We told the kind man at the register that it was our first visit, and he was so helpful and explained the menu to us. He took our order and another person brought our order to us. We got there right before the lunch crowd and were concerned that our meal was taking a while to get to us. It took about 15 minutes for us to get our food and all was forgiven because they evidently cook their proteins to order. Our southern original chicken (they offer three flavors) came piping hot! The chicken was the best we've ever had anywhere. It was flavored throughout, from the crispy crust to the super tender chicken inside. The chicken thigh was almost the size of my small hand and I could not finish it. The mashed potatoes were delicious and the fried biscuits were out of this world! My only complaint was that the gumbo side we ordered was salty. I took it to the cashier and he immediately had it replaced with a knock your socks off fried okra. We both had iced tea, and agreed that it tasted freshly made. Everything tasted fresh!! Now this is what I call good southern cooking! This was our first visit to Redbird, but it won't be our last. It also doesn't hurt that there's a Cafe Du Monde next door, but that's another great review.
