Perhaps the best "old school" deli in Westchester County. Nothing fancy here -- just great food served by pros who take pride in being the best sandwich shop in the area. I recently ordered a prosciutto and salami with fresh mozzarella, and both hot and sweet peppers. My mind was blown from the first bite to the last. Close your eyes and you're biting into a sammy from the glory days of Author Avenue in the Bronx or Little Italy in Manhattan. This place is a treasure. M&R -- Don't ever change. read more

I grew up in Northern NJ getting my lunch at places like this - delis with seemingly endless choices in the case, special creations advertised on print-outs taped to the wall, and a steam table of italian entrees. I'll sound old here but places like M&R are slowly disappearing along with the working class they serve. I have an appointment I have to attend in Mount Kisco every week and happened to drive by here on the way to the highway back to Stamford (an old-school deli albatross). Decided to grab something and was immediately struck by how much it looked like something out of my nostalgic dreams, right down to the wood paneling and drop ceiling. Refreshingly, there's no "follow us on Instagram/#meaaaaats" signs up either. Of the 10 or so people who came in while I was there, 4 were addressed by name right away. There are places I ate at every week in nyc for 4 years who didn't know my name. The food itself was great (get the #4!) and I've already got a running list of others to try. And on a side note, while I don't eat a ton of red meat it was nice to see their pastrami pulled from a steam table instead of a Thumanns wrapper. While I'd be surprised if they're doing the whole process in house (for those who've never tried it, making pastrami in house is more laborious than child birth), it's not treated like mass produced slop - and it didn't taste like it either. My counterman also insisted I get my rye bread toasted. Seriously, I can't remember the last time a counterman did that. Five damn stars. read more

I can't say enough good things about the M&R Deli. We were traveling to Boston from Philly and researched a place to stop for lunch on yelp. My wife wanted a good deli and boy did we find one - very easily accessible via the parkway! My wife was hesitant at first and wanted a taste of the cornbeef. The staff gladly provided a sample. It was by far the best cornbeef she has had - flavorful, hot and tender. She had a hot cornbeef sandwich and I split the Ruben with my son. It was one of the best rubens I ever had - putting both cornbeef and pastrami on rye. The staff was very friendly and made us feel as we've been friends for years. I would highly recommend the M&R Deli if you are ever in the area. We will be back!! read more

Fantastic. I worked my way through high school and college at a NY style deli so much like this one. People outside NY don't get it. Specialty sandwiches, 50 different salad trays with everything from potato salad to veal park to whatever you want to eat for dinner in a 2 pound container. Thats FIFTY different types I of home made, delicious, well crafted foods. Whatever in the mood for, a deli like this will have it, or something close. Linden cookies, cold YooHoo, and guys saying "bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll, salt pepper ketchup" like it's one word. I never knew why gems like this don't exist outside the 5 boroughs. read more

three words for you! Thai Chicken Wrap........ You must try this wrap it is deliciosu and scrumtious. The owner of this deli is very friendly. I upped my review from a 4 to 5 based on this wrap and the Asian inspired terriyaki chicken pot stickers are delicious its a must try! Looks like I found one of the better Deli's in the 914. It is very good I ordered nothing elaborant just a simple Ham sammich with lettuce and tomato. The ham was nicely cut and very fresh along with the lettuce and tomato. I will try more of their daily specialty sammiches in the future.Keep on doling out great sammiches!! read more

Was looking for a close place by Northern Westchester hospital and found this gem. Got a chicken parm on a roll and it was so good! The chocolate chip cookies are to die for as well, I wish I bought a couple more! Staff was super nice and I love the mom & pop feel to the place, the music definitely fit the scene. If you are from New York City or Long Island you probably agree with me that most delis are horrible in Westchester. But this place is the exception. This is my all-time favorite deli. I'll even go so far as to say that Rocky's (Millwood), with its cult following, can't even come close. I spent much of my teen years waking up at what (at the time) seemed like an ungodly hour to drive to Kisco to get M&R before the grill closed. They have a wide variety of all the regular staples that you can find at pretty much any area deli, but over the years they have improved their offerings by adding a somewhat gourmet twist. The staff has always been friendly, the product is consistent, and the space is clean. And then there is the shining star of M&R, the egg sandwich, which is so good that whenever I go home I can't bear to get anything else. If you're looking to order it, it's double-egg-potato-mozzarella-salt-pepper-ketchup (meat eaters: insert bacon here). I've been eating this sandwich for almost fifteen years and have never had a bad one. The eggs are beaten and cooked flat on the griddle before being folded into sandwich size; they are always light and never rubbery or overcooked. The hash brown patty has a lovely crispness to it. An indecent number of mozzarella slices melted on top ooze stringy goodness everywhere, binding the sandwich together (and often also attaching it to the paper it's wrapped in, if it's not opened right away). The kaiser rolls are always perfectly fresh, crusty on the outside and pillowy on the inside. I only lament that they close their grill at noon. Try it, you'll never want to eat anything else. read more

The deli has become a favorite spot of mine. I have actually been going here since my oldest child was a baby, 20 years ago but I was reserved. When I started coming back due in part because it is near my job I let my real personality come out and thoroughly enjoy kidding with all the staff. Like going to your neighborhood bar. Everybody knows your name indeed!!!! Matt is especially sweet and funny and Ray, Joe and Carol are all good people. I love that they know your likes and mention your favorite food when you come in. Usually pretty darn good and a good sandwich for your money (and you will pay plenty). tuesday s.o.d can be great but once in a while roast beast is tough or sliced too thick. My major complaint : I called in an order and asked to get my egg thoroughly scrambled and not overcooked, What I got was SNIDE COMMENT and when i opened my sandwich i got a scrambled egg that was 1/2 white and 1/2 yellow and of course overcooked (someone picked it up for me or would have opened it at the counter and given it back). if they just gave me what i asked for , imagine that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I've loved M&R Deli for over thirty years! I was born in Mt. Kisco but grew up in Pittsburgh, then lived in Chicago, and now live in Indianapolis. When I was a kid, I remember going to Mass at St. Francis of Assisi just up the street (where my parents were married and then had their funeral services) when we were visiting family in the area and then later going to M&R Deli with my dad to bring a carryout lunch up to the street to my grandparent's house on E. Hyatt Avenue, right off the main drag. O.K.... I digress (great memories, though). Anyhow, whenever I'm in Mt. Kisco (which on average is every couple of years), I still like to have a sit-down lunch in town, and M&R Deli is always where I go. Even after thirty-plus years, I always get the Chicken Parmesan Hero... it's a handful but is very, very delicious. There are plenty of other sandwich/hero selections on the menu, along with a variety of salads, so you're sure to find something that will hit the spot. The store also features plenty of sodas, beers, and chips and all of the N.Y. tabloid newspapers (always a must for me as I can't eat without reading). It's a great place for either a sit down lunch or for carryout (I've gone both routes over the years). If you work in Mt. Kisco and looking for a place to grab lunch, or if you're just passing through town, check out M&R Deli. The food, service, and character of the place is great. As many years as I've lived in the Midwest, I've never been able to find anything locally that matches it, which is probably the main reason I always wind up eating lunch there even after all these years. read more

I watched the guy make my sandwich with NO gloves today. One hand picking up chicken cutlets, the other holding the bottom of the bun and then using his thumb to touch the chicken cutlet. I thought to say something, but if you tell anything to these ppl, they catch an attitude quick. So I paid $8 for a bacteria ridden sandwich Bc I was starving and tried to get over it until I opened it to eat and there was barely any mozzarella or roasted red pepper and it was COLD and tasteless! They didn't even bother to warm it at all-careless. Bottom line- these ppl have forgotten that customers are doing them a favor by choosing their deli. They operate with the notion they're doing us a favor by serving us their below average, overpriced food. Last time I went, I asked for a roll with no seeds about 10 seconds after I ordered & the guy with the white facial hair rolled his eyes at me, grunted and complained saying he already cut the roll he chose in half- am I supposed to care when I'm paying them my hard earned money that they are upset with how I want my food??!! I hope they go out of business asap- they suck. read more
