A delicious Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a Crown Roll (Kaiser)
    Rob P.

One of the best things about living on the north side of New York City are institutions like this. Amazing food and friendly service. It's a market so ambiance isn't a thing. If you need a quick lunch when in Rye, NY this is the place. Old school NY style deli. Very different from the Polish, Greek or Caldian delis of my youth in Detroit. The one minor detail that gives this place a four of five stars is the almost obsessive degree to which they clean their flattop griddle. Much like Billy Goat in Chicago IL, this flat top is scraped and cleaned to an almost jewel like shine. What that means is there is no decades long seasoning that builds on the flattop that lends "griddle scrapple" flavor to the food. Go order a griddle sandwich at Plaza in Greenwich, CT or a Cheese Steak from Donkey's in Camden, NJ to see what I mean. My Bacon Egg and Cheese from Jerry's Post Road was a solid B+/A-. The Crown roll was super fresh, but the onions never got sweet caramelized on that clean griddle the egg was cooked hard and the overall presentation was certainly a little too pretty. Like it was a BEC to be used in a marketing pamphlet. Like looking at a photo of a super model in a picture that's been touched up in photoshop. (I like my super models "real sized" with all the imperfections right out front. ) Will I go here again? Damn straight. Jerry's for life. Strong recommendation

Awesome deli on Post Rd in Rye! When you drive into the parking lot, your olfactory lobes are already assaulted with the aroma of bacon, so you know it's going to be good! These guys & gals really know how to make a sandwich. I ordered the Balboa ($7), which is Roast Beef & Swiss with garlic dressing on a roll and they do it up right by grilling it up on the flat top grill until that Swiss cheese is oozing out. The only problem I have is that they charge an extra $2 if you get it on a wedge. My buddy ordered the Corned Beef Reuben and it looked really good too. I'll have to come back to try all the other sandwiches and the hot food selections. For a flat $7.95 (+tax), you have your choice of what's cooked up for the day, whether it's sausage & peppers, sliced beef brisket, fried fish fillet, mashed potatoes or fried rice and they will fill up the aluminum pan for you. What's even better is that you bring your food to the separate cashiers to pay, so that the people preparing your food (with gloves on) are not the same people handling your dirty cash (unlike some other delis around here with poorly trained food handlers).

Great subs. Murderous lines at lunchtime, but they do their best to move it along. The sandwich menu is gigantic, though if you dont see what you want I'm sure they'll make it for you. So far, I've had the grilled chicken with bacon, spinach and onions and the sausage and peppers and both were quite good. A foot long will set you back about ten bucks. Fair deal considering the size size and quality.

Uncovered a hidden gem a town over from me. Jerry's is a great spot with many selections to choose from no matter your palate. I got the Tuna Salad on Gluten free toast and it was delicious. I also heard great things about their breakfast and salads so I definitely plan on going back soon.

I am a very regular customer of this extremely convenient local establishment, consisting of food store, deli, take out service, lottery sales, and adjoining liquor store. The staff are all very helpful and the store is open long hours from 6am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 6am to 2pm on Sundays. A great local place to food shop. They even have a wide selection of English and Irish food products, including Ribena, if you know what that is!

And you don't have to be a health nut to enjoy these comforts. This is June & Ho. Although there is meat, it's not front-and-center. You're more likely notice Quinoa+veggies, Ratatouille, Wild Rice+veggies, etc. On another side, there are crab and fish cakes, salmon pieces in lemony sauce, grilled chicken cutlets and other proteins. There you have it. So without the foreplay, now let's really get straight to the main act. After reading a June & Ho article in my Westchester Magazine a few years back mentioning their to-die-for Hot Chocolate, all I needed was a visit. When I asked about preparation- all I fixated on was 'imported semi-sweet chocolate chips'. So if you truly are a hot chocolate fiend- winter, spring, summer and fall, this is the move. Service was incredible and patient. Some folks enjoyed light bites up front where there are about 2 small tables. I still find it hard to believe that a place like this will make a rocking hot chocolate! I'm sure there are many places that are qualified to carry the title "World's Best Hot Chocolate"- but June & Ho's is just gangster. It's creamy, oh-soooo-cocoaey and delectable. I don't know the whole secret, but I can tell you the main ingredient is probably love.

We had unsweetened iced teas, and the kids' seltzer came in a kid-sized cup. After ordering, we were served cornbread sticks, which were really good and a hit with my son. Elwood also brought crayons and paper for him, which was a thoughtful touch. We started with the gator nuggets and frickles. The gator nuggets were our favorite appetizer. The frickles were good, but the batter was fairly thick, which made the pickle flavor a little subtle. For my entrée, I had the fried chicken with collard greens and mac and cheese. The chicken was nicely crispy and came with four pieces, though it was a little overcooked for my taste. The collard greens were on the sweet side, and the mac and cheese could have used a bit more flavor. The highlight of our visit was the service. Elwood was friendly, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without being overbearing. Overall, the food was a bit mixed for us, but the excellent service, family-friendly touches, and pleasant outdoor seating made for an enjoyable experience. We'll be back to try some of the other menu items.

The Shrimp & Lobster Mac and cheese was a standout. Loved by all. Chicken Shawarma was fine. Ordered: Crispy artichokes ($15)- these were fried and tasty with a creamy yogurt sauce. Nothing crazy or exotic flavor wise, but enjoyable. Polenta bites ($12)- I really enjoyed these! They were a little salty, a little smoky (bacon) and a little sweet (honey). I will say that I strongly recommend Village Social either update their menu or change the toppings, as these polenta bites were topped with crispy bacon but the menu did not indicate this. Vegetarians in our group didn't realize this dish wasn't vegetarian. Chicken Milanese ($28)- the portion was very generous! It came with a large chicken breast and I requested to change the salad on top to Caesar. I appreciated their willingness to modify the order. All in all, I'd recommend checking out Village Social the next time you're looking for a dinner spot in the area.
