Luckily, we knew what we wanted. The overall vibe was upbeat, well lit and great r&b tunes to complement the experience. When it comes to the music choice and volume of music, easy 10/10. We ordered several different things on the menu. The French toast was great, very sweet due to the toppings, which was expected. But good overall. The catfish fillet was crispy and loaded with flavor. Steak and eggs were good, but my friend definitely didn't get full from his meal, so he definitely indulged into the French toast that was left. Our toddler enjoyed his chicken apple sausage and fruit bowl immensely as he cheesed with every bite. The margaritas weren't worth the price. They were premade and heavily concentrated tasting. The espresso martini was a hit though. I highly recommend that. The chef/owner did prowl through the restaurant speaking to the customers, but it seemed very forced. Maybe it had been a long day! Because it was Easter Sunday, we had a larger group than usual (10 people). We were greeted by the staff and seated promptly. I immediately informed our server that I planned to use a Groupon I had purchased previously, and she said that would be fine. Shortly afterward, a manager came over and told us that we could not use the Groupon because our party was larger than five people. She stated this was a policy, but that restriction was not listed anywhere on the Groupon. I went back to review the terms to make sure I had not missed anything, and there was no mention of a party-size limitation. I explained this to the manager and also pointed out that I had recently visited with a party of six and someone in our group was allowed to use the same Groupon without issue. Her response was that it was a new policy. I asked if they could honor the Groupon since the change had not been communicated or updated, but she refused. We asked to speak with Chesa directly, but the manager declined, saying they were too busy--even though the restaurant appeared to be nearly empty at the time. We have overlooked previous issues, including rude service and long wait times, because the food has always been very good. However, after repeatedly giving this restaurant chances and experiencing the same level of poor customer service, we will not be returning. If policies change, they should be clearly communicated and updated wherever customers are expected to see them--especially when customers have already purchased an offer based on the original terms.

Then the chorizo came in with a smoky, slightly spicy flavor that gave every bite some real personality. While the pico de gallo brought a bright, zesty kick that balanced out all the richness from the yolk and sauce. I finally had the chance, and well: If we remove the cheese injection and smoke, we are left with a solid fast-casual burger. It's somewhere above fast food, but below a full-service, sit-down restaurant that even somewhat specializes. What helps the burger stand out, however, is the option for cheese injection and smoke. As a cheese lover, I'm somewhat divided on the cheese. On one hand, if I'm saying no to cheese sauce, something is wrong with me, and you should call the doctor. Then again, an average burger with cheese sauce is just that. The smoke is a slightly different story. It imparts flavor to the burger and seems to be concentrated in the bun more than anything. This adds an interesting, new flavor dimension, but I fear it's not enough to elevate a middle-tier product sufficiently to propel it into greatness. Some rapid-fire notes: Fries: I have no negative notes. These seemed fresh and were both cooked and seasoned well. Prices: They seem to fall in that fast-casual price bracket, but with additions and combos, it starts to add up. Service: I feel for a freshly-made product, the service was appropriately fast. Finally, there's one thing I noticed that I want to point out. I saw an employee grab a bottle of Mrs. Meyers Cleaning Spray, add water to it, and use it to wipe down a table. I don't know what the procedures for sanitizing a table should be, nor can I tell you what actually was or wasn't in the spray bottle. However, it does present the possibility that tables are being wiped down with mostly water. I'm glad I went, for the craving was satisfied. However, mediocre pancakes with great syrup are still mediocre pancakes. With this, while I'm not necessarily against returning at some point, I feel as though my craving and curiosity have been satisfied, and I will not return.
