Met up with friends at this clubby Italian steakhouse. Nice decor. The staff were lovely. Sammy, the owner, chatted with us for a while and poured us a splash of grappa at the end of the meal. He is truly committed to his guests having a nice evening. We were started off with some bread and spreads. Cocktails and wine by the glass were very good. The Cesar and wedge salads were on point. The steak and frutti di mare were very good. The branzino was pretty good. I loved the hash browns, but my wife didn't love the seasoning. Desserts were solid. The steak was not inexpensive, but you can order more moderately priced pastas, burger, etc.... The restaurant was packed by the time we left a bit ager 8 pm. Service was dutiful and conscientious although would have been nice for one or two additional stop by. The restaurant was amazing, not your typical steakhouse but classy. Music was subdued and seats comfortable. They brought over a table lamp that was super bright--in a good way. The wedge salad was delicious with tasty hunks of bacon, union crunchies, and plentiful dressing. I'd order this over and over and never grow weary of eating it. My husband took me to Averna this week to celebrate my birthday. It was, by far, the best dining experience we've had since we moved to New York last year. The restaurant is upscale, but cozy and we felt at home here. From the greeting to the goodbye, the service was as amazing as the food. The entire staff made us feel like they really wanted to take care of us; the water glasses always full, attentive, but unobtrusive wait staff and bussers and the owner was a great host to everyone. Hubby had a beautiful ribeye and I had a gorgeous filet mignon; both cooked to medium rare perfection. We ordered maple bacon Brussels sprouts (addictively good), lobster mac & cheese ("OMG" good!) and grilled asparagus for the sides we shared. We started off with the light and delicious filet mignon carpaccio for our appetizer and for dessert we had coffee and split a caramel toffee cake. I'm not a big sweets person, but that cake was flipping amazing and the perfect way to end a birthday. I can't wait for our next visit. I've got my eye on the branzino! read more

We got a Friday evening reservation for a surprise birthday dinner with some friends. While the sea bass was excellent, they should really make the branzino their signature dish. Wow! What a fantastic lunch I had here. They have a wonderful prefix menu for $25.95. First of all, the bread that they give you in the roasted red pepper dipping sauce is outrageous! I started off with the meatballs and my friend got the soup of the day which was a crab corn chowder? The meatballs were served in a cast-iron skillet and were tender and delicious with lots of Barata cheese on top. Yum! Now...that soup was sheer perfection, rich, creamy and served hot, The way it should be. For Entrees, I ordered the beef tenderloin and my friend got the chicken martini. All I can say is Yum! The beef tenderloin was Cooked perfectly to medium rare with a mushroom peppercorn sauce and al dente vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes. So tasty. The chicken martini was pounded flat with a nice egg batter and mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was really done beautifully. We ended the meal with and ice cream dessert and a delicious piece of pie. Our waitress was so friendly and her service was exceptional. We will be back soon! read more

I would give this restaurant 5 stars because the food was absolutely delicious but the room was a single star. We went there on New Year's Eve and they seated us in the section that is probably used in the summer. For whatever reason, they didn't have much heat in there. We were freezing and we ate dinner with our coats on. That section should be closed in the winter. Period. It's just not fair. read more

We had an amazing time. The entire staff was so attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. I had the I believe it's called Fritta de Mare, basically Seafood Linguine and it was fantastic. I ordered the lamb chops and only had one, I was disappointed that I couldn't have another one but we were sharing. Our waitress, Daisy, was so sweet. She gave great advice and she was always available to us. We were celebrating our birthdays (3 out of 6 of us) and they gave us our desserts with candles. The Crème Brûlée cheesecake was delicious! Our daughter and our son in law gave us a gift certificate to Averna and we finally decided to use it! So glad we did. I started with a 1/2 doz. raw oysters, which were so fresh and went really well with a glass of chilled Prosecco. My wife had fresh creamy burrata which was also very fresh. We both had the bone in ribeye. Mine was medium rare which I recommend. It was well seasoned and tender. We ordered the Sautéed Mushrooms and Au Gratin Potatoes for our sides and they were delicious. For desert it was Crème Brûlée for the Mrs. and Tiramisu for me. Yummy! The wait staff was very attentive and very friendly. The music was not too loud and even after the restaurant filled up, the noise level was low to moderate. The décor was modern and everything was clean. I would have given an additional star but the a/c could have been colder and the glass of Brunello I had with my steak suffered as a result of the less than desirable room temp. Wanted to love this place but left disappointed. I'd like to start out by saying the service was great. Drinks were quickly brought out in a matter of minutes. I went on a Friday night, to find the place mostly empty (not sure if that's why the drinks were so quick but later found out that this was an indication of the quality of food). We started with the grilled octopus and beef carpaccio. The octopus was ok but nothing special. I enjoyed the beef carpaccio which was my favorite thing of the night. For entrees we had the seafood squid ink pasta special and the sesame crusted ahi tuna. The pasta special was good, however it was $50. And as you can clearly see in the picture, it consistented of maybe one large bite of pasta and just not enough seafood nor pasta to make it worth the price. The tuna was a weird color, consistency, and flavor and after one bite, I sent it back. I hate sending food back, but for a $40 tuna, it felt justified. This spot could work for grabbing drinks and maybe an app, but I'm sorry to say, don't waste your time or money on dinner. read more

Decided to try this new spot based upon the raving reviews. It was a-ok, but not great. Considering the sky high prices they are charging for Westchester, it should have knocked it out of the park. We got a solid single instead. The night started with a disapproving look from the hostess when seeing we arrived with my 6 year old daughter. Alright, not a great start. The space is oddly laid out and not open at all. Like a converted old house. We ordered the Caesar salad, beef carpaccio, oysters and French onion soup to start. Beef carpaccio was really good and my favorite of the starters. Caesar salad and oysters were standard but the French onion soup was really bland. Like screaming for some salt bland. For the main event we had the rib-eye and the linguine with clams. Fries and mac n' cheese for sides. Steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Pasta was slightly over cooked but the clams were delish. Overall, was okay like I said but was expecting something special. Also, just an FYI, none of the staff were wearing masks and the place feels tight. read more

What happened to my favorite restaurant? I usually get a perfectly grilled ribeye, but this time I took the advice of my waiter, and ordered the Dover Sole. Instead of deboning the fish tableside, I was told that The Busboy would debone it in the kitchen and bring it back to me. What I got was a plate of mangled fish that was full of bones. This guy clearly had never deboned a fish in his entire life, let alone a $70 Dover Sole. The fish was inedible. On my way out, I told the manager/owner, who was very nice and apologetic, but at that point my meal was ruined, and my wallet was drained of $70+ for something that turned out to be garbage. It's too bad that this once-great restaurant has hit rock bottom. I'll never spend another penny there. I'll grab a Filet-O-Fish at the McD's drivethrough the next time I crave perfectly prepared seafood (at least in comparison to Averna). read more

This is such a cozy and chic place to dine at ... the service starting is excellent! The food was so delicious even my kids who are picky eaters loved everything! We had a great time and a great meal at Averna last night. These are seasoned restaurant guys that you will probably recognize if you eat around. For instance, Nino the bartender (and partner) was at a good Italian restaurant in White Plains where he was the best waiter - you always wanted to sit in Nino's section at that place because he knew how to take good care of his clients. So, now these guys opened Averna a few months ago and the place is really nice and the menu is what I referred to as "LOADED"! I wanted it all and I'll be back to try more items but as you read through the menu whether its the veal chop or the chicken or the pork chop or the pastas, I was saying 'wow, that's sounds like it's done the right way' - the menu is LOADED! We celebrated my husband's 80th birthday at Averna last weekend. I cannot say enough about how fantastic we were treated from beginning to end. We had booked the porch as a private room and It was toasty warm in January. Our family ranged in age from six to eighty, and in spite of it being a very busy night for the restaurant, the waiter Raffa and the owner made each of us feel like royalty. The food was wonderful, from steak, pastas, pork chops to burgers and even the kids said it was their new favorite restaurant. I think it's taken awhile for Averna to catch on with the locals but the place is buzzing now. The reasons are simple-the food and drink are excellent, the service professional and the ambiance comfortable. The drinks are consistently well made. Service is friendly. Meals are well paced and everything is delicious. Standouts include any of the steaks, the calamari appetizer and the fish entrees. Each night they have a few specials to keep things interesting. Really the only things not so great about Averna are the prices, which while high, don't seem unreasonable for the quality and the main dining area is a bit cramped. Despite those comments I really can't recommend this place enough. read more
