first four hours there, but that probably has more to do with the fact we showed up in the middle of the day about six hours after high tide and the wind was pretty strong which appeared to make the water cloudy. My only question: I wonder if the three (fascinating) wind turbines would actually create vibrations and/or noise that may keep some fish away from the pier? No scientific basis to claim any truth to that, but just wondering. Regardless, we had a great time and didn't spend a fortune doing it. read more

BEAUTIFUL SITES!!! For all of you site seeking visitors. Plenty of parking and freshly renovated. Clean bathrooms! Beautiful small aquarium as soon as you walk in not anything crazy but plenty of fishy's in the fancy tanks. Nice selection of snacks, toys, and clothing to the left! We asked a few questions about fish being caught and what the locals have been using. Got straight on answers and some good pointer tips! This is a must see in obx! What happened to the wind turbines? Also, a proper snack stand would be great. More educational features would be wonderful too (history, ecology). I've fished a few times and never caught a thing, but I'm not sure I'm there in the right season to catch much. I'm a novice fisher too. Other than those small quips, the pier is beautiful! Especially at night. It's fantastic as it is now, but it has so much more potential as a center for fun and education. I will be back, even if it's just for a 2 dollar stroll out on the water. read more

Oldest pier in the area. At least the oldest location for a pier. I love that the building is LEED certified and they are eco conscious there. Nice place to visit. We just went into the exhibit area and store - not out on the pier. (Too windy and cold) There are several large displays outside that tells the history of all the piers (and rebuilds). Several large aquariums inside with plenty of fish. Great for the kids to look around. The gift show has the NC Aquarium merchandise and is priced the same. To walk the pier is $2 adults and $1 for kids under 11. There are rods for rent, tackle for sale if you want to fish. It is now a very long pier but gets you well past the surf line. I think fishing was about $14 There are additional bath houses and outdoor showers by the beach on the property. Very well maintained. Parking is free. read more

The pier is beautiful but, we did not walk the pier. Instead we were under and around the pier. The week we were in the Outerbanks was wonderful but the waves were flat. We heard there were waves at Jennette's pier, so we went, and had a lot of fun. Under the pier provided shade and was a little cooler than right on the beach. It was perfect for the little ones we had with us. We got some nice pictures here. Next time, we will definitely check out the whole pier. read more

Awesome pier!!! When my 4 year old begged and begged to go fishing we finally gave in and found Jennettes. My husband and I had no idea what we were doing ( well my husband pretended like he did) and the staff was so helpful and got up set up with exactly what we needed. We were able to rent everything right there, and even buy some slimy frozen shrimp for bait. Ewww!!! Sad to say that after about 45 min and 100 degress, we caught nothing. The man explained that it was really slow and we may not catch anything. So we did know that going in. The whole thing cost us $28 dollars. Honestly, that was a great price for a great family experience. There is a pier fee if you are not fishing, but they did not charge us that on that day. Overall 5 stars, great experience. It would have been awesome to catch something but it was ok that we didnt. read more

What a neat place to visit for all ages, especially to see the sun set! You get free passes if you buy a membership at the NC aquarium. We visited in early June and it wasn't busy. Fun to see all the different kinds of fish being caught. Heard one fisherman call the sting rays nuisances and I thought they were awesome to watch. Love the environmental messages throughout the pier, fabulous conversation starters with kids. We'll be back the next time were in OBX. read more
